The British polymath Peter Russell is credited with coining global brain in 1982, as a meme, perhaps in imitation of the famous World Brain that the British social reformer H. G. Wells eloquently advocated since 1938.

[edit]The TM Technique: A Skeptics Guide
Part One introduces Transcendental Meditation, its origins; how it works -producing a state of profound rest, exactly opposite to the accumulation of stress and tension; and its implications for health, clarity of mind and creativity. The second part looks at the higher states of consciousness to which TM can lead. Part Three considers the implication for society as a whole.

[edit]The Upanishads: A New Translation
A new translation with Alistair Shearer of selections from the nine principal Upanishads -- one of the cornerstones of Indian philosophy. Passed down by word of mouth for five thousand years, they teach of an absolute and unified field of intelligence that underlies and permeates all creation. This divine ground is our own nature, and to bring our lives into conscious harmony with it is the ultimate purpose of human existence. The Upanishads make the mind soar and the heart sing, and point the soul to freedom.

[edit]- The Brain Book
"Within our heads lies one of the most complex systems in the known universe..." This handbook for brain users sets out the brain's structure and development; examines its function and potential, discussing memory, imagery, mnemonics, the holographic theory of mind, reading and note-taking. Of special interest to anyone wishing to expand their appreciation of the brain, and a great help for improving reading and study skills.
Originally published in UK as The Awakening Earth
In The Global Brain Peter Russell shows that humanity has reached a crossroads in its evolutionary path. The Internet is linking humanity into one, worldwide community - a "global brain". This, combined with a rapidly growing spiritual awakening, is creating a collective consciousness that is humanity's only hope of saving itself from itself. However, Russell warns if we continue on our current path of greed and destruction, humanity will become a planetary cancer.
Selling more than 100,000 copies and translated into ten languages, his seminal work, The Global Brain, won acclaim from forward thinkers worldwide. It was regarded by many as years ahead of its time, and its original predictions about the impact of computer networks and changing social values are now being realized.
Peter Russell, who holds advanced degrees in theoretical physics, experimental psychology and computer science, makes no apologies for presenting what may seem like a Utopian theory. He advises, "The image a society has of itself can play a crucial role in the shaping of its future. A positive vision is like the light at the end of the tunnel, which, even though dimly glimpsed, encourages us to step in that direction".
- "A fascinating vision of how the information revolution is shifting consciousness. A much needed, optimistic perspective on humanity's future." -- Ted Turner

[edit]- The Consciousness Revolution (with Ervin Laszlo and Stanislav Grof)
The three authors consider the roles of art, science, education, goals and values, world views, religion, spirituality and, above all, consciousness - for the state of our consciousness is the key issue underlying virtually all others.
"An extraordinary discussion among three of the very finest minds of our time, spirited in its exchange, compassionate in its embrace, brilliant in its clarion call to awaken conscience and consciousness" -- Ken Wilber

[edit]- From Science to God: A Physicist's Journey into the Mystery of Consciousness
From Science to God is the story of Peter Russell’s lifelong exploration into the nature of consciousness. Blending physics, psychology, and philosophy, he leads us to a new worldview in which consciousness is as fundamental to the cosmos as space, time, and matter. Integrating a deep knowledge of science with his own experiences of meditation, Russell arrives at a universe similar to that described by many mystics -- one in which science and spirit no longer conflict. The bridge between them, he shows, is light. From Science to God invites us to cross that bridge to a radically different, and ultimately healing, view of ourselves and the universe -- one in which God takes on new meaning, and spiritual practice a deeper significance.
