Neon pop [1][2] is a subgenre of pop punk.

Characteristics

[edit]

Neon pop has been previously described the more vibrant version of pop punk.

History

[edit]

Predecessors Neon pop is greatly influenced by punk and pop punk bands. Bands ranging from Blink 182 , New Found Glory and Simple Plan are those that set the blueprints of pop punk and eventually lead to bands branching off into neon pop. All Time Low were one of the bands with the boldest statement, when they emerged with their big hooks and even bigger harmonies. All Time Low helped pave the way with the debut with Hopeless Records, releasing their EP Put Up Or Shut Up . Many bands soon followed in their footsteps such as Cute Is What We Aim For and The Maine . It wasn't just the music that made neon pop, but the arrival of color into the dark scene of punk music. Glamous Kills made its mark in this music scene as bands began to wear the brand's clothing and even collaborate with Glamour Kills in creating new clothing lines. The vibrant colors from the clothes musicians began wearing shifted the scene of what was once Emo Pop Punk to this new concept of neon pop punk.

Origins

[edit]

Predecessors Neon pop began around 2006 - 2007. Bands like All Time Low , Cute Is What We Aim For , and The Maine got involved in this new scene, attracting more bands as the music style began to reach a larger audience. It was The Maine's album [ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Can%27t_Stop,_Won%27t_Stop_(album) Can't Stop Won't Stop ] that caught the attention of new listeners with there catchy pop vocals alongside the guitar riffs [1]

Today's Bands

From 2007 to now, neon pop is still kicking. The predecessors have moved on to the more predominant scene of pop punk , but there are still bands today keeping neon pop alive.
