My talk
[edit]I read your post. I'm not planning to block this IP just for editing my talk page, nor to grave dance. Despite reverting, I do appreciate your perspective, and I think you make some worthwhile points that Jimbo brought up at Wikipedia talk:Ignore all rules/Archive 1. But if you wish to leave the project, I would like to respect that choice, and allowing you to join project-internal discussions is counter-productive to that. If anything, it will make it harder for you to return in the future (which I would support under the right circumstances). I hope you keep well. — Wug·a·po·des 22:04, 5 March 2021 (UTC)
- Wugapodes, I would take you a little more seriously if a) you hadn’t deleted it; and b) left the edit summary “sad”. I’ve edited WP since 2006 (as an IP for many years before registering the SchroCat account). When someone who had been present on WP for 15 years and has over a hundred featured articles/list/pictures to their name raises what is a problem that has driven several editors away from the project is it really advisable to brush it all under the carpet with the summary “sad”? WP used to have standards, it they seem to be collapsing nowadays, and this is just another example of someone in a position of power ignoring a much, much bigger problem than one editor ignoring a rather silly and one-sided block.
- I have no desire to return as a named editor, but I will continue as an IP. WP is not a cult that people cannot leave unless they cease all connections. That’s completely against the ethos of the project I joined. I started as an IP and I’ll finish as an IP. SC. 2A01:4C8:481:EFBD:6188:B7B9:44C0:8C29 (talk) 22:30, 5 March 2021 (UTC)
- As you said, you started 15 years ago. Things change; you, sadly, did not. You made clear your intent to leave the project, going so far as to exercise your right to vanish. I believe in a strong right to leave, especially when a community has changed in a way that you no longer agree with---you should have every right to disavow us, and you tried to. For whatever personal reasons, you seem incapable of resisting the urge to engage in a project whose direction you not only disagree with, but which causes you to lash out at others on the talk page of someone who doesn't even know you (if we've interacted before, I certainly don't remember it). That is sad. For myself, I've consistently advocated an WP:IAR approach to indefinitely blocked editors who are discovered to be constructively contributing as IPs. If you can do so, fine. In fact, if you do it well no one will know and we all win. But you asked to leave, and you asked to disavow your association with us, so if you wish to now be a nuisance do not be surprised when people kick you back out. That is not us being a cult, that is you being a child. Perhaps I will unwittingly see you around. — Wug·a·po·des 23:04, 5 March 2021 (UTC)
- Wow, you’ve managed to entirely miss the point of what I was saying, accused me of not being able to change (when, as you’ve clearly said, you don’t know me, don’t know my approach, and have absolutely zero clue about what I think or how I approach this place), and you’ve managed to throw in an insult too. Brilliant. I can see why you’re the cream of the admin cadre. And just for the record, I’m not indefinitely blocked. I was right to question your knee-jerk revert and use of “sad”: it speaks volumes of your approach to editors and your use of the petty powers you have. I look forward to seeing you being hauled to ArbCom at some point. 213.205.194.38 (talk) 23:19, 5 March 2021 (UTC)

[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, please note that there is a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Deviating from this style, as you did in Doggerland, disturbs uniformity among articles and may cause readability or accessibility problems. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Curbon7 (talk) 08:51, 31 March 2022 (UTC)

- In the future, if you wish to update a latest version of software or any other information with a reliable source, you can do so without adding your personal commentary to the change. If it's not obvious to you why such commentary isn't appropriate, you shouldn't be editing Wikipedia. OhNoitsJamie Talk 21:33, 9 May 2022 (UTC)
This is the discussion page for an IP user, identified by the user's IP address. Many IP addresses change periodically, and are often shared by several users. If you are an IP user, you may create an account or log in to avoid future confusion with other IP users. Registering also hides your IP address. |
