User:220 of Borg/Template:Not here/doc

Hi! Just a quick note: I disabled the {{Documentation subpage}} header at User:220 of Borg/Template:Not here/doc because it looks like you were making a draft of a template subpage there, not an official one. Enterprisey (talk!) 23:27, 9 September 2016 (UTC)

Enterprisey That's exactly correct. I presume it appeared in a category it shouldn't have been in?

Correct! Yeah, it was in a cleanup category (doc pages without associated templates), and I'm trying to burn down some of the less-visible backlogs right now. (Nice BASIC code.) Enterprisey (talk!) 06:00, 10 September 2016 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Terrorism in Australia, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Minto. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. When using certain templates (such as welcome templates and user warnings) on talk pages, as you did to User talk:EelamStyleZ, don't forget to substitute with text by adding subst: to the template tag. For example, use {{subst:uw-test1}} instead of {{uw-test1}}. This reduces server load and prevents accidental blanking of the template. Whenever possible, use Twinkle; it will always substitute templates for you. It would be much appreciated! Regards, <<< SOME GADGET GEEK >>> (talk) 15:56, 29 September 2016 (UTC)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Vrunda Gadesha requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Drm310 (talk) 14:39, 7 October 2016 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Jay Prakash

Hello 220 of Borg,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Jay Prakash for deletion, because it seems to be inappropriate for a variety of reasons.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. UNSC Luke 1021 (talk) 21:02, 7 October 2016 (UTC)

@UNSC Luke 1021: Funnily enough, I nominated that page for deletion too, as I moved the original, apparently autobiographical, page to the actual creators' user page at User:Jaiprakashji. The same thing occurred just ↑ above when I didn't CSD nominate the redirect after moving another inappropriate page (Vrunda Gadesha) to the creators userpage User:Vrunda Gadesha. No good deed goes'unpunished'. 220 of Borg 04:34, 8 October 2016 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Henning Dyngvold, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Norwegian. good for you

I somehow got involved in Wang Sicong and in the process noticed that you are the only editor who offered a hand to User_talk:Zhanglei123456. I am sure he is misguided/ill equipped rather than ill-intentioned. Most of the other editors on his talk page have been concerned with attacking him and getting his pages deleted, or running meaningless SPI's. So just a note to say "Good on you".104.163.141.133 (talk) 12:08, 18 October 2016 (UTC)
(exclamation mark  Link to Wang Sicong corrected. 220 of Borg 14:06, 18 October 2016 (UTC))

Why thank you 104.163.141.133 (talk · contribs). A while since I've got any 'kudos' on my talk page. (I have had a few 'thanks for edits', but they don't show up here.) If you had an account you could have given me a barnstar. (though I suppose that can be done manually too). Not trying to 'butter me up' are you?
The two messages I left, suggesting creating drafts, and reminding them to sign their talk-page posts, are just templates, which I think you know.
I see that the 'Wang' page is looking much better than it was, apparently largely thanks to you? It was deleted twice, but then it appeared largely to be: "His dads a billionaire, he has a shitload of money that he spends in casinos", which isn't particularly notable. When an editor seem so 'desperate' to get a page up, it start looking suspicious, and for good reason, going by my own experience with COI editors. This is why they were queried about possible paid editing.
Oh dear, I'll be surprised if you're a sock-puppet. Your English seem better than Zhanglei123456s'.
How's the weather in Canada at the moment? (Doesn't look that different to here actually) Regards, 220 of Borg 14:06, 18 October 2016 (UTC)

Hey 220, Just wanted to say thanks for your replies and explanations on the Thunder River Rapids Ride talk page. Want to help test advanced new tools planned for Recent Changes?

Hi 220 of Borg! I’m reaching out to you because our logs tell us you’re an active Twinkle new user welcomer. The WMF Collaboration team is working on new tools that we hope will be useful to people engaged in reviewing recent changes, fighting vandalism or supporting new users. We want to test them for usability with editors who are experienced with relevant wiki work. If you’re interested in helping to shape this new technology—we’d like to hear from you.

The testing should take about an hour, will be conducted online, and will take place during the next few weeks. To participate, please email dchen[at]wikimedia.org with the subject line Twinkle Welcomer. Include the following information:

  • Username
  • Email where we can reach you
  • Your city or time zone
  • Best time to talk to you
  • Your primary use(s) of Twinkle or Recent Changes (e.g., reviewing recent changes, reviewing with a particular focus (specify), anti-vandalism, new-page review, welcoming new users, etc.)

Thanks! Dchen (WMF) (talk) 20:48, 31 October 2016 (UTC)

November 2016

Hi and thanks for message; understood and appreciated. Possible reason for 12 reverts in 5 min would be that I don't know how to undo more than one revision at a time? :-) and those revisions were unbearably sloppy in their spelling and use of apostrophes and other grammatical doo-dads. Also the talk page seems to show that the edits I reverted were made by an IP address, not, if I understand it correctly, a registered user - is that right? Sophoife (talk) 14:43, 3 November 2016 (UTC)

@Sophoife: Yes the edits were from an IP address, but the 3RR rules still apply. IP editors have the tight to edit any page, unless it is WP:protected. See Wikipedia:IPs are human too. Reverting of WP:vandalism is, if I recall correctly, not subject to 3RR, but I don't think that was the case. WP:Assume good faith. A 'bad' sloppy edit doesn't necessarily it vandalism. If they keep restoring it after being advised against it, then it's WP:disruptive.
Very roughly, If you want to revert multiple edits, in the revision history you select the first edit by clicking on the left little round 'button', the last edit with the right 'button, then click on, Compare selected revisions. Then select (Undo) (above the right hand version). See Help:Reverting. 220 of Borg 16:21, 3 November 2016 (UTC)

Demonitization

Dear 220 of the borg,

I thought that the cheering crowds in Belgaum can be part of the reactions. If you have seen the video of the event. He specifically asks if people support his decision. In a way it is a referendum on his decision. This does reflect the opinion of the masses. He was not talking at a political rally, its a gathering of students. However, as you feel that its is political, could you kind point me to the correct wiki guideline that prohibits "political reactions" to be included under the "Reactions" heading? If your concern is with wording alone, i request you to amend the wording accordingly.

If you include the reactions on twitter and blogs but exclude reaction of the common man, it will lead to a elitist bias.

removal of content from kasthamandap

Why did you remove my content from kasthamandap. It was from the national news agency. It was sourced from facts. Sion school (talk) 04:38, 18 November 2016 (UTC)

Sion school, please see my WP:Edit summary. If "...from the national news agency" is so then, you should be able to provide a source. Even so, it was almost impossible to understand, so needs re-writing if it is re-added with a wp:reliable source. Please see Help:Referencing for beginners and WP:Verifiability. ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!

Hi, you have told me you have removed a link, i was wondering which link it was and for what reason

thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by BangladeshJourn (talkcontribs) 23:34, 2 January 2017 (UTC)

BangladeshJourn, if I remove a link it is often because it is an external link (off Wikipdia) 'embedded' in the text, which is generally not allowed. Often such links are basically 'promotional', as they add nothing to the article (See also WP:ELNO) Where possible I will convert the link to a reference. Sometimes every instance of a related page is wikilinked, which is unnecessary and discouraged. 'Wiki' linking of common terms is also unnecessary and discouraged.
• For example here among other edits, I removed an embedded external link to 'Golapganj Helping Hands (UK)', which was linked to http://ghhuk.org/about-us, and made it into a very basic reference.220 of Borg 00:25, 3 January 2017 (UTC)

Please note the WP:BLP policy: "Contentious material about living persons (or, in some cases, recently deceased) that is unsourced or poorly sourced—whether the material is negative, positive, neutral, or just questionable—should be removed immediately and without waiting for discussion." The material you added to Talk:Identity Evropa and Talk:2017 Berkeley protests was potentially defamatory, and so I've suppressed it. You also seem to have added information about this person's identity that potentially constitutes doxxing. Do not re-add it without a much more reliable source to support the claims. A page you created has been nominated for deletion as an attack page, according to section G10 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

Do not create pages that attack, threaten, or disparage their subject or any other entity. Attack pages and files are not tolerated by Wikipedia, and users who create or add such material may be blocked from editing. Grayfell (talk) 06:41, 23 April 2017 (UTC)

You might have stated that it was Moldylocks a redirect. I'm sure a source can be found for that nickname. Ah, here's one. [1], though i dont know if it WP:RS.
I do though take offence that you accuse me of creating an 'attack page'. 220 of Borg 06:53, 23 April 2017 (UTC)
No, I don't think that actually establishes justification for the redirect. As it's pejorative, I doubt it would pass BLP in any event. Dlohcierekim 08:32, 23 April 2017 (UTC)
Dlohcierekim Thanks for the input. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I'd get accused of creating an attack page, let alone for a redirect! 220 of Borg 04:53, 24 April 2017 (UTC)
I know what your mean. It's just we're pretty tetchy about perception with BLP's. In the past, there have been threats of lawsuits. At least one editor was sued for liable, after using material from a major news source in Britain, so if we are to err, it will be on the side of over caution. Thank you, I am sorry you have been easily mistakened, I am in the learning phase and improving my articles. The points that you wrote are more valid in describing Abrahmad111 than me. I will keep honoring what you said but invite you to read and research Abrahmad111 as well, and post the same message on his talk page as you have posted on mine. SubhashiniIyer (talk)

Hi, you have put a whole set of wiki help for me on my talk page, so I ask you for help. I have a question. Abrahmad111 is constantly fooling and undoing and removing much older and antique (The Indian Antiquary) research references in order to attribute a poet to his region rather than sticking to the history. I have kept his references (which are mostly a thesis and individual writings unlike The Indian Antiquary) and only removed his unreferenced personal theories but he has been removing all my referenced info to put forth only his theories. Now he removed my content and writes one has to stick to the old style. This fellow creates duplicate pages and vandalizes pages to put forth his theories. He is not able to bear if I keep the theories in chronological order and removes the old theories which do not attribute the work or the poet to his homeplace. Unlike him I am trying to keep both theories but he keeps the newer theories and adds his personal theories as well. What do you advise? I am going to wait for your advise. Thanks SubhashiniIyer (talk) 11:54, 7 July 2017 (UTC)

When is a conviction recorded - on verdict or on sentencing?

Thanks for your edits to the Murder of Michael McGurk, in particular this edit that removed the comments that a conviction against Ron Medich is currently pending. A jury has found Medich guilty of ordering the murder of McGurk and guilty of intimidating McGurk's wife. However, at the time of writing, no conviction has been recorded for either charge. Conviction (or the Judge's decision to not record a conviction (unlikely)) is not made by the outcome of a jury verdict. The judge receives submissions from the prosecution and defence and then makes a decision. While it is highly likely that a conviction will be recorded against Medich and he will be sentenced accordingly, it is inappropriate to record a conviction at this point in time. Hi, I'm CoolSkittle. I noticed you created a userspace draft some time ago at User:220 of Borg/Engelandvaarder, which seems to be abandoned. Do you plan to develop this? CoolSkittle (talk) 19:50, 16 February 2019 (UTC)

That page is IIRC a Google translation of a page from the Dutch Wikipedia. I don't think I am interested in working on it further. If you think it's worthy of 'publishing' and wish to bring it up to scratch first feel free to do so, or
If you think it should be deleted it's OK with me.

Gidday 'Mrs Drover', (Am I still allowed to say that? 🙄)

Could you check my edit here please?
I may well have got the various 'Juvenile Justice places' confused as the one I set to "was" (Frank Baxter Juvenile Justice Centre) seems to be open still? 🤔
Regards, 220 of Borg 05:00, 23 February 2020 (UTC)

Oooh, good catch. The entries based on the NSWSHR are sometimes not the best on very recent events because the register content is sometimes dated, and often if they've got good recent coverage it's because I wrote it independently. I can only assume that the closure of the remaining detention centre (the source actually cited says that it "will close", not that it has) either didn't actually take place, or me and someone else got the wrong end of the stick and the Kariong Juvenile Correctional Centre wasn't the same thing as the Frank Baxter one (this seems to be a particularly confusing site in general because of ill-documented overlapping notable places). The former Mount Penang centre site seems to be very large and the subject of a large redevelopment, and the Frank Baxter site seems to be a subsection of that, so I think it'd be really helpful to actually have an article on the Frank Baxter one, not least because from a Google search it seems like some stuff has gone down in relation to that. It'd also clarify what, if anything, happened to the planned or otherwise closure in 2015. Don't suppose you've got the energy to give writing it a shot? @The Drover's Wife: I wasn't sure if I altered the right place? From google here it appears 'Kariong' and 'Frank Baxter' (who??) are different establishments nearby each other in Gosford.
There is a list on the Corrective Services (I assume) website that details all the 'correctional' centers. I'll try to find it again.
Not so into writing at the moment, esp. in areas I'm not familiar with. (jails! 🙄)
This particular 'Frank Baxter' should be notable enough for a BLP (or section on the Centre's page) if he has a prison named after him?
Unless he was a notable criminal? 'Squizzy Taylor Correctional Centre'? 'Chopper' Read Juvenile Justice Centre'? Probably not!

Polskiwielbiciel re Trump

Dear 220 of Borg,

I hope this is the correct place to reply to the message you sent me. Before participating as an editor I wanted to do a little research about possible political bias at Wikipedia, so I posted small edits on the most controversial topic I could find, with some of my edits favoring a Democrat point of view and others the Republican. I am pleased that these edits have been removed, although there is a hint of bias remaining in the sentence that currently reads: "The outbreak may have a negative impact on Donald Trump's chances of re-election in the 2020 presidential election.[624]" since a version of this sentence that I tested, i.e.: "The outbreak may not have a negative impact...etc." was edited back to the current one.

Following Wikipedia's published editorial standards, I think either version is unacceptable, because either version is speculative and not in accordance with Wikipedia's admonishment to use past tense only.

Sincerely, David LeightonPolskiwielbiciel (talk) 13:18, 22 March 2020 (UTC)Polskiwielbiciel

PS: I hope I am signing this correctly.

Toilet paper epidemic - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 06:09, 20 March 2020 (UTC)
It's getting beyond potty jokes. A local council had the toilet paper in all its council buildings, pools, sports centres etc stolen! (Clarification: Their weekly usage went from 1,200 to 1,600 rolls, so about 400 rolls went 'missing' in a week.) There are reports of organised gangs going from supermarket to supermarket buying up all the toilet paper, paper towels and serviettes! People are being assaulted and robbed for their toilet paper. 220 of Borg 06:24, 20 March 2020 (UTC)

Yeh, while I still can. In Oztralia we are moving towards total COVID isolation. I don't think going into town to use the local councils' free outdoor WiFi will be a 'lawful excuse' to be out of home!
I had trouble editing WP yesterday, though could be local issue, or whole Internet is slowing down. When I tried to preview I was getting 'Cannot contact website' or similar. Seems OK now though. 🤔 220 of Borg 04:01, 31 March 2020 (UTC)

Hi - I just declined your CSD at Farida Khambata - most of the text seemed to be copyvio, but it looked like the lead was clean, unless I've missed something, so I removed the copyvio and RD1ed the previous revisions - please let me know if you think I've missed anything. There's no reason not to send to AfD if you think the subject isn't notable - I'm concerned that so many of the sources are affiliated to her, so I've tagged it, but some of the links in the article look like they might be usable as sources - I'm going to leave it for another reviewer to give it another opinion. Thank you (COVID-19 Australia)

I would just like to thank you for the sheer amount of work and effort that you are putting into the article (alongside me, of course :) ). Let this be the de facto talk page for the article?

I want to run any conflicts in the editing, directly with you. We wouldn't want any edit wars lmao. Your previous edit which reformatted some stuff was great! I do have a _few_ niggles tho, I apologise for my fussiness.

1. I think we should have past tense in the "as defined by NSW Gov, include(d/s)...". This is because the definition may change in the future, and although this is an ongoing pandemic it will become history soon.

2. Adding A to $200 seems a bit unnecessary in my opinion, especially because this is an Australia-only article.

Everything else was perfect; i'll also add to the bullet point so there isnt a lone bullet point.

Sorry for my pickiness; I just don't want any edit wars, just constructive criticism.

JMonkey2006 (talk) 06:30, 6 January 2021 (UTC)

@JMonkey2006: Thanks for the thanks. Specific issues regarding the page are best talked about on the articles talkpage though. This allows other editors to chime in too.
As for the A$, have you ever bought something, from an international website perhaps? I have, and found out later I purchased in US$, not A$. So dollars aren't dollars. Cost me about 40% more than I expected. In Japan once my fellow travellers IIRC bought some pearls, then I piped up and said, "Are you sure the price is in Ozzie dollars?" Faces fell. :-( Nope, US dollars.

@Graham87:
Hi, now I'm wondering how I ended up on that IPs talkpage. Perhaps I just noticed somewhere their failure to use edit summaries, an issue I am becoming concerned about.

I have come across numerous editors, some who've been editing for years, some with like 10,000+ edits who simply do not bother to use edit summaries, any edit summaries. Possibly even an Admin? It's a bit of an epidemic, (or pandemic?) of failure to explain edits. It seems to have gotten more common over the last ten years.

• Is it possibly that edit summaries tend to give away sockpuppets and banned editors evading their bans? So they don't give a summary to cover up their past?

I came across a non-summarising editor whose first edit was adding a category, which doesn't seem like something a new editor would do. Makes me suspicious, plus they were editing a page whose creator had been banned, and IIRC also didn't use edit summaries. Same one, with ~ 2,000 edits has made exactly 2 talkpage comments. Strange, to me.

Then again, I edited from a fixed IP address for my first 2 years on WP, so was very experienced when I created this account.
Never accused of being a sock or questioned about my experience, but then other editors, even an Admin knew I going 'legit', as I was on the Unwired wireless network, then they shut down! Goodbye static IP. :-(
220 of ßorg 11:45, 9 March 2021 (UTC)

Oh there have always been very prolific editors who failed to use edit summaries. I personally prefer them but I'm not usually concerned about other editors' behaviour in this regard. Graham87 12:09, 9 March 2021 (UTC)
I think I've come across a few editors who were making really poor edits, like garbled English and 'flowery' language, who were reverting me when I corrected the text, without any explanation.
Chagai-I Pakistan's first nuclear bomb test, was a classic case IIRC. 220 of ßorg 12:21, 9 March 2021 (UTC)

VITT, HIT and TTP

I am a bit puzzled by this edit summary where you seem to imply that heparin-induced thrombocytopenia and thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura are the same thing. In reality, VITT has parallels with HIT (except the lack of heparin exposure) whereas TTP is a separate condition that forms part of the thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA) spectrum. JFW | T@lk 08:32, 7 May 2021 (UTC)

@Jfdwolff: I created the redirect Thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome (TTS) to avoid linking separately, like this, "thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome", before I knew about the Post-vaccination embolic and thrombotic events, page which as far as I know is 'related' to TTS, hence my summary comment.
• I'm not a medical practitioner so the conditions mentioned here are beyond my expertise. If the TTS redirect is going to the wrong place, please correct it and let me know. Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia#History (HIT) was the only place I found TTS mentioned at that time, hence the redirect there. Regards, 220 of ßorg 12:00, 8 May 2021 (UTC)

Hey, I found your redirect Operation Kastelholm while patrolling Category:Redirects from given names. It stuck out to me because it's obviously not a given name (aka: first name or forename). I'm thinking the better fit would be {{R from colloquial name}} or more generally {{R from alternative name}}? That being said, I'm not exactly sure what Operation Kastelholm is due to it not being explained in the article. I can't tell if it's a name for the terrorism plot, the raid itself, or a larger campaign in which that raid was a part. Since you have some familiarity with the topic, could you add an explanation of the term to the article? That should prevent it from ending up at WP:RFD! Thanks, -- Tavix (talk) 03:52, 23 December 2021 (UTC)

[1] I must've tapped the wrong 'tag'. 🤦🏻‍♂️ 'Kastelholme' is the name of the Vic. State / Oz Federal Police & ASIO operation that prevented a terrorist incident from occurring. Maybe {{R from related word}}? Seems op. name not mentioned in current sources, unfortunately. I'll try to add it, but don't have time right now.
