Zip Comics: speed of response- Good Grief!
I'm constantly amazed by the speed people get to work on new stuff, I hadn't even time to work out what mistakes I'd missed before publishing. Thanks for the speedy check, one more thanks for giving it a mid-importance on the scale (usually the subjects I cover are rated 'low', and often quite rightly so, but personally I think the MLJ main titles are fairly key and it's nice to see others do). As for getting it above 'C' Class, I suspect that sadly there's so little substantial resource out there on most MLJ material and much of it will lurk in that class forever. Guess the only way would be to write a history so I can go back and cite myself endlessly. Never mind, better there's something available than no reference at all. Thanks again Archiveangel (talk) 00:32, 9 March 2010 (UTC)
- No problem. Thanks for the tips, Airplaneman talk 00:36, 9 March 2010 (UTC)

- Hmmm... looks like it's your or somebody else's opinion. Since this is an encyclopedia, we can't have that. Even with sources, there are many different views on who is the greatest Mcee for MTV; therefore, an article on the subject is not plausible for Wikipedia. It doesn't mean you can't hold an opinion on it; just, Wiki isn't the place for it. Hope that helps. Also, sign your posts by pressing the signature button in the toolbar or by manually typing ~~~~. Sorry! :(
I'm sorry your RfA didn't out, even if I was in the oppose column. As I said there, I think you have the potential to be a fine admin one day, and I hope, with a little more experience, you'll try again in a few months. I have a failed RfA of my own, so I can tell you it's not necessarily a bad thing. Many editors offered good feedback in mine, as they did in yours and hopefully you'll be able to use that to build yourself up into an even better editor! Best, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 10:49, 9 March 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for the message! Regarding the header: I don't take any of the opposes personally, not even the first one. You raised good points which I will try to fix before I consider running again. Regards, Airplaneman talk 21:56, 9 March 2010 (UTC)

Semi-semi-wikibreak
I'm currently hyper stressed from lack of sleep (teens need 9 hours, but I'm sleeping 8, and those hours lost add up). So I will be patrolling my watchlist, but my edit level is going down for about a week. By the way, I reverted your reversion edit because the person just didn't source it. It can be proven, since I checked the browse inside (google fading echoes browse inside). Its in Chapter 2.

Adoption
Hello! I was browsing the admin coaching page. I'm a bit short of the criteria there, so I was hoping to get some feedback through adoption. I tried Editor Review, but no one responded :( So if you're open to adoptees, I was hoping you'd take me under your wing. can i fix a picture from selecting one from google images ??

can u tell me the procedure??
thank u ..
_DRAGON BOOSTER _Dragon Booster 12:31, 12 March 2010 (UTC)_
- No, you don't have to register. Just sign your name under the member list. There should be individual instructions at the project page to tell you how exactly to join. This page tells you about WikiProjects.
- As for images, you can't just put an external link and have the image show up in the article. The image has to be in the Wikipedia database. WP:FILE, a guideline, tells you all about images. Before uploading, please make sure the picture is free content. To do so, read up on this policy, which will tell you what is and what is not accepted. If the image is copyrighted, don't use it unless it meets the non-free content criteria. So basically, since it looks like you want to upload a picture of a person, make sure it is free. Copyrighted images of people, in general, may not be used if taking a free one of them would serve the same purpose.
“ | Pictures of people still alive, groups still active, and buildings still standing; provided that taking a new free picture as a replacement (which is almost always considered possible) would serve the same encyclopedic purpose as the non-free image. This includes non-free promotional images. | ” |
- says the non-free content guide.
- So, in a nutshell, if you're uploading a picture of a person, it pretty much has to be free.
- If you want to upload an image of a book cover, say, for the article, then that is OK, given that you upload a low-resolution copy with the proper fair use disclaimers. This is all told to you in the uploading images instruction page.
- I know it's a lot, but it's a base from which to refer to. I hope I'm making sense; don't be afraid to tell me I'm not!
- About signing your comments: your signature doesn't link you your userpage. Are you using four tildes (that → ~) for it? It looks like you made a custom signature in "my preferences". I've fixed the link for you, if you'd like to use it (just copy):
- If you use this as your signature, signing with four tildes (like so: ~~~~) will produce: Dragon Booster (talk) [time goes here].
- Also, it is not necessary to put spaces before your signature. If you want to indent, put 1 or more colons (that →:) at the very beginning of the line, like I'm doing.
- Hope this helps. Regards, Airplaneman talk 17:49, 12 March 2010 (UTC)

Jigglyfidders edits
Hi Airplaneman, just thought I would cc you this posting that I placed on your adoptee Jigglyfidder's talk page this evening:
"Hello Jigglyfidders, over the past several days I've noticed that you have been making edits such as these [1] and [2] in a few articles. Posting these kinds of "personal observations" or "personal observations" is regarded as a violation of our policies forbidding "original research". Please see WP:OR. It's a good idea to be especially careful when making any edits like these in potentially highly controversial articles such as those concerning subjects like religion and politics. I note that you've recently been "adopted" by another editor; I'd like to suggest that you seek advice from them regarding proper editing practices before continuing to add material to the encyclopedia. cheers Deconstructhis (talk) 03:37, 14 March 2010 (UTC)"

- Nice to meet you as well Airplaneman, just wanted to let you know that Jigglyfidders appears to be continuing on the path of adding unreferenced potentially highly controversial material to articles. I've subsequently added a couple of more user warning templates to his own talk page and addressed an enquiry he made on my page as well. My concern here is that if these kinds of edits continue, despite them being warned against performing them, they will very shortly be blocked. cheers Deconstructhis (talk) 17:14, 14 March 2010 (UTC)
- I have the same concerns. All I can do is keep telling him not to, I suppose. Airplaneman talk 17:31, 14 March 2010 (UTC)

hi airplaneman
kalam with the branches Murji'ah and Mu'tazili should have a separate heading and branch since they have different laws and different theologies
they are currently grouped under sunni denomination even though most sunni scholars reject them as committing bid'ah heres a reference; http://nadeemnaik.com/ and http://www.uga.edu/islam/faith.html
could you group them as a separate denomination please? or is it okay if i do it?

- Ideas for something to do - I'm not sure but perhaps a scared straight approach? Lead him through examples of what happened to troublesome contributors and how that hampered their contribution and undid their work. Perhaps you have some experience with such things (I've mostly been involved with making new articles though a recent issue has me exercising some of these skills. I've tried to suggest things that would probably be worth doing but he seems to have his own angle on what he want's to do. Perhaps something about the evolution of wikipedia and it's standard's today mixed with what happens if you just do shoddy work. I do know others who've done less good and been shot down much faster but I think it's good to try to bring out the best in people when possible. If they just insist on doing shoddy work then they need a stiffer warning. Some of that's been tried - maybe just a stronger version. I don't think this user is capable of good work it's just that he seems to be used to a more combative atmosphere where posture can count as much or more than content. Just state your case, and report to WP:ANI if edits are becoming inappropriate and your attempts to civilly discuss do not work. Hope this helps, Airplaneman talk 18:05, 16 March 2010 (UTC)
Adopt-a-user
My friend requested (off-wiki) that I adopt them, so I did, after making sure I met adopter criteria. What exactly do I do? Just watch their edits and offer help, or do i give them tasks/assignments/quests (ok that link was a joke) to do? Brambleclawx 17:42, 16 March 2010 (UTC)
- You can do anything (everything you mentioned) basically. You don't have to give them missions or anything, but offer them suggestions on how to improve and yea, watch their edits. As you can see above, some of my adoptees' edits are not up to par. Since he's your friend, I guess it's easier since you know him IRL. Be open to any questions s/he may have, and try to cite policies. This way, you learn too! Airplaneman talk 18:03, 16 March 2010 (UTC)

Help
Hi Airplaneman,
For years I've always wanted to create my own wikipedia entry but everything I've considered has already been done. I tried writing one on a new company here in Ottawa and it got "speedily deleted" (bidmyreno.com was the entry). I tried my best to make it read objective and straightforward (I patterned my writing after the ToysRUs and Hotmail entries) but I still got a message that it looked like spam. Argh!
So what can I do? Is it because the company isn't huge or anything? Am I SOL? Should I keep looking for another topic?
Thanks!
Mariospants (talk) 16:32, 17 March 2010 (UTC)
- Sorry it didn't survive; it was probably because yes, the article you tried to create (note: it isn't and will never be your article) was probably not notable per WP:ORG. As it was not notable, and you tried to make it "pass the test", or so to speak, it came across as spam. I think you should look for another topic; don't be discouraged. We were all new once ;). If you want, accept Draeco's offer to adopt you. As a more experienced user, he'll be able to give you some Wiki-tips. If you want to create more articles, read up on how, and look through this log to see potential candidates. Nice to meet you, and happy editing! Regards, Airplaneman talk 17:04, 18 March 2010 (UTC)
Template transclusions
Hello Counting transclusions is easy if you know how. On the page for any template—e.g. Template:Hi—there is a link at the extreme left of the screen that reads "What links here". In this case, you will be taken to Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:Hi. On this page, you have several options to see links themselves (like I created above), transclusions, and redirects. If you want, you can hide any of those and display the others as well. Please post on my talk if you'd like more information. —Justin (koavf)❤T☮C☺M☯ 04:07, 22 March 2010 (UTC)

Adoption
Airplaneman, I'm new to Wikipedia and I'd like to be adopted by someone. I picked you because I saw you enjoy patrolling new pages and welcoming newcomers. I just finished a rough draft of a new entry at User:Abbiejoy81/Vox_Lumiere. Would you mind looking it over and giving me some pointers? I wanted to consult somebody experienced before I try to actually publish it. Thanks in advance for your help! Abbiejoy81 (talk) 22:41, 22 March 2010 (UTC)
- Will take a look. I'll adopt you as well :). Do you have any questions? Airplaneman talk 00:07, 23 March 2010 (UTC)
- OK, I've made some changes. It was all formatting, no prose changes. As you can see, I tweaked your link above (to the page) and fixed other formatting things, as that is usually how articles are formatted. Also, as I did, you can name references so you don't have to type them out every time. WP:REFTOOLS is a nice gadget for citing references instead of using bare links. It's optional but recommended and you might want to do that before moving it into the mainspace. Also, you might want to consider adding an infobox, in this case,
{{Infobox company}}
. This will generate a box in the top-right summarizing the company. See Apple Inc., for example. Airplaneman talk 00:20, 23 March 2010 (UTC)

Curiosity question
Just wondering, what happens if you hop on your computer, edit a page, and then notice you're not logged in and edited as an IP? Is that sockpuppeting? I have to imagine it happens sometimes. Thanks avs5221 (talk) 11:02, 23 March 2010 (UTC)
- The way that I interpret WP:SOCK is that only if you intend to do harm is your alternate account a sock. You can create legit alternate accounts (it's in a section in the linked page), so forgetting to log in is OK. I've done it on many occasions! Airplaneman talk 20:51, 23 March 2010 (UTC)
- P.S. Should I use talkback templates for you? Airplaneman talk 20:51, 23 March 2010 (UTC)
- Yessir. That's what I figured. avs5221 (talk) 21:28, 23 March 2010 (UTC)
I disagree with your statement about the A.C. Moore page. But I will accept it anyway due to it's accurate nature. I was wondering, how do administrators find pages to scrutinize and pick out details, so quickly after changes have been made? If you could respond rapidly that would be enjoyed thoroughly. --Garlikguy (talk) 22:07, 23 March 2010 (UTC)
- I have made no statement whatsoever on the A.C. Moore page. If you think it's inaccurate, find some reliable sources and change the info accordingly. I only reverted your revision because the addition looked dubious. Also, duct tape was misspelled "Duck Tape". Regards, Airplaneman talk 22:11, 23 March 2010 (UTC)
- Oh, and as for spotting it quickly? We have our means of doing so. Note: I'm not an administrator :). Airplaneman talk 22:13, 23 March 2010 (UTC)
- Nonsense. Wikipedians are just Psychics who read the minds of everyone on the planet, filtering for people who edit Wikipedia. I just read yours as well, so i thought i would drop in for the "Spooky" effect. Excirial (Contact me,Contribs) 22:16, 23 March 2010 (UTC) And hi Airplaneman! Hope you don't mind me dropping in like this - seeing the edit i just couldn't resist making this silly comment
- Ah, I was going to say that... but decided not to :). Hey Garlikguy, the above is almost true; Wikipedians (and a bot) tend to sift through revisions at the speed of light! When I'm vandal patrolling, nearly a third of my reverts are aborted, as somebody (or somebotty) else has beat me to it. Airplaneman talk 22:20, 23 March 2010 (UTC)

I see, well... I did not misspell duct tape as duck tape. I fully well ment to say duck tape, seeing as the only brand of duct tape that they sell at A.C. Moore is Duck Tape. So next time you make an edit, please do some reserch before you do so. Additionally, even if they didn't only sell duck tape, the phrase duck tape was before duct tape, because of DUCK TAPE's waterproof nature. I am a duck tape fanatic, and i am expected to know this things. Sincerely, --Garlikguy (talk) 22:24, 23 March 2010 (UTC) Ps, I know that the page is called duct tape, this is incorrect.
- Please provide references next time. For instance, I'm pretty sure Duct tape is spelled correctly. Thanks, Airplaneman talk 22:26, 23 March 2010 (UTC)
- Hello Airplaneman. Its your TPS again. I believe that "Duck Tape" is a brand of duct tape, so technically, its not a misspelling. But I guess Garlikguy made that clear. Brambleclawx 22:36, 23 March 2010 (UTC)

Thank you! I do not mean to be offensive, and duct tape is a proper name for it, just that duck tape is also a name, so next time please be aware! I hope to remain in contact with you all, and one day hope to contribute like you do (not just sucking up like it seems :) ). --Garlikguy (talk) 21:58, 25 March 2010 (UTC)
- No offense taken :). I'm aware of it now. I don't call that sucking up, either, just stating the facts. Happy editing, —Airplaneman— 22:07, 25 March 2010 (UTC)
