Tropical cyclones

- Hi there! I've had a long-time interest in the topic since around 2013, when I began watching typhoon warnings in the news as a 6 year old. I'm fascinated with the display of the forces of nature (and nature in general, really), as well as our ability to predict/forecast them. Recently my focus has been on subtropical cyclones (or any oddball/in-between weather systems), since despite them forming frequently in my region (Western Pacific, near Japan), there isn't much research done about them in my country, meaning there's much more for us to learn. I track tropical cyclones almost daily (whenever there are any) as a hobby, and I'm glad to join a community with similar interests! AluminiumWithAnI (talk) 12:53, 9 May 2024 (UTC)

- Omg you don’t even realize how important it is to overcome these language barriers! By adding to the English Wikipedia, that’s going to end up in Google searches and future research papers, because that once inaccessible info is now freely available to all. Keep it up! - I'm planning to add dozens more typhoons from the 9th to 19th centuries in the short term. I might leave for a few months between autumn 2024 to spring 2025 so as to study for my entrance exams for university, but I'm more than willing to contribute whenever I can. Thank you for your contributions. It seems that you have added Creative Commons licensed text to one or more Wikipedia articles, such as HD 11343. You are welcome to import appropriate Creative Commons licensed content to articles, but in order to meet the Wikipedia guideline on plagiarism, such content must be fully attributed. This requires not only acknowledging the source, but acknowledging that the source is copied. There are several methods to do this described at Wikipedia:Plagiarism#Compatibly licensed sources, including the usage of an attribution template. - Hello, thanks for the reminder. I'm in the process of figuring out the types of licenses and what you can and can't do with them, so I appreciate your help. Regarding this, I have one question: Is there an easy way to see the licensing/rights of an academic journal/article (e.g., if the images used can be used in Wikimedia projects)? - That's a good question. A lot of journal articles are compatibly licensed nowadays, and if they are, it will say so somewhere on the document. For this particular article, I could not locate the license anywhere on the webpage you used in your citation. However, if you click on the link to look at the pdf, you will see the license information at the bottom of the first page. (That's a typical place it will be found.) I did not have to download the pdf for this one, but occasionally I do. For a chart that shows compatible licenses, see Wikipedia:FAQ/Copyright#Can I add something to Wikipedia that I got from somewhere else? — Diannaa (talk) 00:15, 22 September 2024 (UTC)
