February music

[edit]
story · music · places

On the main page today, 300 years after its first performance, Bach's cantata BWV 125, - a lovely very intimate piece, with peace and joy in the title. Enjoy listening with score - I discovered that only now! - Today is also the birthday of James Joyce, who has an article by many authors. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:54, 2 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

My story torday is about an actor who played in almost every German TV series and in internal cinema. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:38, 4 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Gerda Arendt: ooh, he was in Sesamstraße... I lived in Germany for a year as a child in 1983–84 and I used to watch that programme every day! Not sure if he was on then. In fact, there seems to be a disagreement between the Horst Janson (actor) article (which says he left in 1983) and Sesamstraße (which says he left in 1986). RIP to him anyway and thanks for your work on the article.  — Amakuru (talk) 18:09, 4 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Did you look at the little video, him remembering the series, and excerpts? For most readers, it might be too German, but you may recognise something. I nominated him for ITNN, needs attention - I hope I may say this much without being blocked for canvassing ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:14, 4 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Agree w/your comment at WP:ITN/C – Sca (talk) 15:20, 3 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Sca: oh well, it looks like it's here to stay. No wonder many people think ITN is irrevocably broken 🤦  — Amakuru (talk) 16:02, 4 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Of course -- it has been ever since a cabal of admins banned me from it. -- Sca (talk) 18:23, 4 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Draft:Ahmed Reda Hashem

[edit]

Hello. I am a bit disappointed that you deleted this draft page as a copyvio, apparently without checking that the current version, which I had worked on earlier today, was still in violation. I do not think that it was: as I had pointed out to Significa liberdade (diff) a few days previously, she had mistakenly tagged a very early version of the article as a copyvio, because at that point it was only a single sentence, which did appear elsewhere, although referring to a different footballer. In any case, there is now a completely unsourced version of the article at Ahmed Reda Hashem written by another editor. I would be grateful if you would recover the draft page you deleted to my user space so that I can copy in some of the sourcing to the current article. Cheers, SunloungerFrog (talk) 14:52, 4 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @SunloungerFrog: thanks for your note... and respectfully, I wouldn't say the new version was significantly expanded myself, it looked almost identical to the previous version with expanded referencing mainly. Looking at it again, there probably isn't a serious copyvio in fact, because the article is literally two sentences, which only describe his position and who he plays for, nothing more, and the linked page is, as you say, a different player. So I've restored the draft. But I think it needs a lot more expansion before it's ready for main space, so I suggest you work on it some more! Good luck.  — Amakuru (talk) 15:36, 4 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for restoring the draft. I hadn't actually claimed that the version was significantly expanded, just that I had worked on it, in terms of adding some sources. Personally, as a stub article on a subject that meets WP:NSPORTS, I think it's OK as far as it goes. However, I will leave it to the creating editor Mohamedmokhtar22 to expand if if they can and publishing it when they are happy - Egyptian football is not my forte. Cheers, SunloungerFrog (talk) 15:43, 4 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Could you look at this close?

[edit]

Hello! I noticed you have closed contentious RFCs before (iirc it was the one about changing Israel-Hamas War to Gaza War). Now, I know canvassing is banned, but I think this is okay since I'm not asking you vote for one view or another, but rather could you please look at the RFC here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template_talk:Gaza_war_infobox#RfC:_Should_the_US_and_UK_be_added_as_allies_to_Israel_in_the_infobox?

and if you feel you are able to, could you issue a close? I did put at a notice on the relevant page but its been a while since then and nothing happened, so.. Again, if this happens to be against the rules then please do disregard it. But since I'm not asking you vote, I *think* it's fine? Genabab (talk) 13:28, 5 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
