Templating
I've noticed you left two templates on my page for copy-vio. Only I was the mover (and later CSD tagger) of these pages, not the creator. I guess this is just default Twinkle behavior, but you might want to be aware of that in the future. Shadowjams (talk) 19:05, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
- Those were just a FYI in case you had any additional stake in the articles: you had edited them after the original authors created them. I didn't see a CSD notice on the pages until I added one, so, being cautious, I let you know what was going on. It's not Twinkle's default behavior, but I did use the template from the CSD notice. Usage of "their"
Hi! Regarding your Waikiki copyedit - Usage of "their" regarding a single entity ("China Airlines") isn't correct in US English - You would use "its" as "China Airlines" is an it. WhisperToMe (talk) 03:01, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

- Even though the word "airlines" is the plural form, China Airlines is one airline, not a collection of them. If it was "those airlines," then the word "their" would be appropriate. WhisperToMe (talk) 04:02, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

- Yes, I'd tag for notability, although hoax is arguable. I don't think any admin would spare that article on either criterion. I don't think this is IAR, notability is a valid criterion and is regularly used for real things (bands, people clubs etc because they do not assert why they are notable jimfbleak (talk) 07:58, 13 June 2009 (UTC)

Manitoba Social
Regarding your reversion of my edit of social, specificially under Regional heading regarding details of Manitoba social. The details I added are verifiable. I am a Manitoban I attend these gathering on a regular basis. - While I can appreciate that wikipedia aims to have as many entries footnoted as possible, there is also something to be said for first hand knowledge. A Manitoba Social is a traditional, community event and its tenets are not documented in print. It's just a spontaneous thing we do dude, and the things we do at it aren't exactly written down in a source that can be looked up and verified. For all one knows wikipedia could be the only place such a compendium is being made. - I don't remember where I read what I read, or if what I read was a policy or just sounded right to me. The gist was that American left/liberal and right/conservative are fairly moderate, in a global sense. As Wikipedia is a global site, we need to be cognizant of potential misunderstandings. I tried for about half and hour to find what I had read again, but wasn't able to, unfortunately. If you feel we should take this to Talk:Minnesota, feel free to move this thread. Tone

- Not really. The tone issue I'm having is with sentences like "Cape Town, the Mother City, is widely recognised as one of the most beautiful places on the earth and is frequently listed as one of the world's top ten tourist destinations." It reads like a travel guide. This content should be in the Cape Town article, not the AFDA article. Saying that there is a campus in Cape Town is probably all that needs to be said. Stick to talking about AFDA. Don't try to "sell" the school. Also, don't copy and paste material from the school's site to Wikipedia. See WP:COPYVIO for more information about copyright and how to grant Wikipedia permission to use content that the school has created. Basically, Wikipedia can't use material that other people have created/written. The material needs to be expressed originally by a Wikipedia editor.
- As your username is a close match to the school itself, you may also want to review Wikipedia:Conflict of interest so that other editors don't think you acting improperly.—C45207 | Talk 12:33, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
- Ok I understand that, but someone needs to write the article first and then people will be welcome to change the article if they think its biased. - We should strive to write an unbiased article from the outset. If the article looks biased, it will just attract bad edits and may get deleted.
- I don't know how it works at AFDA, but for me, anything I create in the course of my work belongs to my employer, not me. So, if I write a page for my employer and wanted to include content from it on Wikipedia, someone where I work with authority would have to give permission to Wikipedia to use the content. 2006 WGC
I don't think there is a style but it is just never put in for any sport. Like for the NBA Finals, it will never say it is a men's professional basketball tournament. It's more information than is needed. Not copyright violation!
As I have previously mentioned, the author for the "copyrighted" content is written by myself for Lambda school, so why will it be considered copyright violation if I am the originator of the content and I am posting my own writing?? I am not plagiarizing anyone's writing at all. I do not understand why this is become such an issue. - Basically, we have no way of verifying you claim unless you take some extra steps to both show that you are the author and explicitly release the content to Wikipedia under a suitable license. I am sending from my Lambda School address to prove that content is original and posted by the author of the content
This is becoming more and more of a headache here. I have sent in to Wikipedia through my Lambdaarts.ca email account (that I am the originator of the content). This is as absurd as publishing my own work on the internet and it is considered plagiarism. This is an unfair situation that really needs to be rectified.

I am running into an awkward situation here, in which wikipedia claims that I am violating copyright. This is not a reasonable claim, as I am the originator of the content, and I am posting my own writings on WIkipedia ( which I also put on my website).
Check that I am the director of Lambda School and I am sending you the email from my school email address. The hassle of constantly being rejected for posting copyrighted material (which is my own writing) and being threaten to have the wikiipedia page of Lambda deleted is absolutely unfair and is becoming much of a nuisance.
There is no violation of copyright laws, and this can be proven that I am the originator of the content through email.
Please kindly look into that.

How to verify copyright permission for article LAMBDA_School_of_Music_and_Fine_Arts
Hello, 70.27.242.151. However, as I'm sure you understand, Wikipedia must have solid permission to use any content. You say, "This is as absurd as publishing my own work on the internet and it is considered plagiarism. However, how do we know if said person is really the author? By assuming no permission until explicitly granted, Wikipedia protects itself, its editors, and its subjects. Thanks again. That article was going to be deleted either as nonsense or vandalism; it was pretty much garbage either way. I felt it was nonsense enough to go with that; I could have switched the reason to G3. - I don't really find anything wrong with the Elizabeth McLaughlin redirect to The Clique (film). She was in the movie. However, Elizabeth mclaughlin doesn't need to be a redirect too. It appears to have been an attempt to circumvent a page creation block. You, of course, are welcome to bring "Elizabeth McLaughlin" up. Ali Zaidi
I noticed you were doing cleanup on the Ali_Zaidi page recently. A few days ago I was trying to figure out how to recommend a page for deletion (and what categories or rationale to use for that) when it seems like it was deleted. Strangely, it's back, with no records in the logs at http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Log&page=Ali+Zaidi of any kind of deletion recently, although it seems like Ali recreated the page with his own username in its recent incarnation. I don't have a lot of editing experience, so I was wondering if you think the repeated self-promotion is justification for using uw-longterm on Ali's user page and reiterate a message (that I'm sure was somewhere) that he needs to let someone else start an article on him if he is truly notable in wikipedia standards.

- As for deletion, I don't think that any of the WP:CSD apply. It asserts some notability, isn't a recreation of an article deleted due to a discussion, and isn't obvious advertising. As I understand your options, WP:PROD is the next step, followed by WP:AFD, though you can skip right to AFD.
- I don't know about the logs. I see four deletions, the latest in January, 2009. You seem to imply that there was more recent activity.
- I don't think that {{uw-longterm}} is warranted at this point. I can't see who created or edited the first four pages. If article was created by different users, this isn't repeated behavior by the same person. Though, one person could operate multiple accounts, in violation of WP:SOCKPUPPET.—C45207 | Talk 06:01, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

Samwell on YouTube celebrities
Thank you very much for adding 'Sam Norman' to the list on the youtube celebs page. Since his article is titled 'Samwell' and since Tay Zonday's listing is 'Tay Zonday' (as opposed to 'Adam B..' ), I wonder if 'Sam Norman' should instead be 'Samwell'. And since his Fame stems from 'What What', I wonder if that should be mentioned somehow. So like maybe: "Samwell - aka Sam Norman, most notable for What What (In the Butt) and his Brownmark Films channel."?75.44.49.114 (talk) 23:23, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

Filthy Lucre
Hi. :) I just wanted to let you know that I deleted Filthy Lucre (band) as a G6, since the actual article is at Filthy Lucre. We run into this at CP now and again; if CorenSearchBot tags an article as a copyright violation of a Wikipedia mirror, it usually means that either somebody has restored a deleted article or copied an article from one space to another. In this case, somebody hijacked the original at Filthy Lucre to advertise a nightclub event. I've restored the original text and left the contributor a note about these situations at his or her talk page. (This hijacking is not unusual; that this person cared enough to do a copy & paste move is. :) At least he or she was trying to preserve the original material.) Anyway, I don't imagine that my deletion of this will be controversial with you, since you nominated it for deletion yourself after declining the G12 and since anyway the content is all at the other page, but I just thought I'd let you know. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 12:29, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

Wikipedia Ambassador Program is looking for Campus Ambassadors in Houston
Hi! I'm leaving you this message because you are listed as a Wikipedian connected with Rice University. The Wikipedia Ambassador Program is currently looking for Campus Ambassadors to help with Wikipedia assignments at another Houston school, which will be participating in the Public Policy Initiative for the Spring 2011 semester. The role of Campus Ambassadors will be to provide face-to-face training and support for students on Wikipedia-related skills (how to edit articles, how to add references, etc.). This includes doing in-class presentations, running workshops and labs, possibly holding office hours, and in general providing in-person mentorship for students.
Prior Wikipedia skills are not required for the role, as training will be provided for all Campus Ambassadors (although, of course, being an experienced editor is a plus).
