Thanks for your work on cywiki

[edit]

Many thanks for your help on cywiki. However I've reverted this edit. On Welsh Wikipedia, we take a live feed from Wikidata; at present we have 9,000 photos coming from WD and we are busy filling the remaining gap of around 1,500 (decreasing; live / not extinct) - there were 2,250 in January! We have done the same with bird sounds - they are automated, and at present we have c. 154 (increasing) coming from WD. On the 6th May we have around 50 ornithologists coming together in Snowdonia to edit cywiki, Commons and Wikidata. You're welcome to join us! Cell Danwydd (talk) 15:32, 13 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Could you please replace with "Black-crowned Tchagra (Tchagra senegala).jpg" with "Black-crowned Tchagra, Tchagra senegala.jpg", due to incorrect identification of the first file. Not sure how to do it in your system. JMK (talk) 18:47, 16 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Swamp boubou, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Cabinda. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hi. We had this discussion in 2012, but I was wondering if you still hold a strong position on this. I've been looking at WP:COMMONNAME in relation to South African articles, and I remain unconvinced that the article should be called Louis Tregardt when the spelling Louis Trichardt is the more common one. Please see the the talk page of that article.Park3r (talk) 22:04, 12 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi from Projekt Fredrika!

[edit]

Hi,

I’m part of a project called Fredrika, that aims to improve content related to the Swedish minority in Finland on Wikipedia. We used a so called “scraping tool” in order to analyze what users have contributed the most to articles regarding this topic on Swedish and Finnish Wikipedia and your name came up!

We just wanted to say hello and tell you about our project. If you have any questions or suggestions, don’t hesitate to approach me.

Many of us are also attending the Wikimania conference in Stockholm next week and would love to meet you if you are going to be there too.

[edit]

Kan jy asseblief per e-pos met my kontak maak by my minder gebruikte e-pos-adres: dugeot@gmail.com . ? Ek is 'n ou man wat in Junie 82 jaar oud word. Ek hou niks van kwaaivriendskappe nie. Jy kan ook maar in Engels vir my skryf as jy so voel Mieliestronk (talk) 17:26, 2 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Lead Paragaph

[edit]

right on!

A lead introduces you to the subject in a limited number of steps, and is accessible to as many as possible, whatever their angle of incidence. It stops short of specialist details. Some articles to the contrary exist only on a lofty, inaccessible platform that intimidates or excludes newcomers. cf. Timmer, 2015, Byrne, 2017 While the articles have grown and matured, many lead paragraphs are still neglected. They are often too short or too long, and do not provide a summary of the article. Any new contributors may well dedicate themselves to these, and render a valuable service. The lead is a good place to describe the context of the subject, to give a perspective on how the topic fits into the larger picture.

As a new contributor I am finding that I am clarifying Lead Paragraphs here or there. So yes, and thanks! Flibbertigibbets (talk) 23:56, 27 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Glad to hear that the idea resonates with someone. Many lead paragraphs are either single sentences or unfocussed introductions that flow into the body of the article. The latter should be abscised and placed under fitting section headers. Creating useful and fitting lead paragraphs is an art which some writers and experts neglect, as they don't care to stoop to that level. Perhaps wikipedia is still too young to have found that balance, and a new generation of contributors can certainly help fix it. JMK (talk) 07:42, 28 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Generally, One big edit on lead was moving existing first sentences of the body content up to the Lead; and rewriting the first sentence. I am looking around at the talk pages of folks who edited articles I am editing to help with the learning curve. I was glad to find your insight.
