editing page on senator david norris

hi, im the person who has been trying to add information to the David Norris page, about the controversy surrounding a letter he sent to an Israeli court, seeking clemency for his former partner, Ezra Yizhak. The source is a website owned by a reliable news channel, so i dont understand why my addition to the page keeps on getting removed. is it because most of it is copied and pasted from the source i got it from? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aunty-Semitist (talkcontribs) 23:18, 31 July 2011 (UTC)

I believe you are referring to these two edits you made as 109.76.221.24. If you look closely at the bottom of Norris pursues Áras bid despite revelations - RTÉ News, you will see "© RTÉ 2011-RTÉ Commercial Enterprises Ltd, Registration No: 155076, Donnybrook, Dublin 4, Ireland." RTÉ Commercial Enterprises Ltd owns the copyright to that text. If that text were to stay in the article as-is, they could win a lawsuit against the Wikimedia Foundation for plagiarism AKA copyright infringement. I don't want that to happen, I don't think Materialscientist wants that to happen, and I hope you don't want that to happen.   — Jeff G.  ツ 23:45, 31 July 2011 (UTC)
oh alright, thanks. ill just write it in my own words then. DataSigns AIV report

I blocked after reading this, but a report of that nature really ought to go to WP:UAA. Daniel Case (talk) 02:59, 1 August 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the block and your concern, but a report did go to WP:UAA, about a minute before my report to AIV. Details follow.
Breawycker speedy tagged DataSigns and posted to User talk:DataSigns at 00:42 and filed this report at 00:43, Huggle soon learned of the UAA report and notified me via a red ring and upgraded priority, I viewed User:DataSigns' spam of Variable-message sign and asked Huggle to warn the user (or perhaps extend an extant AIV report), at which point Huggle decided to file that report on my behalf at 00:44. I guess Huggle believes in a multi-pronged defense strategy. I am unsure why Breawycker added the spaces in this edit.   — Jeff G.  ツ 03:55, 1 August 2011 (UTC)
OK, no problem. I hadn't realized you were using Huggle, or that it did that. As for Breawycker, my guess is he wasn't, and typed it from what he believed was memory. Sorry about all this. Daniel Case (talk) 18:14, 2 August 2011 (UTC)
Thanks. I have asked Breawycker to chime in.   — Jeff G.  ツ 19:03, 2 August 2011 (UTC)
I added the space accidentally, because I was trying to add a space on the article link but accidentally put it on the username.--Breawycker (talk to me!)
Thanks for the explanation. All's well that ends well.  :)   — Jeff G.  ツ 20:13, 2 August 2011 (UTC)

Hello Jeff, I don't know why you claim there were lack of references in my adition to Hamburger SV page because there was a link to another Wikipedia page. There is also this source: http://www.rsssf.com/miscellaneous/wsoc-awards.html If you agree with this change, please introduce it, because I don't know how to work in Wikipedia very well. Thank you. Paulojmartins (talk) 19:08, 12 August 2011 (UTC)

Regarding "link to another Wikipedia page", please see Wikipedia:Wikipedia is a tertiary source and WP:ASR. If the information on that other Wikipedia page has a primary or secondary source, you should be able to cite that source and eliminate the middleman, but don't delete the wikilink (it's a good thing). Also, I have some doubts about using http://www.rsssf.com/miscellaneous/wsoc-awards.html because it appears to be just one man's opinion, and not peer-reviewed.   — Jeff G.  ツ 03:27, 13 August 2011 (UTC)

Deathly Hallows Part 2 Soundtrack

Hello, I don't know why my edit is called "vandalism" if I'm just trying to clarify that composer Alexandre Desplat has never mentioned that he used the theme "The Kiss" for Deathly Hallows Part 2 soundtrack. Speedy deletion declined: Real estate staging

Although I wholeheartedly agree that the article Real estate staging was blatant advertising at the time you tagged it for speedy deletion, the article is about the same subject as the article Home staging and is a plausible search term. I have therefore removed the speedy deletion tag you placed and redirected the article accordingly. Cheers! —KuyaBriBriTalk 17:12, 15 August 2011 (UTC)

I am learning all but slowly that I am unable to use the wiki site and am having nightmares at the warning you send. Thanks, anyway, for your offers of help. Sadly, I am too computer illiterate to understand most of what I read. My aim was to make a reference to a friend, Alberto Portugheis, who is an international pianist and teacher. To ensure that I got all information provided accurate, I asked him to check all that I had written. He adjusted the words in some instances and approved at the entire script. I asked him to send photographs, which he did. He assures me that he has jurisdiction over them and that they belong to him. I have read your notes above.. and if I am contravening what you require, please understand my ineptness on the computer. I have an MBE for environmental and community services.... but although I have learned much about computers, this site has left me completely bewildered! I cannot fully understand the instructions given. What I need to know is can I re-post an entry for Alberto Portugheis if I re-write the first sentence and use only photos which I have taken? I am sure this information is already there in your many pages of instructions, but I can scarcely read the tiny print over pages and pages. As a world wide encyclopaedia, I fully appreciate your policing, but an entry should exist for this man who does so much work for both music and peace in our troubled world.Normaprocter (talk) 08:30, 16 August 2011 (UTC)

Norma, I am sorry for all the notices I placed. Any article here needs to have reliable sources that we can verify, needs to be written about a notable subject (in this case, also meeting or exceeding our musical and/or biographical criteria), and needs to be substantially written by English Wikipedia editors (with quotes of others properly attributed). I have requested the article's deleting Administrator Atama (talk · contribs) to userfy the article at User talk:Atama#Alberto_Portugheis so that you can continue work on it. Any image here needs to be released under an appropriate license (which would qualify it to be on Wikimedia Commons, where it can be used by Wikipedia in all languages, and by other Wikimedia projects), except potentially one image in an infobox that is subject to fair use, and needs to have important details (source, author, and date) filled out completely.   — Jeff G.  ツ 15:24, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
I restored the article, moved the article to User:Normaprocter (merging the histories), then moved that to User:Normaprocter/Alberto Portugheis. I added a noindex template because the page has some copyvio stuff on it still, and I'd rather keep that low profile while it's being fixed. -- Atama 17:55, 16 August 2011 (UTC)

Dude bro (anon97), to put it simply, one can write about what someone did, but one cannot apply their own judgment to it by indicating what they think of those actions, no matter how they perceive the definitions of the words they wish to use. It may even be deemed a blockable offense, dawg. So, I'd read up on policies and such, maybe starting with The Five Pillars. Best, ROBERTMFROMLI | TK/CN 03:31, 18 August 2011 (UTC)
Broski, describing someone accurately using words with unambiguous meanings does not constitute personal opinion, it constitutes effective use of the English language. There is no question Mr. Dee is a hypocrite; it is a factual statement and thus does not violate any of your guidelines here. 97.115.11.252 (talk) 03:45, 18 August 2011 (UTC)

Question regarding a warning you left

I'm curious what prompted this warning for Genesisfanatic89 (talk · contribs). I assume from the timing that it's related to this edit, which is sourced to a USA Today article. Is USA Today or that specific article not a reliable source, or have I missed something? For the purposes of the AfD of that article, I'm assuming that it is reliable; however, one such source is not enough to establish notability. —KuyaBriBriTalk 14:29, 18 August 2011 (UTC)

The image File:LifeIsGood.png is currently 242 × 63 pixels (242 wide by 63 high) and looks like File:LifeIsGood.png.
At 300px wide, it would look like 300px, which has jaggies.
At 300px high, it would look like 1000x300px, which is huge and has more jaggies.
Do you have a source for a higher-resolution image that would be appropriate for the infobox on this article? I checked with the subject's website, and their new 205 × 57 pixel logo http://www.lifeisgood.com/images/redesign/SP11/nav-logo2.gif (with a Jake smiley on the left) is even smaller, so that's no help, but I found a bigger 360 × 97 pixel version of that new logo archived at http://web.archive.org/web/20060718161953/http://www.yourserve.com/lifeisgoodlogo.gif as thumbnailed by http://web.archive.org/web/20090531172633/http://www.yourserve.com/womensclothing.html - how does that strike you?   — Jeff G.  ツ 16:24, 19 August 2011 (UTC)

That user seemed (from the edits I was exposed to today via Huggle and from the user's user talk page) to be very persistent in edit warring to keep that user's opinions in (or to keep others' opinions out of) article Koch Industries and related articles concerning the activities of the majority owners of that company. That user also seems to be belligerent in its interactions on its user talk page. For the record: I was unaware at the time that the various Georgia-Pacific and Invista products I have used or admired in the past were made by a subsidiary of that company; and I may have used some petroleum products or eaten some beef that was made by a subsidiary of that company, as I generally purchase unbranded petroleum products and beef from retailers.   — Jeff G.  ツ 02:45, 20 August 2011 (UTC)

This note is just to let you know that you mis-tagged Booboobadingdingmachine as a foreign language article. I'm not saying it's encyclopedic! I'm not sure I know what it is. Best Cloveapple (talk) 03:29, 20 August 2011 (UTC)

I tagged it using Huggle with "A2 - wrong project", which I guess should be renamed "wrong language" given its definition. I think some sort of poetry or sources project would be most suitable for the original article containing poetry. Acroterion deleted it as "A1: Not enough context to identify article's subject: probably copyright violation". That was one of my contenders, along with G3 and possibly G1. Anyway, it's gone, good riddance. :)   — Jeff G.  ツ 03:37, 20 August 2011 (UTC)

The History of Minor League Baseball

Were the Bradenton Marauders really founded in 1989 or is it actually 1957. If the team was founded in 1957 well it should say it was founded in 1957 instead of 1989 and it should then have the information that the team was affiliated with the phillies under affiliates. Also the information should also be in the navbox as well. Just because the information is on one page doesn't mean it is not allowed to be on another page. I am not making up history, im telling what the history really is when the club was founded. I am also not trying to copyright either. I only change the wording in the sentence to make it more pleasing and less confusing if someone else was reading the article. I don't change the information itself. Im also not taking credit for the work either. Do you actually have information that the Tampa team is not related to the marauders. Yes, I did become an official user. Also what was the problem with the blueclaws article. There was nothing wrong about adding J.P. Riddle Stadium were the franchise previously played under franchise history. I am a blueclaws fan by the way. Patriotsball (talk) 03:03, 25 August 2011 (UTC)

Is that info from a reliable source? Can we verify it? Thanks!   — Jeff G.  ツ 03:07, 25 August 2011 (UTC)

Re: John Flowers Edit

Hi Jeff,

In relation to the John flowers page I work for Mr Flowers as a staffer and was asked to add the content as it is constructive to the man himself.

How can I go about locking this page?

Kind Regards

Thanks for taking the time to provide me with those details! Considering the speech was to a parliment and does detail information that is in public interest, will providing the direct link to the speech on the NSW parliament's website stop this from being removed? Treasures1950 (talk) 03:38, 25 August 2011 (UTC)

No, we have another project for speeches and other writings, Wikisource (assuming you can get the writer to release the rights).   — Jeff G.  ツ 03:48, 25 August 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for informing me! It was useful in order not to make the same mistake again

August 2011

Hi Jeff G.. Thank you for your work on patrolling new pages and tagging for speedy deletion. I'm just letting you know that I declined your deletion request for File:L.PC Repair logo.jpg, a page that you tagged for speedy deletion, because the criterion you used or the reason you gave does not cover this kind of page. Please take a moment to look at the suggested tasks for patrollers and review the criteria for speedy deletion. Particularly, the section covering non-criteria. Such pages are best tagged with proposed deletion, proposed deletion for biographies of living persons, or sent to the appropriate deletion discussion. Reaper Eternal (talk) 15:50, 24 August 2011 (UTC)

I'm sorry if I was overzealous. The image is copyrighted and promotional, and it was used to promote article L.PC Repair (since deleted) by its uploader WP:SPA 19therealest (talk · contribs) (since blocked), which article is unlikely to be recreated with verifiable references and a valid claim to notability by Wednesday, 31 August 2011 (the time limit for WP:SD#F5). Having reviewed the pages you suggested, I find that WP:SD#G11, like all general speedy deletion criteria, can apply to any type of page, including files, per "These apply to all namespaces (and so apply to articles, redirects, user pages, talk pages, files, etc)" at WP:SD#General. Furthermore, your suggestions WP:PROD and WP:PRODBLP do not apply to files, the former and WP:FFD each take seven days, and the latter takes ten days. The whole point of my tag was immediate eligibility for deletion per WP:DENY, over and above WP:SD#F5. Thus, I reject your entire argument and boilerplate above, and ask that you please retract it forthwith (deleting this response and your Edit Summary for this edit too).   — Jeff G.  ツ 03:55, 26 August 2011 (UTC)
CSD F5 (orphaned fair-use image), which covers this type of image, had already been applied by Sfan 00 IMG (talk · contribs). CSD G11 does not apply since the image is not promotional—it is a company logo that could be used for critical discussion of the company. We have many fair-use company logo on Wikipedia being used for critical commentary on the company. WP:DENY definitely does not apply as that was an essay on dealing with trolls/long term vandals, and the uploader is certainly not a troll. In addition, when you said "delete the response and edit summary", did you mean revert? Thanks. Reaper Eternal (talk) 16:26, 26 August 2011 (UTC)

Mind rebooting your Huggle session?

It seems to be encountering errors, such as reporting IPs to UAA, and you also warned him for an ENGVAR violation when he hasn't edited for over a week. Thanks. Reaper Eternal (talk) 15:32, 26 August 2011 (UTC)

The statements I made in the dyscalculia article are merely "sky is blue" type statements. Do they really need to be sourced?--RJR3333 (talk) 20:48, 26 August 2011 (UTC)

Yes, they need to be sourced - please see WP:RS.   — Jeff G.  ツ 20:55, 26 August 2011 (UTC)

Vandalism

How is the truth vandalism? What about freedom of speech. Just because a page says something doesn't mean its the truth. I was simply fixing it with my edit. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.118.13.190 (talk) 22:10, 26 August 2011 (UTC)

Edith Roelker Curtis

Regarding your note on my talk page: I blanked the page (my new article, on Edith Roelker Curtis) for under a minute, as part of my process of moving in the text for the new article and replacing incorrect text that I had inadvertently pasted in. It does take a little bit of jostling around sometimes to get a new article started. You noted that this "is confusing to readers," but I had only established the article a few seconds earlier, so it's not likely that this created much confusion for visitors. Ercbio (talk) 22:25, 26 August 2011 (UTC)

You can overwrite in one edit, there is no need to blank. The second version of that article looks SO much better, well done!   — Jeff G.  ツ 22:28, 26 August 2011 (UTC)

Diego Lugano Fener-> PSG

Hi Jeff,

unregistered users made "official" the transfer of Diego Lugano from Fener to PSG. This is not yet confirmed by PSG or Fenerbahçe. Lugano's agent even dismissed the news after being interviewed on RMC radio tonight (of course, does not mean the transfer is not imminent, but...) : http://www.rmcsport.fr/editorial/176756/rien-n-est-fait-pour-lugano/

The page should probably be reverted for now to http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Diego_Lugano&oldid=446835575 Since you seem to be a senior Wiki user, you may have a way to prevent vandalism... until the transfer is official... or not (Juventus is/was also interested in Lugano) Cheers

Hi, I just got a new notification in talk page that you have stated about my edit in Afghanistan article. my edit was just about the ranking of Afghanistan in number of population and the edit was that i have updated the ranking of Afghanistan and the reference is from Wikipedia it self.--Ahmadfaisalsidiqi (talk) 18:32, 27 August 2011 (UTC)

Wikipedia is not a reliable source. Please see Wikipedia:Wikipedia is a tertiary source and WP:ASR. If the information on that other Wikipedia page (which you consider the source) has a primary or secondary source, you should be able to cite that source and eliminate the middleman (or middlepage in this case).   — Jeff G.  ツ 20:28, 27 August 2011 (UTC)

I understand that Wikipedia is not a source to be mentioned, i just updated one line that earlier it was written that Afghanistan has population of 28 million making it the 42nd most populous, now that the population is 31 million, it has been ranked as the 39th most populous. i updated this line. check here for more information about the population that Afghanistan has, and then you update it List of countries by population--Ahmadfaisalsidiqi (talk) 08:37, 28 August 2011 (UTC)

Your revert

Curious as to why you did this and warned the IP; the message says that if the user agrees with the bot assessment of the article, the user can remove the message, no? Logan Talk Contributions 02:56, 28 August 2011 (UTC)

Don't Tread On Me Brand

How can I put a neutral reference to the Don't Tread On Me company in the same way Nike has a reference in the Gadsden Flag section?

"Athletic apparel company Nike uses the image of a snake coiled around a soccer ball for an ongoing, patriotic "Don't Tread On Me" campaign in support of the United States men's national soccer team."

Donttreadonmebrand (talk) 03:39, 30 August 2011 (UTC)

You may not, because you need "to avoid subjects relating to the Don't Tread on Me meme." However, you may post referenced information to their talk pages.   — Jeff G.  ツ 15:11, 31 August 2011 (UTC)
