Information icon Please do not add or change content, as you did at James Albaugh, without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. CycloneYoris talk! 07:02, 29 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

https://colhi68.tripod.com/68roster.html. gives the reference that they graduated from the same high school.... it doesn't mention basketball, so I could just change the phrase to say they were classmates. In my opinion this is interesting since Mattis became secretary of Defense and Albaugh became the CEO of the second largest defense supplier for the Depart of Defense (i.e. Mattis was his customer) Juanjosemda (talk) 21:18, 29 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

https://www.3dsystems.com/press-releases/3d-systems-co-founder-chief-technology-officer-chuck-hull-awarded-national-medal this is the reference I'm trying to add for Hull's job title. Juanjosemda (talk) 17:51, 29 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I guess so. You can try to re-add it since it does seem valid. CycloneYoris talk! 20:52, 29 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
thanks for your patience with a new person Juanjosemda (talk) 21:16, 29 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
thanks again, I resubmitted Hull and it says it's a pending change (not sure what that means but I will continue to watch it) Juanjosemda (talk) 21:19, 29 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Stop icon You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you add unsourced or poorly sourced material to Wikipedia, as you did at Leo Terrell. CycloneYoris talk! 07:26, 29 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,
I'm all new to this so please forgive me for not getting it right. I will try and get the references. The bad link was an accident on Hull, I was just trying to add his current job title not a new link. I will try again. Juanjosemda (talk) 17:23, 29 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. I also want to apologize for the rude warnings, but I was just trying to warn you about adding unsourced content. I recommend reading WP:Verifiability and WP:Reliable sources for further information. CycloneYoris talk! 20:54, 29 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry to bother you again. On Terrell, is a high school year book reference acceptable? thanks Juanjosemda (talk) 17:59, 29 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If you have the link, then I see no problem with it. CycloneYoris talk! 20:54, 29 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Mr. Yoris, On the Terrell question. I have a hard copy high school year book from 1972 that has him listed as the student body president....it's not on line.... can I use a high school year book reference as a source or is that not considered reliable....thanks again for your patience. Your submission at Articles for creation: Orange County Rescue Mission (December 5)

[edit]
Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed. Unfortunately, it has not been accepted because it included copyrighted content, which is not permitted on Wikipedia. You are welcome to write an article on the subject, but please do not use copyrighted work. Avgeekamfot (talk) 03:25, 5 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello and thanks for your feedback on Orange County Rescue Mission. I'm new so please excuse my question. This is my first article. When I did editing, the editor insisted I site external sources. I think I've done that here. Is the issue that the words are too close to the exact words of the cited sources? Can I still use a reference if I change the wording completely into my own wording? Is it better if I just put the cited sections in quotes and leave them exactly as they were published in the newspapers? Again, sorry for being ignorant on all of this.
thanks,
John Juanjosemda (talk) 04:14, 5 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Juanjosemda, fyi, if you want to get the attention of your AfC reviewer, you have to ping them - type @ when replying and this should automatically bring up a drop-down menu with their username in it for you to select. Otherwise you can use Template:U.
I've deleted your draft as a copyright violation (sorry). At first I thought I could clean out the bits that were directly copied, but it ended up being basically the entire thing. You need to write completely in your own words. Please be sure to avoid WP:CLOP as well. I'll send you a template message with some explanations in a moment. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me or go to WP:TEA for help. -- asilvering (talk) 07:07, 5 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Asilvering
Thank you for your coaching on Orange County Rescue Mission. I understand now that everything has to be in my own words. But all of my references and everything that I collected to do the rewording with seems to have disappeared completely from my sandbox, draft pages, etc. Is that what has been deleted? Isn't there somewhere I can get back to what I submitted and use that as the raw material to do my rewrite? If not, can you temporarily undelete it so I can get my work back to use as a starting point?
thanks,
john Juanjosemda (talk) 06:10, 6 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No, sorry, it's a copyright violation, so we can't host it here. I can give you the list of sources you used, if you need those? -- asilvering (talk) 08:33, 6 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Asilvering this is very discouraging to hear. of course I'll take whatever you will send but couldn't you at least email me my work so I have something to start from? I know it didn't look like much but that took me a long time to pull together and I will have to completely redo it as a starting point so I can do what you suggested.
thanks Juanjosemda (talk) 15:25, 6 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
