The article defines the foundation of the approach, highlights two notable individuals in the process and provides others with the ability to access information about the organization.

The message I left you referred to your addition of self promotional links to Cohoes, New York Wikipedia considers it spam when you do this. Clacton By-election (Apolitical Website Record of ) Campaign

If anything, the Edit Removal can be seen as a restriction of 1st amendment free speech.

"An article can report objectively about such things, as long as an attempt is made to describe the topic from a neutral point of view."

This has been done.

This is a factual statement.

I am setting up an apolitical website, from a neutral point of view; and will be doing this for all by-elections. If wikipedia instead want to create a "detailed campaign photos / leaflets" page, I have no objection to that.

It's important that Wikipedia remains a factual news summary, distant from detailed debate and blog.

However, that doesn't detract from similar need for a site to record all points of view from that period. Otherwise these facts are simply lost because they don't make a newspaper front-page headline or only page 23.

Its important that elections are preserved as a factual historical record. That is not to say you agree either way, but that is a leaflet delivered, these are the people that helped.

From a democratic point of view, wouldn't it be great to have an Ed Balls leafletting for the conservatives, we know he was in them at uni. He say's that was for access to debates, others like me suspect just trying to get on, regardless of party. Having somewhere to go, to verify XYZ was at a campaign is factual.

For a similar theme, we can assume Marin Luther King's speech needs to be excluded, because it related to a dream he had, and therefore wasn't factual.

Please re-instate my edit, and if someone complains, or re-edits that it is commercial promotion or non-apolitical, then review.

I am hoping to get my website fully function by Tuesday using Drupal. The technology takes time.

Revisions to Haralson County High School

Thank you for deleting the section about the HOPE Academy from the HCHS page. I was unable to find verifiable information about it online (because the homepage recently changed so the original reference link no longer works), but didn't want to completely remove the section for fear of offending the powers that be (and because I know nothing about it). Although it may not seem like it, I am attempting to clean up the page of my alma mater and make it seem less like it was written by a band parent (e.g. "They compete four times a year and always receive high scores"). I'm trying to base what I add to the entry on what is included in the entries of other high schools in the state and what information is available in newspapers and on the school's website. However, the information available is limited due to the apparent overhaul of the website and I will admit to being biased.

That said, how can I try to eliminate bias in the article? To my untrained eyes, it does not seem any more biased or "like an advertisement" than the page for Duluth High School, for example. What information would you personally consider necessary or unnecessary in an article about a high school? I plan to add a section about the school's history using a book published by the historical society and information from the school's website.

Update — I sorted out some (but not all) needed citations. Apparently the Gbarnga School started as a mission of the United Method Church with goals to produce food and employment for the region. See Gbarnga Mission and School of Theology. That history does help explain the odd variety of subjects he studied, and the connection to his commitment to helping people better themselves.

I'll do a bit more searching today to sort out citations for the rest of his credentials. I agree, diplomas and certificates are not very impressive, but in my experience working with students from Africa, accreditation of these institutions is usually handled through government officials in the country's ministry of education. In places like Nigeria, warring factions add another layer of complication to problems of an already politicised situation. Even still, why would he be awarded an honorary D.D. after having earned one?

Yesterday I also found vague references to a controversy near the end of his life that resulted in his being temporarily removed as bishop, then later reinstated. Charlton Victoria

I have just added a brief history of the town's newspaper. I added links to the obituaries of my parents who were consecutively owners/editors of the newspaper and to the combined newspaper, the North Central News. I don't understand why these links have been deleted as the obituaries contribute a great deal to the town's history and have all been published in the mainstream media. I am aware of the restrictions that you have to apply, but I can't see why you can't link to the obituaries because they happen to be sitting on my website archive. Islamic Online University

Hello, I'm not trying to edit or delete any legitimate content of the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Islamic_Online_University The information present on the talk page is the presentation of strongly opinionated person that views legitimate and harmful libraries as some sort of extremist pages.

If you have a suggestion how to keep the content of the IOU page without being constantly modified to content that does not represent the IOU, it will be highly appreciated. Other users are entitled to voice their own opinions on the talk pages, Wikipedia is not censored. The article seems neutral to me at the moment. On the talk page of "Bible" the first use of "moron" is NeilN's where he objects to my calling him by that name. I can't find it anywhere earlier on that page. Right after that, I responded as if I had used these words because I remembered writing them, but thought I had neglected to delete them. Down below, NeilN has provided a link to some edit that looks vaguely familiar, but I lack the technical ability to understand it. All of this enquiry probably doesn't matter.

Salt Lake Community College

So I'm a student at SLCC, does that constitute a conflict of interest, because that is the only source for my interest in updating the page.

Previously, the page hadn't been touched since 2006.

Granted I'm not professional by any standard definition, but I thought it might be nice to have people know that the president recently changed and that the logo being displayed was outdated.

I've tried to be as encylopedic as possible and reference any questionable facts. I had to reach ten edits in order to be able to correct the logo issue.

I think part of the issue was since this was the only reason I created a wiki account initially was to edit this page, my signature reflected that, so I have changed it to something that doesn't pertain to the school.

If that means I can't do anything, then so be it but I felt sorry for the School's wiki page that no one ever seemed to update and caused problems because of inaccuracies.

I'm a student here, but also at the end of my degree and have a job in the works so I don't plan to be here long.

I would find it extremely hypocritical if wikipedia didn't let students edit the page, I just wish more students did the same so I didn't seem so abnormal for taking an interest in the place I pay to go to school.

Who else are you going to get that are experts in their field and qualified to comment? Employees of the SLCC? Employees of other colleges?

Granted there are lots of things that I would complain about, like "eportfolios", or the lack of parking at peak times of the day, or the fact that there isn't any good student housing located near by, but every time I think about adding any of it, it just seems out of place on wikipedia and I feel like I'm unnecessarilly trolling to get back at the school. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SLCCDGentry (talk • contribs) 16:01, 7 October 2014 (UTC)

You have copied and pasted copyrighted content from the college website, this is strictly forbidden. Yes you do have a conflict of interest if you are a student there, but as long as you edit in a neutral manner and supply reliable references fro your content you should be fine.Theroadislong (talk) 16:38, 7 October 2014 (UTC)

Actually, I didn't add the history section so I know that I didn't create any copyright issues with that section.

That copy didn't actually come from the school either as it existed off the 2006 content. It comes from the book listed in the source references.

Also, I'm pretty sure that the school's enrollment page has updated since 2006 so they probably pulled the content from Wikipedia if its similar.

The school has a copy of the book referenced in the library, but it is out of print and had very little circulation so the best way for me to verify anything with you would be to scan the book most likely.

There is another book that the college has regarding its history called The First Thirty Years, a History of Utah Technical College at Salt Lake by Jay L. Nelson, that I plan to add to the reference section verifies the content. If you would like, I can scan and send you the first chapter of this book to verify that the content came from somewhere other than the school's website. Actually, no, you were right to restore it. This Erodr app is actually notable enough for an article and like Yik Yak is also a social media app targeted at the college campus. This "Qjndakdnakdnad" has been edit-warring for a week trying to get his non-notable "Masquerade" mentioned in the Yik Yak article, which I have opposed. Help needed uploading an image

I am trying to replace the logo on this page because it is out of date: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cambridge_International_Examinations

And I have found the image on Wikimedia Commons: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:UCIE.svg

But I still can't find a way to upload the new image - it says I cannot overwrite the existing file but I don't know why that is.

The problem is that where it should say 'upload a new version of this file' it say 'You cannot overwrite this file' and I want to know why. The logo is 2 years out of date and needs replacing. Pardon me barging in. @LexieHoskins: The best approach at Commons may be to upload the new version of the image as a new image altogether (with a new name) and then change the articles where the old image is used to point to the new one instead. You claim that I was soapboxing, promotion or advertising, however I was updating the AHA's page information, our new official slogan, and correct links to journals. I don't see how anything that I did can fall under soapboxing, promotion or advertising, but if you could provide more detailed information rather than just a vague threatening message I would definitely appreciate it, so that I might know what I could have possibly done wrong so that I don't violate any policies.AHA McLain (talk) 03:31, 15 October 2014 (UTC)

Inconsistant/non-uniform/incorrect/false/contradictory/inaccurate information for the 15 DH ALBs

Please do not assume incorrect intentions as this is offensive. There are 15 national health and social care bodies of the Department of Health and we are trying to make all the articles consistent and uniform. Some of these bodies state 'of the United Kingdom' and some do not. It is not necessary for it to state this information in the first line as this becomes obvious in other sections of the article. Also, these bodies are bodies for England and not the United Kingdom therefore provides false information which is against the use of Wikipedia. Inconsistency is false and incorrect. Either all 15 bodies should contain 'of the United Kingdom' or they should not. It's contradictory that some do and some do not. It is better and more accurate that for consistency and uniformity that they do not include 'of the United Kingdom' as they are bodies for England and provides incorrect information as the reader will assume that these bodies operate for the whole of the United Kingdom. The four countries of the United Kingdom have separate health and social care systems. They do not have a unified system! Before making assumptions, please do some research! Thanks for your reply. The response doesn’t really tackle the main issue which was consistency and uniformity. The Department of Health has 15 Arm’s Length Bodies and if you look through all 15 of them, the opening sentence is formatted differently on them rather than the same. Some say ‘of the Department of Health’ and some say ‘of the Department of Health in the United Kingdom’. Do you see the problem now? And why is it that you are only concerned with a few of the DH’s ALB’s? Why not all 15 of them!? Do you not have any concern for the other DH ALBs? At least, when the edit was done on this side, it was done out of concern for all of the 15 DH ALBs hence the consistency and uniformity. Life Insurance Settlement Association page

This is my first experience with Wikipedia edits so perhaps you can help me out here. My impression is that Wikipedia is intended to be a user-generated reference site that provides factual background information to people conducting research on the Internet. The content that was posted by the Life Insurance Settlement Association staff was just descriptive information that explained who they are, what they do, how their members serve consumers, etc. I saw that it was taken down by someone so I simply tried to re-post it for others to be able to view the content. If the information posted is factual and verifiable, how is that problematic for posting on a user-generated reference site? I just did a quick search on wikipedia.org and found dozens of pages for trade associations across all sorts of industries that do precisely the same thing, most of which provide citations to that organization's website, precisely the way that LISA did with the content they attempted to post. What am I not understanding? Can you help me understand the acceptable way for factual information about a professional association to be published on Wikipedia? Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, the content you added was VERY promotional in tone which is why it was deleted. As you have a WP:Conflict of interest it is wise to suggest changes on the articles talk page. As a new user you can always ask questions at The Teahouse. LISA page follow-up

We're not at cross-purposes here -- as a communications consultant and free-lance writer, I use Wikipedia frequently and I'm delighted to learn that there are editors monitoring the content posted to the site. I'm just trying to understand how the system works since I honestly don't see how the edits the LISA staff made to the page for their association are materially different in promotional tone to pages such as these: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Aluminum_Association http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Hospital_Association http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/America%27s_Health_Insurance_Plans http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Consumer_Electronics_Association I noticed that in each of these cases there is a disclaimer across the top that disputes/questions/frames the content as "not neutral" or whatever, but at least the content is allowed to be posted for researchers to read for themselves. I'm just trying to understand what LISA or any other professional association (I consult with others) needs to do in order to have Wikipedia pages that are similar to the dozens on there now for various professional associations. For example, if they aren't going to be allowed to edit the single paragraph on their Wikipedia page now -- which is inaccurate, by the way -- should they submit a brand new page to Wikipedia under the same name? Or do they need to try to track down the original creator of the page and ask him/her to post edits? Pointing out that there are other appalling promotional articles on Wikipedia is hardly a good defence for doing the same ? The maintenance templates at the top of the page indicate the problems that need fixing in those articles...to use them as a justification to write in a similar manner is rather odd? I'm trying to be polite and have intelligent dialogue here, as per the Wikipedia communications guidelines on the page to which you directed me earlier, may I ask you to please do the same? You're free to find my prior question odd -- and to mock my research into other Wikipedia entries -- but nonetheless I'm just asking what LISA (or any other professional association) needs to do in order to post factual edits to a Wikipedia page dedicated to their own organization. If a Wikipedia editor wants to post a banner across the top of the page that labels the information as "not neutral" or whatever, I totally understand -- but I'm just trying to ascertain what needs to be done in order to at least publish the information for other people to read and make up their own minds about credibility. Weston College

Hello

I tried to edit the page for Weston College yesterday, however it was identified that I'm affiliated with the college and reverted to the original version of the page once I had finished. I appreciate Wikipedia's need for accurate, impartial information; indeed, it was to that end that I was editing the page. I see the page has been edited by someone else and is now more up to date, however it is still not completely correct (for example, it states that the college is a provider of higher education, when in fact it provides both further and higher education courses). I realise that the information I amended yesterday perhaps lacked an adequate amount of references, however it was all factually correct. If I edit the page again, and ensure that I am referencing wherever possible, can I be assured that my editing will be acceptable?

Wikipedia is only really concerned with facts that are supported by reliable references, preferably secondary references. As you have a clear conflict of interest it is better to use the article talk page to suggest any changes. I have removed all promotional and non neutral content for you. Metal Fabricaton Edits

You did not permit the addition of brazing, soldering or active soldering. There was No reference at all to brazing and soldering, which I did link to wiki pages..

I had included references and also some external and internal links, but none were allowed. Note that the field of active soldering is a new field our company is engaged and we are a leader in the technology, hence many of the references to the technology do include external links to our commercial website, www.s-bond.com, but our referenced pages are quite technical but fundamental to the technology. You need to show that the subject meets Wikipedia's criteria of notability. To show that, you need to find several reliable sources, independent of the subject (such as newspapers, or websites with a reputation for fact-checking) which have written at length about the subject. You then need to reference specific information in the draft article to those sources, using the methods described in referencing for beginners. Thank you for looking at the page I have set up. Apologies if I have done something against the rules. I am extremely new to this.

Please let me know if this is against the rules - my aim is to add a page to Wikipedia which explains the history of our law firm which has been based in Southport for over 100 years and has a interesting history. I added the short details about the actual law firm to the page as I thought that the 'User:Hodgehalsall' page was a type of 'about you' bio and that I would be able to create a page itself to descrive our history. I do not aim to advertise anything so I apologise if i have made a mistake.

If it is ok to create an article about our history please let me know if i have done this in the wrong place. The article is a timeline of our firm and not prmotional.

To create an article about your company, you need to show that the subject meets Wikipedia's criteria of notability.
