Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, Ticketthedog, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, your edit to Bassem Youssef does not conform to Wikipedia's Neutral Point of View policy (NPOV). Wikipedia articles should refer only to facts and interpretations that have been stated in print or on reputable websites or other forms of media.

There's a page about the NPOV policy that has tips on how to effectively write about disparate points of view without compromising the NPOV status of the article as a whole. If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the Questions page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, click here to ask for help on your talk page, and a volunteer should respond shortly. Below are a few other good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Questions or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome!  Burrobert (talk) 12:15, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, would you be willing to assist in revising the edits to be more in line with the guide? The actual content is relevant to the article and should be present I would welcome assistance in corrections if needed. Ticketthedog (talk) 15:05, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Firstly, don't reinsert content into an article if another editor has disputed the addition as you did at Bassem Youssef. Secondly, as mentioned in the Contentious topics notice below, don't make edits relating to the Arab-Israeli conflict as you did at the Times of Israel article, until you are qualified. Thirdly, the use of X as a source is generally frowned upon. So, in summary, find a better source than X, and then make an edit request on the article's talk page rather than insert the material yourself. Burrobert (talk) 15:35, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Understood. If he made statements on twitter would that be reliable? Also where is the TOI topic warning as I don't see one. Ticketthedog (talk) 15:53, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The notice is not specifically about the ToI. It concerns all edits related to the Arab-Israeli conflict. Your edit on the ToI page was about that conflict. Regarding X, the simplest approach is to avoid using it. If you do use it as a source, don't add your own commentary about the meaning of the tweet. Introduction to contentious topics

[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Additionally, you must be logged-in, have 500 edits and an account age of 30 days, and are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on a page within this topic.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

If you continue to violate WP:ECR as you did here you will be blocked from editing. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 12:21, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't edit the page I left a comment on the talk page. Ticketthedog (talk) 17:38, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That is prohibited by WP:ECR. Here's the easy-to-digest message I normally leave for new editors in the topic area. It covers what is prohibited and what is allowed in plain language.
I've noticed that you've expressed an interest in the Arab–Israeli conflict. Unfortunately, due to a history of conflict and disruptive editing it has been designated a contentious topic and is subject to some strict rules.

The rule that affects you most as a new or IP editor is the prohibition on making any edit related to the Arab–Israel conflict unless you are logged into an account and that account is at least 30 days old and has made at least 500 edits.

This prohibition is broadly construed, so it includes edits such as adding the reaction of a public figure concerning the conflict to their article or noting the position of a company or organization as it relates to the conflict.

The exception to this rule is that you may request a specific change to an article on the talk page of that article or at this page. Please ensure that your requested edit complies with our neutral point of view and reliable sourcing policies, and if the edit is about a living person our policies on biographies of living people as well.

Any edits you make contrary to these rules are likely to be reverted, and repeated violations can lead to you being blocked from editing.

Hello,
Not sure which article you are referencing. In regards to the Danon article I referenced his book the article had many errors including his fathers name and the age Danon was when his father passed. Ticketthedog (talk) 14:37, 28 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

friendly advice

[edit]

We've never interacted but I saw your post on Wikipedia_talk:Arbitration_Committee/Noticeboard#Off-wiki_misconduct_in_Palestine–Israel_topic_area and I just wanted to recommend you just self-revert it. While I'm sure it was coming from a good place, that is not the right venue to discuss that and may get you in trouble. Andre🚐 02:49, 10 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have reverted it as a clerk action. Please remember to keep the extended confirmed restriction in mind when editing. Thanks, HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 02:51, 10 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Got it and appreciated. Ticketthedog (talk) 03:03, 10 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, I appreciate the help. If I may ask will there be any relief to the articles they damaged? I am glad action was taken on those involved, but the average user meanwhile will still be reading these posts. I am a huge fan of Jewish history and it is what got me interested in wikipedia.
Thanks -Ticketthedog Ticketthedog (talk) 03:05, 10 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
1) You can't discuss it until you make 500 edits. Don't rush to do so either. 2) You shouldn't use those terms to describe things, because it is against the rules here to talk that way. Andre🚐 03:09, 10 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I see, noted. Thank you Ticketthedog (talk) 03:13, 10 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
