The result was no consensus. There's no clear consensus to either keep, delete or draftify. I don't think we are going to get consensus one way or the other in this discussion. Fenix down (talk) 20:17, 19 October 2020 (UTC)

Non-professional club, does not meet either WP:GNG or WP:FOOTYN. Would redirect to league, but no article for the league exists. Was deprodded with the rationale, "This is a football club playing in a prominent semi-professional league(Surulere Regional League) in Lagos Nigeria. I am in the process of creating an article for the league and that should be ready in a bit." If and when the article for the league is created, this could be redirected there. But again, clearly does not meet FOOTYN. Onel5969 TT me 22:52, 27 September 2020 (UTC)
- like I said before, this team plays in a recognized semi-pro league that have members who play in the National Cup in Nigeria. I am yet to finish editing the article for the league and that could be a major reason in deciding not to keep this article. I think that's not fair on editors, especially as they have to start from scratch again when the article for the league is approved. Felixdgreat (talk) 00:18, 28 September 2020 (UTC)

- Delete - no evidence of notability. GiantSnowman 11:28, 28 September 2020 (UTC)
- Comment: The club has at least some coverage in national sports media in Nigeria. I haven't been able to establish what sort of level the Surulere Regional League is at though. — GasHeadSteve [TALK] 11:43, 28 September 2020 (UTC)
- Comment they did play in the Round 32 of the Lagos FA Cup(the preliminary stages of the national cup) last season, I think that should count for something in determining notability. Felixdgreat (talk) 13:55, 28 September 2020 (UTC)
- Comment Tough one to work out, all I can think of, were they fans of Star Wars with a team name of Star Base! Maybe it can be put into draft space, however, I don't see anything real towards basic GNG. Govvy (talk) 13:43, 28 September 2020 (UTC)
- Draftify - if the claim that they have played in the prelim stages of the national cup is true, then there is potential notability here. I would suggest a move to draft space to allow editors time to prove the notability before moving it back to the main space. Spiderone 16:26, 28 September 2020 (UTC)
- Keep - I think seeing as they've played in the preliminary rounds of the main national cup competition, as mentioned above, then that's enough to confer notability. On a more general note, the coverage of Nigerian football on Wikipedia is pretty poor - it's a nation of well over 200 million people and football is the main national sport, yet Category:Football clubs in Nigeria only has 89 articles in it. I don't think deleting one of those articles (where there is any sort of claim to notability) is of any help in improving that coverage. — GasHeadSteve [TALK] 12:52, 30 September 2020 (UTC)
- Delete - Fails WP:GNG. Dougal18 (talk) 13:01, 3 October 2020 (UTC)
- Keep - playing national cup, and with media coverage like this, the team is both notable (and meets FOOTYN) and meets GNG. It's very clear that football teams in Nigeria are massively underepresented here through WP:BIAS. I'm not sure why User:onel5969 isn't trying to fight systemic bias. - Comment - If I'm not mistaken, the national tournament in Nigeria is the Nigeria Federation Cup, which is called the AITEO Cup. The source in this article is a primary source and claims they played in something called the Lagos FA cup in the 2017/18 season. However, as per this source, which was used on the page for the 2018 Nigeria Federation Cup, Starbase did not participate in the national cup tournament that year (nor in 2017 or 2019, I checked just in case). Perhaps the Lagos FA cup is something different? Regardless, as of this point, there is no independent sourcing showing that they did play in the national tournament.Onel5969 TT me 23:20, 3 October 2020 (UTC)
- It's noted above that the Lagos FA cup is one the preliminary rounds for the national cup. We don't discount UK teams, all 644 of them last year that only played in the 2019–20 FA Cup qualifying rounds, and weren't one of the 124 made it to the First Round Proper of the 2019–20 FA Cup. That's an example of systemic bias. Nfitz (talk) 03:13, 4 October 2020 (UTC)
- The Surulere Regional League is a youth competition. Starbase should be deleted on that ground alone. The Lagos FA Cup is a separate competition that the finalists qualify for the AITEO Cup. Teams from Australia have been deleted even after playing in the FFA Cup so any accusations of bias are nonsense. Dougal18 (talk) 11:17, 4 October 2020 (UTC)

- Comment the Lagos FA Cup is the preliminary round of the Federations Cup(Also known as Aiteo Cup for sponsorship reasons). All teams have to play the state qualifiers before they get to National level. Felixdgreat (talk)
- Comment - No, it's a qualifying tournament to make the national tournament. Separate tournaments are not "rounds". Onel5969 TT me 16:53, 5 October 2020 (UTC)
- Comment In 2019, Box 2 Box FC, A team that plays in the Surulere League as Star Base defeated MFM F.C. to progress to the Federation Cup(Aiteo Cup) where they were later eliminated. You have to understand that football is very much different in Nigeria from other European countries. I don't know how a preliminary tournament that qualifies you for the national cup is classed as irrelevant. Felixdgreat (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 17:04, 5 October 2020 (UTC)
- CommentFelixdgreat, What are you talking about? Star Base never played in the Aiteo Cup, per the sources about the Aiteo Cup. As it says in 2019–20 FA Cup qualifying rounds, "32 winners from the Fourth Round Qualifying advance to the First Round Proper". This clearly indicates that all prior rounds were qualifying rounds, and therefore mean that this team doesn't meet FOOTYN.Onel5969 TT me 18:02, 5 October 2020 (UTC)
- That's not really a valid comparison, though. The qualifying rounds of the FA Cup are still part of the FA Cup....... -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 18:33, 5 October 2020 (UTC)
- Exactly, ChrisTheDude, teams playing in the qualifying rounds of the English FA CUP have pages about them on Wiki but because this is Nigeria, preliminary rounds are now irrelevant. Felixdgreat (talk) 13:35, 6 October 2020 (UTC)

- Delete - Fails WP:GNG. None of the comments show that it passes GNG. Nigej (talk) 07:36, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
