Hodja Nasreddin is topic banned, and has been using this IP to evade his ban. Since Hodja Nasreddin's appeal is current discussed at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Amendment#Request_to_amend_prior_case:_Russavia-Biophys, it is urgent that this is request is handled as soon as possible, since the outcome will very likely affect his appeal.

  1. Both do not like the term "massacre": [1] vs. [2]
  2. Both misspell "siege" as "seige" [3] vs. [4]
  3. IP doesn't like Shamil Basayev described as a butcher: [5]. Hodja Nasreddin vindicates Basayev by claiming that the Russians were behind the siege: [6]. Hodja Nasreddin doesn't like Basayev's men described as terrorists: [7] and thinks Russians are to blame for the killings of the hostages, not the militants: [8]
  4. Below, Hodja Nasreddin has admitted that the IP is from the geographic location as he: [9] Nanobear (talk) 12:09, 10 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • No, that was not me. But it does appear unusual that someone from the same geographic location edited articles about FSB and Basayev right now. Maybe someone I know? I have no idea. Based on IP, this appear to be a computer from library at College of Engineering. Interesting. Not me anyway. Hodja Nasreddin (talk) 20:06, 9 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It would be impossible for me leave this location (this diff) and arrive during six minutes to the College of Engineering to make edit about Srebrenitsa massacre (this diff). Hodja Nasreddin (talk) 20:21, 9 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
What makes you say it was a library computer? It would be normal for a university to be able to log in to the university network from home and the six minutes would make it even more suspicious. Nanobear (talk) 20:52, 9 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
See hostname here. I was not there for years. No, I can not remotely log in to this host. Hodja Nasreddin (talk) 21:28, 9 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

And what makes you think that it is Biophys? Just some IP edits from a nearby location are hardly conclusive. There many editors using college computers, and IP history shows many topics Biophys has not been interested in have been edited from it as well. This seems like some bad faith fishing to me... --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 21:52, 9 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That's amazing. Someone else edited article FSB two days ago from approximately my location, made two minor edits, but misspelled word "seige", exactly like me three years ago (I did it after Kuban Cossack [10]), and Nanobear finds the three-year-old diff immediately as a proof of my sockpuppetry that I did not do. Hodja Nasreddin (talk) 22:19, 9 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Now about this misspelling. I did it three years ago because I frequently copy-paste combinations of words by other users ("Moscow Theatre seige" by Kuban Cossack in this case [11]) instead of printing them myself. Note European spelling of "Theatre". I would always say "theater". Hodja Nasreddin (talk) 22:45, 9 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Have you ever misspelled this word like that before or after? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 22:50, 9 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I can not remember even if I ever used this word. Maybe that's because word "siege" ("osada" in Russian) is almost never used in Russian sources for describing these events. Hodja Nasreddin (talk) 23:15, 9 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That is weird indeed. I make a lot of typos; sometimes I don't catch them before I save the edit. If somebody was to claim that some IP is me due to a (rare, singular) shared typo and similar area of interests, I'd be puzzled, too - to say the least. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 23:53, 9 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
An IP who made this edit was definitely inexperienced, unless he made this typo on purpose: he did not check that his edit created a red wikilink, Beslan school seige. I always check such things, precisely because I frequently make misspellings. Hodja Nasreddin (talk) 23:58, 9 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Frankly, we are talking about two minor edits by an IP. His other edits were made on subjects I know nothing about. I would be stupid to edit subjects frequented by Nanobear [12] from an alternative account. And I certainly do not mind when someone calls murder of children a "massacre" or calls Basayev a "butcher". He was a butcher, and that was a massacre. None of diffs by Nanobear supports his claim that I vindicated Basyev or terrorists, but only that I followed our policies like WP:TERRORIST. Hodja Nasreddin (talk) 13:36, 10 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Clerk, CheckUser, and/or patrolling admin comments
[edit]
  • The evidence seems far too weak to me to even justify a CU, but I'll leave this open in case other clerks disagree. T. Canens (talk) 02:24, 10 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • After having a look at all the evidence, I too feel there is not enough evidence to do a checkuser, especially given the fact that performing a checkuser would tie the IP address to the user, which is not ideal under the privacy policy. I'm also inclined to decline a checkuser request here, but due to there being arbitration proceedings in effect, will defer to another clerk for input. • I see two clerks, another user, and now myself looking at the evidence is weak. Plus, 141.213.31.177 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) is unlikely to give us any good results as it's a University IP, and for all we know they could be two diff users with the same IP and same user agent. Time to close. -- DQ (t) (e) 02:22, 11 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
