Yanjin County (Chinese: 延津; pinyin: Yánjīn) is a county under the administration of the prefecture-level city of Xinxiang, in the north of Henan province, China.
Geography

[edit]Yanjin County is located at 35°10′N 114°36′E / 35.167°N 114.600°E, in the north of Henan. The county is situated in the Central Plains City Cluster on the north bank of the Yellow River. It is 37 km (23 mi) from Xinxiang to the west, 93 km (58 mi) from Zhengzhou to the south, 50 km (31 mi) from Kaifeng to the southeast, and 130 km (81 mi) from Anyang to the north. The area is 45.5 km (28.3 mi) long from north to south and 42.5 km (26.4 mi) wide from east to west, with a total area of 886 square kilometres (342 sq mi).[3]
Terrain and landforms
[edit]Yanjin County is located in the Yellow River basin. The entire area is composed of plains, with no mountains; the northern portion of the county has several rolling sand dunes.
Climate
[edit]Yanjin County is a humid continental monsoon climate (Köppen: Dwa, bordering on Cwa), with four distinct seasons, cold, dry winters and hot, humid summers. The annual average temperature is 14.1 °C (57.4 °F). July is the hottest month, with an average of 26.8 °C (80.2 °F). January is the coldest month, with an average of −0.4 °C (31.3 °F). The annual average precipitation is 5,842 mm (230.0 in), with most of the rainfall occurring during the summer and the winter months being the driest. The frost-free period is around 220 days, and the mean annual number of sunshine hours is 2,155 hours, with May being the sunniest month and January being the cloudiest.

Natural resources
[edit]Yanjin County is located in the Yellow River basin, with 200 million cubic metres of undeveloped state-owned sand dunes and sandy wastelands in the territory, and there is sufficient land for construction.[6]
Culture
[edit]Dapingdiao is one of the Han Chinese opera genres performed the five provinces of Central China, and belongs to the Bang Zi cadence system.[7] On 20 May 2006, Dapingdiao was approved by the State Council to be included in the first batch of the National Intangible Cultural Heritage list.[citation needed]
Erjiaxian[8] is also known as the "Wudayin". It is also one of the Han Chinese opera genres, and in 2008 was included the second batch of the National Intangible Cultural Heritage list.[citation needed]
