[edit]Inherited from Old Norse Álrekstaðir (name of the Viking age town once located on the northern border of modern Årstad). First part from *Álrekr (> Ulriken, Alrek), from al- (“all”) + rekr (“mighty”). Last part from staðir, plural of staðr.
