Inherited from Koine Greek παπάς (papás) / πάπας honorific for priests,[2] or Byzantine Greek παπᾶς (papâs),[3] from Ancient Greek πάππας (páppas, children's language for grandfather). Doublet of πάπας (pápas, the pope) Also see παππούς (pappoús, grandfather).
