[edit]From Proto-Hellenic *kʰehliyoi, from Proto-Indo-European *ǵʰesliyoy, from *ǵʰes-, whence χείρ (kheír)), as if meaning “full hand”. Cognates include Sanskrit सहस्र (sahásra) and Latin mīlle.
