Etymology
[edit]Relative noun (nisba) composed of عَوَار (ʕawār, “defect”) + ـِيَّة (-iyya), from the root ع و ر (ʕ-w-r) related to lacunae.

- 2015 December 20, “مجدي فتحي يكتب:الخسائر فى التأمين البحرى”, in Al-Burṣa[1]:
- يقصد بلفظ العوارية كل خسارة جزئية وهذا يعنى أن أى خسارة غير الخسارة الكلية تعتبر
- By the term average any partial loss is meant and this implies that any loss other than total loss is considered.
