Etymology

Borrowed from Aramaic נוקניק (nūqānīq), variant of לוקניק (lūqānīq), from Byzantine Greek λουκάνικον (loukánikon), λουκάνικα (loukánika), from Latin lūcānica (sausage from Lūcānia). Cognate with Greek λουκάνικο (loukániko), Classical Persian نَکَانَک (nakānak); influenced Hebrew נַקְנִיק (naqnīq).
