[edit]From the older form ܐܲܪܝܝܵܐ* (ʾaryəyā), from Aramaic אַרְיָא, from Proto-Semitic *ʔarway-; compare Hebrew אַרְיֵה (aryé) and Akkadian 𒀉𒄷 (arûm, “eagle, bird of prey”).
