[edit]Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘖𑘻𑘚𑘜𑘹 (jhoḍaṇe, “to batter; to whack”), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀛𑁄𑀟𑀇 (jhoḍaï, “makes leaves fall off a tree”) (compare Sanskrit छोटयति (choṭayati)).[1] Compare Hindustani جھورْنَا (jhornā) / झोरना (jhornā).
