From Pashto کندهار (Kandahār, Alexander, Alexandria), ultimately from Ancient Greek Ἀλεξάνδρεια (Alexándreia, Alexandria Arachosia), the city's ancient name. Doublet of Alexander, Alexandria, Alexandretta, Iskenderun, and Scandaroon.
