[edit]From earlier *blьskěti, from Proto-Balto-Slavic *bliskēˀtei, from Proto-Indo-European *bʰliǵ-sk-eh₁-ti, from *bʰel- (“to shine”). Baltic cognates include Lithuanian blizgėti.
