Etymology

I can't figure the right translation of the french etymology. The French Wiktionary gives I believe says this:

A simplification from the expression, Avoir un rat dans la tête , To have one's sweetheart in one's head, from when soldiers in World War Two would miss their target when they would think about their girlfriends when firing.

But rat as used for sweetheart is an expression, and actually means rat, so I'm not sure if it really says this:

A simplification from the expression, Avoir un rat dans la tête , To have a rat on one's head, from when soldiers in World War Two would miss their target when a rat would come by and jump on their heads.

I'll post the sweetheart one on the page, but if any french person knows that this actually means rat and not sweetheart, then they can change it.
