Template:cy-noun

From Wiktionary, the free dictionary

cy-noun

This template is designed for the lemma of all Welsh nouns.

Usage

Only use this template for the noun's lemma entry. For non-lemma forms, use as follows:

  1. For plurals, use {{head|cy|noun form}}.
  2. For mutated forms, use {{head|cy|mutated noun}}.

This template should be placed in Welsh noun sections, immediately following the ===Noun=== section header. It provides the inflection line for the entry. The template also automatically categorizes the entry in Category:Welsh nouns.

As with other Wiktionary inflection templates, please do not use subst:.

Parameters

This template requires two positional parameters. All nouns should have the two positional parameters. Regular nouns may have only the two positional parameters (in sequence), or they may include any of the named parameters (in any order) in addition to the two positional parameters. Compound nouns and nouns with more than one plural form require one or more of the named parameters in addition to the two positional ones.

If in doubt abut the gender only, omit the first positional parameter. When parameter {{{1}}} is omitted, the entry is added to Category:Requests for gender in Welsh entries. Someone else will then add the necessary parameters.

If in doubt about the plural, use {{head|cy|noun}} to generate the inflection line. Add {{attention|cy}} to identify the entry as needing attention from a Welsh speaker.

Positional parameters

For all nouns, include the following two positional parameters:

|1=
gender of the noun; accepted values are m, f, mf, mfbysense, p, m-p, f-p, mf-p, mfbysense-p
  • The value mfbysense is used for nouns referring to people or animals that are grammatically both masculine and feminine and where the grammatical gender reflects the underlying gender of the referent. If a term can be grammatically both masculine and feminine with no difference in meaning, use mf.
  • The plural values p, m-p, f-p, etc. are used for nouns whose base form has plural or collective meaning, e.g. moron (carrots).
|2=
plural form of the noun
  • For uncountable nouns, use a dash (-).
  • The special value au indicates that the plural is formed by adding au to the singular.
  • For nouns whose lemma is plural in meaning, this specifies the singulative form, e.g. moronen for the lemma moron (carrots).

Simple example 1 : brân (crow, raven) :

{{cy-noun|f|brain}}

brân f (plural brain)

Simple example 2 : migwrn (ankle) :

{{cy-noun|m|migyrnau}}

migwrn m (plural migyrnau)

Simple example 3 : cerddoriaeth (music) :

{{cy-noun|f|-}}

cerddoriaeth f (uncountable)

Simple example 4 : nofel (novel) :

{{cy-noun|m|au}}

nofel m (plural nofelau, not mutable)

Simple example 5 : moron (carrots) :

{{cy-noun|f-p|moronen}}

moron f (collective, singulative moronen)

Named parameters

Most nouns do not require these parameters. Compound nouns, nouns with more than one plural form and certain other nouns may require one or more named parameters, as follows:

|g2=, |g3=, ...
additional gender(s)
|head=, |head2=, ...
replaces the initial headword form; may be used to link components of a compound noun when the capitalization or mutation is different from the lemma form
|pl2=, |pl3=, ...
additional plurals
|sg2=, |sg3=, ...
additional singulatives, for plural-form nouns
|msg=, |msg2=, |msg3=, ...
masculine-specific singulatives, for plural-form nouns
|fsg=, |fsg2=, |fsg3=, ...
feminine-specific singulatives, for plural-form nouns
|f=, |f2=, ...
female equivalents of nouns referring to males
|m=, |m2=, ...
male equivalents of nouns referring to females
|dim=, |dim2=, ...
diminutives
|nomut=1
indicate that a normally mutable noun does not mutate
|mut=1
indicate that a normally immutable noun does mutate

The last two parameters control the presence or absence of non-mutable in the headword. This is normally displayed for nouns beginning with an immutable consonant: ch, f, h, j, l (but not ll), n, r (but not rh) or s. Use |mut=1 with such nouns to disable the non-mutable indication, and |nomut=1 with other nouns to enable it. Nouns that display the indication are placed into Category:Welsh non-mutable terms.
