Etymology

Inherited from Old Swedish andadräkt (and earlier andadrät). By surface analysis, ande (breath) +‎ dräkt (draw; pull). First attested in 1484.

Compare with Danish aandedræt, Norwegian andardraatt, anderdraatt, and Icelandic andardráttr, including Dutch ademtocht.
