Inherited from Ottoman Turkish باصدرمق (basdırmaḳ, to let or make press, to make or let printed, to overpower, to suppress),[1][2] from Ottoman Turkish باصمق (basmaḳ), morphologically bas- +‎ -tır +‎ -mak
