Afrikaans
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Dutch hebben, from Middle Dutch hebben, from Old Dutch hebben, from Proto-Germanic *habjaną, from Proto-Indo-European *keh₂p- (“to grasp”).
Pronunciation
[edit]Verb
[edit]hê (present het, present participle hebbende, past had, past participle gehad)
Usage notes
[edit]This verb is highly irregular in Afrikaans due to the fact that it has a different present form from its infinitive form. The present form is used as an active verb with a pronoun. This verb also has a rarely used preterite form, had.
