Reports indicate that Ayan Mukerji, who holds the intellectual property rights to the Brahmastra franchise and Astraverse, is reportedly in talks with Jio Studios to bankroll the upcoming films. The deal reportedly includes Brahmastra’s upcoming sequels as well as any possible spin-offs.
According to a report in Pinkvilla, Disney, who was also one of the main producers of Brahmastra, has decided to take a backseat from bankrolling Brahmastra. “Disney is in the mode of restructuring their content strategy in India. They have slowed down on acquisition for Disney+Hotstar too and are also taking it easy on film production. After several meetings over the last few months, Disney has decided to take a back seat from the Brahmastra franchise,” the report revealed.
The report further added that Disney has reportedly sold all Intellectual Property rights of the film to Ayan Mukerji. “That’s when Ayan decided to take charge. Brahmastra is a franchise dear to him and he didn’t want to let it go off his hands. He has a brought outline ready for the future of his Astra-Verse and him along with his hero, Ranbir Kapoor, are on the verge of clocking a mega multi-crore deal with Jio Studios for the Astra-Verse,” the report in Pinkvilla added.
Reportedly, Ayan Mukerji has big plans for his Astraverse and wants to make a Brahmastra: Dev vs Shiva as well. There are different spin-offs being planned for other characters in the Brahmastra films, and while Ayan Mukerji will be directing the Brahmastra films, the spin-offs will be helmed by other directors.
Well, it remains to be seen how the deal turns out to be.
