1. ALCANCE:
Descripción de la metodología propuesta para:
Encofrado.
Armado de acero de refuerzo.
Vaciado del concreto.
Corte de junta de construcción.
Curado del concreto.
2. REFERENCIAS:

The maximum spacing between the double ledgers should be 1/4" more than the nominal diameter
of the coil bolt or coil rod being used. For example: The spacing between double ledgers when
used with ½" diameter coil bolts or coil rods would be 1/2" + 1/4" = 3/4" maximum. When more
space is allowed between the ledgers, the ledgers may crush or the flat washers may deflect and
bend causing the formwork to fail.
The contractor shall install the overhang brackets, hangers and form materials in such a manner
that the exterior coil bolts or coil rods make a 45º ± 5º angle with the top surface of the bridge
beam.
Definitions:
Dead load is the weight of the reinforced concrete plus the weight of the forms.
Live load is any additional loads imposed during the process of construction, such as material
storage, workers and equipment.
Design load is the sum of the live load and dead load per square foot of deck form contact area.
Safe working load or SWL is the maximum load that should be applied to a Dayton Superior
bridge deck forming accessory product.
Factor of Safety is the ratio of the ultimate breaking strength of a product to its SWL.

C-49, C-49-D, C-49-S AND C-49 JR. BRIDGE OVERHANG BRACKETS
These Bridge Overhang Brackets are designed with maximum adjustability to meet the varied
bridge deck farming requirements on both structural steel and precast/prestressed concrete
girders.
BRACKET VERTICAL LEG ADJUSTMENT RANGE
C-49-S Bridge Overhang Bracket 14" to 28"
C-49 Bridge Overhang Bracket 30" to 50"
C-49-D Bridge Overhang Bracket 50" to 70".
C-49 JR. Bridge Overhang Bracket 16" to 28"
Each of these brackets can be mounted to steel beams, precast/prestressed concrete girders and
box beams with the appropriate hanger device. Each of the brackets can be easily and quickly
preset on the ground and then set in place as needed.
The C-49-S Bridge Overhang Bracket is the C-49 bracket, modified in the field by removing the
inner vertical tube and using only the outer tube as the vertical leg. In sorne cases, dueto
manufacturing tolerances, the back bolt, nut and spacer may have to be removed in arder far the
larger, outer tube to fit between the two channel members of the bracket's horizontal member.
The C-49-S Bridge Overhang Bracket is the ideal bracket to use on small steel or concrete
beams. On steel beams, a block of wood is placed on the top side of the bottom flange to act as a
bearing point far the bracket's diagonal member. When the C-49-S is used on either steel or
concrete beams, the vertical leg is allowed to run "wild" beyond the beam's bottom flange.
The C-49-D Bridge Overhang Bracket has all of the features of the C-49 bracket but has longer
vertical and diagonal legs far increased adjustment, which allows the bracket to be used on deep
structural steel plate girders, positioning the load from the diagonal member near the beam's
bottom flange. Moving the diagonal member load to the bottom flange area, helps reduce any
twisting and bending that might be induced into the beam during the construction process.
Bridge overhang brackets should be adjusted to proper grade during the normal "dry run"
operation. Typically, the overhang farms are set 1/4" to 3/8" above finished grade to compensate
far dead load deflection. DO NOT attempt an upward adjustment during the concrete pouring
operation dueto the heavy loads involved. Lowering the bracket during the concrete pour is
permissable.

BRACKETS
Diagonal Leg of all brackets has a SWL of 3,750 lbs. based on approx. factor of safety of 2 to 1.
As shown in the section view above, 3/4" O.O. tubing is placed over 1/2" diameter bolts to provide a 2
1/16" space between the two steel channel sections of the bracket's horizontal member.
VERTICAL ANO DIAGONAL LEGS are fabricated from electric resistance welded carbon steel tubing,
Type #1 A.W.H.R. (as welded hot-rolled steel), Grade 1010 per ASTM A-513 standards. Below are listed
the brackets tour leg members along with their outside diameter and wall thickness:
CONNECTION BOLTS and NUTS are galvanizad 1/2"-13 NC threaded meeting ASTM Standard A-449 or
SAE Standard J-429 Grade 5.
SECTION PROPERTIES
The "lugs" that protrude from each side of the Bolt Holder, bears against the bottom side of the
bracket's horizontal member and provides support to the bracket.
One Bolt Holder is shipped with each of the C-49 style bridge overhang brackets.
NG
Do not drill out a Bolt Holder to accept a larger
diameter bolt, as this could, on a later use, allow
the head of a 1/2" diameter bolt to pull through the
larger diameter hale allowing the bracket to fati
causing property damage, personal injury or death.
NEW STYLE BOLT HOLDER FOR USE WITH 1/2" COIL ROO AND BOLTS
The new style 2-Bolt Bolt Holder used in
the C-49, C-49-D, C-49-S and C-49-Jr.

to accept a 1/2" dia. coil threaded bolts
or coil rod. The 1/2" diameter coi! bolt is
the load carrying device that transfers the
load from the overhang bracket to the
45º exterior bridge deck hanger.
The Bolt Holder must be moved, far each
specific project's situation, so the 1/2" bolt
or rod is as clase to a 45º angle with

SELECTED OSHA SAFETY & HEALTH REGULATIONS FOR CONSTRUCTION
(For complete information see www.osha.gov)
1926.501(b){2)(ii) Each employee on a walking/working surface 6 feet or more above a lower level
where leading edges are under construction, but who is not engaged in the leading edge work,
shall be protected from falling by a guardrail system, safety net system, or personal fall arrest
system. lf a guardrail system is chosen to provide the fall protection, anda controlled access zone
has already been established for leading edge work, the control line may be used in lieu of a
guardrail along the edge that parallels the leading edge. The standard requires guardrail systems
and components to be designed and built to meet the requirements of 1926.502(b)(3), (4), and (5).
This Appendix serves as a non-mandatory guideline to assist employers in complying with these
requirements. An employer may use these guidelines.
1926.501(b)(2)(i) .... However, the guidelines do not provide all the information necessary to build
a complete system, and the employer is still responsible for designing and assembling these
components in such a way that the completed system will meet the requirements of
1926.502(b)(3), (4), and (5). Components for which no specific guidelines are given in this
Appendix (e.g., joints, base connections, components made with other materials, and
components with other dimensions) must also be designed and constructed in such a way
that the completed system meets the requirements of 1926.502.
(1) For wood railings: Wood components shall be minimum 1,500 lb-ft/in (2) fiber (stress grade)
construction grade lumber; the posts shall be at least 2" x 4" lumber spaced not more than 8 feet
apart on centers; the top rail shall be at least 2" x 4" lumber, the intermediate rail shall be at least
1" x 6". AII lumber dimensions are nominal sizes as provided by the American Softwood Lumber
Standards.
1926.502(b) "Guardrail systems." Guardrail systems and their use shall comply with the following
provisions:
1926.502(b)(1) Top edge height of top rails, or equivalent guardrail system members, shall be 42"
plus or minus 3" above the walking/working level. When conditions warrant, the height of the top
edge may exceed the 45" height, provided the guardrail system meets all other criteria of this
paragraph.
1926.502(b)(7) The ends of all top rails and midrails shall not overhang the terminal posts, except
where such overhang does not constitute a projection hazard.
8-13 Coil Nuts are available internally threaded with 1/2"-6 and 3/4"-4 1/2
threads. A 8-13-H Heavy Hex Style Coil Nut threaded with 3/4"-4 1/2 threads is
required to be used with the Dayton Superior Type 9-A Pres-Steel Hanger.
The B-14-A Adjustable Coil 8olt consists of a coil threaded rod with one fixed coil nut and one
free-running coil nut. The B-14-A is available with 1/2"-6 or 3/4"-4 1/2 coil threads and in 12", 16",
18", 20" and 24" standard lengths. The adjustable coil bolt is especially useful on bridge decks
where one size B-14-A bolt can service several different bolt length requirements.
The 8-42 8atter Washer is available far use with either 1/2" or 3/4"
diameter coil bolts or coil rod. Designed to allow bolts to be placed
at up to a 45 degree angle, yet maintain proper bearing. The bottom
side has multiply grips to aid in preventing slippage under load. Nail
hales permit nailing to the ledgers where required to prevent
movement. Far proper use, position the washer so that the gap
between the ledgers does not exceed the bolt diameter plus 1/4".
The 8-27 Coil Nut Washer combines a washer and nut into a one-piece
ductile unit. The B-27 washer is designed to spread bolt loads to double
ledger forming members. Nail hales are provided to secure the nut washer
to the ledgers, as required. Available with 1/2"-6 or 3/4"-4 1/2 interna!
threads for use with a 1/2"-6 or 3/4"-4 1/2 threaded coil bolts or continuous
threaded coil rods.
C-54 Extender
C-52
Guard Rail
Receptacle
The C-52 receptacle bolts securely to either the bridge overhang bracket and/or C-54 extender and
accepts 2x4 guardrail posts. Each C-52 receptacle ships with two 1/2"-13 NC x 3" long (ASTM
A325 or SAE 429 Grade 5) electro-galvanized bolts and nuts which are used to attach the guard
rail receptacle to the horizontal member of a C-49, C-49-D or C-49 JR. Bridge Overhang Bracket.
The C-54 Bridge Overhang Bracket Extender attaches to one side of the outboard end of the
overhang bracket's horizontal member to extend the usable working surface of the bracket. The
C-54 Extender and C-52 Guard Rail Receptacle are used when the overhang formwork is required
to extend beyond the end of the horizontal member of the bridge overhang bracket. The extender
is used to support walkway loads only. When the extender is used, each bracket is required to
have one extender and one C-52 Guard Rail Receptacle.
Each C-54 Bridge Overhang Bracket Extender ships with two 1/2"-13 NC x 1" long (ASTM A325 or
SAE 429 Grade 5) electro-galvanized bolts and nuts which are used to attach the C-52 receptacle
to the C-54 extender. The 1/2"-13 NC x 3" long bolts (shipped with the C-52 receptacle) are used
to attach the extender to the horizontal member of the bridge overhang bracket.
