DURABILIDAD
Lubrication System
A trochoid pump provides full pressure lubrication to rotating shafts and moving parts. Efficient lubrication
reduces friction and adds to durability and engine life.
Multiple-layer Bushings
The crankshaft, camshaft, rocker arm and rotating parts are supported by multiple-layer bushings. Oil grooves
on the inner faces of the bushings maintain an oil film on contact surfaces between shaft and bushing.
Rotational friction is eliminated. This method is most suitable to low speed, high load engines. The bushing
requires a smaller opening in the casing than roller bearings, adding to structural rigidity of the engine.

The crankshaft (9) converts the reciprocating motion of the piston into the rotating motion via the connecting
rod (3). The crankshaft of this engine is made of carbon steel.
Its journal and pin portions are induction hardened for improved wear resistance. The crank gear (10) is press-fitted
into the crankshaft to drive the cam gear and governor gear. To prevent unbalance during rotating motion, the
counterweights (2) are installed on to the crank arm.
Both the crankshaft journal and crankpin sections are provided with an oil galleries to feed engine oil to the
bearing for lubrication. The main bearings (8) that support the crankshaft journals are plated with tin and lead
alloy on the inside surface for better initial fitting. At both ends of the crankshaft, an oil seal (6) is provided to
prevent oil leakage. In addition, a crankshaft collar (7) threaded on its outer circumference is installed into the
crankshaft to form an oil return mechanism with the dry bearing. In other words, this engine uses a double oil
leakage prevention design, which also prevents entry of foreign material.

Since the piston is always subjected to high temperature and high pressure and reciprocates within the cylinder
liner, it must be lightweight, tough, heat resistant, wear resistant, and of little thermal expansion. For this reason,
the piston is made of Roex (aluminum alloy containing silicon). In this engine, a recess called cavity is provided
in the piston head. The mixture of fuel with air sent out from the carburetor attains a combustion in the combustion
chamber between the cavity and cylinder head.
This engine is equipped with four piston rings.
The top ring (1) is of a barrel-face type. The surface of the ring where it slides on the cylinder wall has a barrel
face to provide quick seating and prevent unusual wear and seizing. The second (2) and third (3) rings are a
taper-face type to provide a line contact with the cylinder wall for very quick seating, and good scraping of oil
on downstroke and excellent in air tightness. Also the third ring is inner-cut ring, further good scraping of oil. The
oil ring (4) is of the bevel cutter type. Since its upper and lower ends of the sliding surface are bevel cut to
assure higher surface pressure, this oil ring is good scraping of oil. Further, the top, second and oil rings are
also hard chromium plated on their contact surfaces for improved wear resistance.

the connecting rod body and cap (2) are I.D. machined after matching, matching must not be changed. (The
same number is marked on each.) The crankpin bearing (5) is of the split, fit-in type, using copper-lead alloy.
The surface is tin plated for better quick seating. The piston pin bushing (4) is made of lead bronze which has
the most excellent shock resistance, load resistance and heat resistance. The surface is tin plated.
The undersized crankpin bearing is also available for reduced dimensions due to crankpin wear.

Force lubrication by an oil pump (Trochoid type) (5) is used for the lubricating system. Lubricating engine
oil in the crankcase (1) is pumped through the oil strainer (3) by the oil pump. After the pressure of the oil
discharged by the oil pump is regulated to 147 to 392 kPa, (1.5 to 4.0 kgf/cm2, 21 to 57 psi) (at engine rated
speed) by the oil pressure indicator (10), it is fed through the crankcase oil gallery to reach each section.
The lubricating oil is fed to the oil gallery in the camshaft (4), lubricates the camshaft bushing.
The lubricating oil is fed to the crankshaft journal portion (7), and then lubricates the crankpin portion (8)
through the oil gallery in the crankshaft. It also lubricates the connecting rod small end portion (2) after passing
through the oil gallery in the connecting rod.
The other oil lubricates the rocker arm (9) through the oil pipe and oil gallery of the cylinder head.
The piston, tappet, timing gears and other parts are splash-lubricated by the crankshaft.
The oil pressure indicator (10) allows the pressure with its inside mark to be monitored.

The oil pump in this engine is a trochoid pump which contains of an inner rotor (1) and outer rotor (2). Inside
the pump body, the 4-teeth inner rotor is eccentrically engaged with the 5-teeth outer rotor. The inner rotor is
driven by the camshaft, which in turn rotates the outer rotor.
When the inner rotor rotates, the outer rotor also rotates in the same direction. Since the two rotors differ in
teeth number, and centering, the space between teeth is variant as shown in the figure. At position “A”, there
is little space between the teeth in the inlet port. As the rotor rotates towards position “B”, the space between
teeth becomes larger, creating a negative pressure which sucks in oil. Outside the inlet port, as shown in position
“C”, the space between teeth becomes gradually smaller, and oil pressure increases. At position “D”, oil is
discharged from the outlet port.

The vapor system is equipped for this engine as a cooling system. This system maintains engine temperature
without using a thermostat or rubber hose connections. The condenser (l) acts as a condensing unit, condensing
steam that would normally boil in the crankcase returning the condensation to the crankcase.
In order to prevent the formation of pressure or a vacuum in the condenser, a vent is made in the top end of
condenser. Be sure this vent is kept open for passage of air. The water cap (4) is attached to the cap support
on the condenser base, to release the condenser internal pressure, if the vent is plugged. The cooling water
absorbs combustion heat of the cylinder head (6) and cylinder liner (7), and friction heat generated from moving
parts and then, the cooling water evaporates, when it exceeds the boiling point, which rises into the condenser
and is condensed by the cooling action of the cooling fan (3), then returns to the crankcase. The water level
switch (water level meter) is incorporated into the cooling system. If the cooling water should drop to a dangerous
level. The water level switch will ground the ignition circuit and stop the engme. In case anti-freeze is used for
the cooling water, the ratio of the anti-freeze to the cooling water is 20 to 80% in summer and 40 to 60% in
winter. When replenishing, fill the crankcase with only water.

• Operation
(A)
When the engine is cranked, lowered pressure is communicated
to upper side of diaphragm (2) through passages (1), as piston
descends. As a result, the atmospheric pressure (lower side
of diaphragm) pushing upward on the diaphragm lifts it
against the downward pressure of the metering spring (4).
Since the diaphragm (2), gas metering valve (3) and plate (7)
are assembled as one unit, gas passage opening (gas metering
valve opening) and air passage opening (between plate (7)
and plate (8)) are in response to the diaphragm operation.
(a) Consequently, when the diaphragm is pushed upward, gas
and air are flowed in the carburetor and its mixture into the
cylinder.
When stopping the engine, diaphragm is pushed downward
by the downward pressure of metering spring. Because the
lowered pressure is not communicated to the upper side of
0120F015 diaphragm. Therefore both air and gas passages are closed.

• Funcionamiento

The governor unit functions to control the engine speed automatically according to the change in load applied
to the engine, thus maintaining the constant engine speed RPM. The governor for this engine uses a centrifugal
mechanical governor.
• Low speeds to high speeds
When the speed control lever (12) is shifted in the direction C, the governor lever 1 (9) is pulled in the direction
E by the action of the governor spring (10). The carburetor throttle lever (1) coupled to the governor mechanism,
moves in the direction A, in which the throttle valve opens. At this time, since the engine is running, the centrifugal
force acts on the governor weight (8), which moves in the direction H, and the engine runs at a certain speed
at the poi nt where the governor spri ng (10) tension and governor weight's centrifugal force are well balanced.
If the load is increased, the engine speeds down and the centrifugal force of the governor weight becomes
smaller, so that the throttle lever (1) is moved in the direction A where the carburetor throttle valve opens from
the previous balanced position to restore the original speed range. In this way, the engine speed is automatically
controlled for the constant speed.

(1) CRANKING SYSTEM
SISTEMA DE ARRANQUE
The cranking system is composed of the starter (2), relay (1) and
starter switch (3). The battery is not standard equipped. However,
the engine is designed to start up with a 12 volt battery installed
on a car or truck. The engine con be also started by using the
starter handle. When the engine is started with the starter, the
release switch (6) must be kept depressed until the engine starts
and the oil pressure gauge (8) circuit is open. When the engine oil
pressure is less than 49kPa. (0.5 kgf/cm2, 7psi) or the cooling
water quanlity is below LOW level of the water level meter, the
engine is stopped automatically.
When the starter switch (3) is pushed ON, the current from the
battery (4) magnetizes the coil of the relay (1) and attracts the
switch within the relay, causing it to turn ON. At this time the current
from the battery flows directly into S terminal of the starter, thus
rotating the engine. When the engine is cranked, the alternator
driving gear installed on the camshaft is driven, thus starting the
altenator to generator power. When the magnet button press-fitted
in the flywheel passes above the pick-up con (11), the pick-up coil
senses the ignition timing, and when large current flows into the
ignition coil (9), sparks are given off from the spark plugs (10),
thereby starting the engine.

The ignition system consists of the alternator, fullwave rectifier, pick-up coil, ignition coil, spark plug and others.
The function of each unit is as follows:
• Alternator: Generates alternating current.
• Full-wave rectifier: Converts alternating current generated by the alternator into direct current.
• Pick-up coil: Senses the ignition timing.
• Ignition coil: Generates high-tension voltage required for ignition.
• Spark-plug: Flashes sparks between electrodes to burn mixed gas.
The alternator provides an AC output which is rectified to DC by the full-wave rectifier, and stored in the capacitor
until the magnet button passes the pick-up coil, thus turning on the SCR switching device. This discharges the
capacitor into the primary of the ignition coil, which steps up the voltage to fire the spark plug. The shutdown
lead is connected to the charged side of the storage capacitor. The method used for grounding out the ignition
is to short the shutdown lead to ground by means of a safety device.
SCR: Silicon Controlled Rectifier
