Circular-Flow Diagram
1. Households and individuals gain income from construction
2. Area businesses lose revenue during construction due to decreased access and reduced visibility of signage.
3. The national government might contribute funds to expand larger roads like interstates, but state and local governments are responsible for funding other projects. Law enforcement have to respond more often to collisions because of lane changes and reduced visibility during construction.
4. There is minimal effect on the rest of the world. Design or engineering services might be outsourced to a foreign company and some equipment may be imported.
5. There is an increase in demand for construction materials & labor, and products like traffic cones or concrete dividers. To fund projects, the government has to secure a large amount of money through loans from banks and firms.

Impact
1. Positive impacts of widening roadways include temporarily reduced traffic congestion, less damage to vehicles from potholes, increased pedestrian & driver safety, and creation of jobs during construction. Negative impacts include decreased revenue for businesses along roadways, increased traffic congestion, and reduced safety during construction.
2. Members of my family and community seem to agree that expansion of some roadways is absolutely necessary as a short-term fix, but construction makes the situation much worse until it's finished. For example, my family and I drive on East Colonial Drive on a regular basis. Since construction to expand it from four to six lanes has begun, we avoid it as much as possible because of the poor condition of the road ( potholes, bumps, etc.) and it has even more traffic than before.
