Unable to install Excel Add In properly or access Excel

Hi,

I am a beginner to using UI Path and hoping to work with the tool for my master’s thesis. The process I am looking to automate for this involves extracting data from Excel. However, when trying to download the excel add in the below appeared.

After this the Excel Add in is still indicated as installed. However when I try to use the ‘Indicate in Excel feature’ or try to run a simple automation the following appears.

Something went wrong with .
Activity Use Excel File (Excel Application Card) failed:

Error opening workbook. If Excel is installed, run the ‘Repair Tool for Microsoft Office Interop’ from the Tools tab on the Home screen. Unable to cast COM object of type ‘System.__ComObject’ to interface type ‘Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Application’. This operation failed because the QueryInterface call on the COM component for the interface with IID ‘{000208D5-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}’ failed due to the following error: Error loading type library/DLL. (0x80029C4A (TYPE_E_CANTLOADLIBRARY)).

For reference I am just starting on the course

  • Build Your First Automation with StudioX (v2022.10).

I also tried all of the options on the following page:
Studio - Excel Add-in (uipath.com).

@eoghan.corry

Welcome to the community

  1. Is the office licensed?
  2. Try to reinstall office if it is possible for you
  3. IS OFFICE 2013 + as it does not support older

Also here is a detailed guide…if repair tool doesnt work automatically

Hi @Anil_G

Reinstalling office seemed to do it. I needed the 64 bit version of office when before I only had the 32 bit version.

Thanks for the advice

Indicating in Excel worked for the weekend (when I did not completely shut down my laptop and I had reinstalled office). However I shut down all applications last night, and when I went to continue learning this morning the same problem is now occurring.

For reference,
Yes the office is licensed.
it was the latest version of office 365, 64 bits that I downloaded.
Also I downloaded Studio X.

Lastly, when I tried to uninstall and install the Excel add in I now get this notification again.

If anyone has any recommendations that would be great.

After having tried for hours, I found a solution that solved the problem for me.
I downloaded Download Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant from Official Microsoft Download Center (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=100607) and ran that program. Be patient, one of the steps lasted for 20 minutes.
