that you see in the 8 is where that tiny bit of die sticking up chipped off.
it's called a die chip, these can be considered errors, but yours is not dramatic enough to make it worth more than 1 cent.
forgive the angst. we've had "i'm a newbie, help me" trolls lately.

There is some sort of anomaly occurring on the coin in and around the date area. Not quite sure if it is a die chip or bubbles between the zinc and copper plating or both!. It is not a D as the mint marks are added to the dies during creation and not hand stamped.5 -

Send it to PCGS and get it graded. Obviously a nice coin. Pay for "error" service and they will let you know what it is.
good luck,

What others have said....
Die chip, and/or plating bubbles. There is no D mintmark in the date, How would that happen? If you think you have an error it helps to visualize how it could have happened. For some situations you will soon realize that an error is not possible.
But, for 1 cent it is a cheap educational example if you wanted to hold on to it.
Keep looking - there is worthwhile stuff out there.

Looks like a minor die chip on the 8. It's not valuable but stick it in a 2x2 and hold onto it, you might find others with a further progressed chip.

It's always good to check, Mr_j. Never know what you may find! However, you will have much future luck and positive response her if you will do a few simple things:
1) Make sure what you are asking about is stated clearly in your first post.
2) Crop your photos to: a. At least the outer diameter of your coin, and b. To isolate the suspected area of error.
3) Try to orient your photos in a rational way. Sideways, upside down, weird angles - if there's no reason to show the photos at an odd angle, DON'T. If you don't know how to, learn. For proper orientation, you can use the PCGS Photograde pages as examples.
Welcome, and keep coming back.

What's your point?
Do agree that is a D mint mark struck on the year?
Throw away lines often ring true.
Im sorry im just kind a new collector so just getting some knowledge...i didnt get that about "throw away lines often ring true"?was that a error D mint mark or no....
Thanks for helping me out..
I don't see a D. I see some disturbance inside the loops of the 8, but the photo isn't clear or in enough focus to see what it is. Could be a scratch or gouge in the die.

Very nice penny!
Did you happen to pick up some of the 2017 of the 225 anniversary set with the penny that has the enhanced penny. Very nice and pretty I think they run about 25 bucks now. They made a bunch of them but neat penny! Here is the link.
The 225th Anniversary Enhanced Uncirculated Coin Set™ contains 10 coins with enhanced uncirculated finishes, each bearing the “S” mint mark of the United States Mint at San Francisco.

AUandAG was just joking
It's worth 1 cent. It's not worth the trouble to even put it on ebay much less shell out mega bucks to get it graded.
Sorry, no offence meant, I meant he made a quick remark as to what it is and was right. Try buying some junk silver and looking through that. Keep it up, you never know what you will find.
Tnx chrish821 for some tip and tricks...
For future reference here is a 2018 from Denver to compare:

I'd guess the lack of detail on the hair, ear, bow tie is due to excessive die wear? The base of the bust is fuzzy but the VDB is large and bold.
I'd guess that when you are trying to make cents as cheaply as possible, you squeeze more and more usage from the dies before replacing.
I've gotten OBW fresh quarters that have nicely(?) raised flow lines all over the field
Then there's the spotting.
Embarrassingly bad.
@Mr_j06....Welcome aboard.... Your cent has a die chip in the date... no numismatic value. I suggest you buy a RedBook and a Cherry Pickers Guide...since you are new to collecting, these will be a tremendous aid to you when looking at coins. Good luck, Cheers, RickO
It would be more beneficial to post your photos of your coins in the proper format - not upside down or sideways.. etc.
