Wiring in head unit - bit of help?

Looking for some help on this one. Looking at fitting this Alpine unit in to an Astra H and trying to avoid paying someone to do it (again). I've installed my own Alpine in to my own car as well as the last car I had but what the last guy has done has thrown me.

I actually had it fitted years ago but we ended up taking it out as the bluetooth didn't work. Test ran it in my own car last year (just connected, didn't fit it) & while I didn't have the radio working, the bluetooth seemed to work fine.
The Astra is my wifes car & circumstance change means I'll be using it more myself which also means I want bluetooth & iPod connectivity - so back in it goes.

Now one of the issues we had last time is that the clock on the Astra H doesn't work with an aftermarket head unit, so when the clocks go back, the time is out.
Apparently you need to have the Connects2 steering wheel adapter to be able to fix this problem. Autoleads wont work.
I'm going to guess that this one is the correct one taken from this page. I'd contact them to be sure as there's that many.

Anyway, when I look at how the last guy had it wired up...

What is that green circled thing?

Not only that but I see no steering wheel control adapter in this setup, yet when he had installed it, the steering wheel controls actually worked.
In my old car I had an Autoleads adapter and don't see that here.
I bought a Connects2 for my current car (haven't yet fitted it tbh) and that's not here either.

So how did this work with steering wheel controls yet there's no adapter?

To move on, I'm assuming

top red circle - goes where the arrow points. Should be pretty obvious as it fits.
top yellow circle - no idea what this black thing is.
bottom red circle - connects to the car plug that goes in to the original head unit.
green circle - just mentioned.
bottom yellow circle - goes where the arrow is pointing.

BUT

as I said, I need a connects 2 adapter in there somewhere in order to be able to alter the clock on the dash (for any - why bother with it comments, don't bother. Answer is because I want to).

Do I buy a connects 2 adapter, connect it to the 2 plugs circled in red at the bottom and then the other side of the connects 2 adapter have some kind of wiring (not sure what i'm looking for) which then connects to the car?

Advice please.

The two 8 pin connectors that connect to the car loom are to the ISO standard, one is for the speakers, the other is for power etc. The standard tor the power connector leaves pins 1,2 and 3 for the manufacturer's designation, the other 5 are to the ISO standard.
If the Blue cable in your green circle is connected to pin 5 of the power  ISO connector, that item is likely to be an aerial amplifier, as pin 5 is a switched output.
Some manufacturers use pins 1,2 or 3 for the steering wheel controls, some don't, which may explain that problem.
Can't help with the clock problem I'm afraid.

The blue wire (which once it's in that booted red connector thing changes to a blue & white wire) ends up in hole #7.

Your reply may have told me but if it did then it's gone over my head & I've missed it totally.

    Basically I want
    1) to put this in the Astra H.
    2) have it working (obviously)
    3) with the connects2 steering wheel control adapter as part of the install because....

...it (apparently) sorts this out (as well as giving you steering wheel controls).
