The grave site of Francis H. "Specs" Smith, first superintendent of VMI and spiritual founder of Sigma Nu Fraternity, is recognized by the Fraternity as one of its six sacred shrines.

Lemons are not believed to be his favorite fruit. Jackson was known to eat lemons in the field. Many accounts have him eating lemons at various battles. Jackson was very into nutrition.
