The state of Utah has no shortage of fun family activities. Utah is home to many indoor and outdoor attractions that are child-friendly.
Three summer-time activities are featured here. Tracy Aviary is an educational indoor experience. Raging Waters is entirely outdoors. Finally, Wheeler Farm is mostly outdoors, but some events and exhibits are inside the various buildings.
Fun for Children: Indoor Activities at Tracy Aviary
Tracy Aviary is a local and exotic bird habitat in Liberty Park, on 1100 South 900 East, near the center of Salt Lake City, Utah. They host bird shows twice daily at scheduled times and three times on Saturdays. Activities in the Avian Alcove are scheduled between the bird shows. These can be anything from arts and crafts to story time. Those are included in the cost of admission.
Above and beyond the regular schedule, feeding times cause further excitement. For an additional fee small groups can watch the birds get fed. Pelicans are only fed once a day, but the exotic Amazonian birds eat five times daily. Another extra event is special art activities available on Saturdays, after the one o’clock bird-show. Tracy Aviary’s website has printable activities for kids to bring in on their visit.
Outdoor Fun for Kids and Adults at Raging Waters
Raging Waters is an outdoor water park on 1200 West 1700 South, Salt Lake City. It has discounted admissions on certain days, so be sure to check the calendar on the Raging Waters website for details. The park caters to a variety of age groups and makes a good family destination.
Toddlers and young children would enjoy the dinosaur bay. It’s a shallow pool with a playground built on top of it. Older children and adults may enjoy the 11 different water slides. Lastly, anyone who can swim could benefit from the large wave pool or windy, river-like pool that runs through the park. Tube rentals cost extra so expect to spend an additional $5 per person.
Educational and Unique Attractions at Wheeler Historic Farm
Wheeler Historic Farm is a free attraction for children and families. It is located on 900 East and just North of 6600 South in Murray, Utah. They have outdoor and indoor exhibits of animals and historic farm equipment. This spot is perfect for family picnics, with an abundance of tables towards the entrance, as well as along the walking paths. A creek runs through the farm and a pond lies towards the front entrance.
The general store sells bags of duck feed. Maintain a safe distance, because these ducks are used to humans and will walk right up to small children. Wheeler farm also offers tours, hay rides, and cow milking for a fee. Special events are hosted there, usually around the holidays. The festival of lights takes place close to Christmas and large scale egg hunts happen around Easter.
Utah’s Salt Lake County is packed with things to do and see. Tracy Aviary, Raging Waters and, Wheeler Historic Farm are only three of the activities for children and families in the summer-time. Utah is also home to many winter activities, as well as, museums, national parks, hiking and bike trails, lakes, and several other water parks.
