Rockstar Boss Says GTA 6 Is "Way Bigger" And "Way Better" Than Fans Ever Thought

Grand Theft Auto 6 is easily one of the most anticipated games on the 2025 radar. The next installment in Rockstar's blockbuster action-adventure franchise is currently slated to release late next year, but we haven't seen much of the game aside from a teaser trailer released last December.

Many fans were eagerly awaiting a new trailer to drop this month on the one-year anniversary of GTA 6's initial reveal, but Rockstar has remained silent. Speaking to Conner Mather, Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick addressed the lack of updates while teasing that GTA 6 is even bigger and better than anyone could have ever thought.

"Our teams are focused on what's new that you haven't even thought about," Zelnick said. "You thought you were anticipating this thing but this is way bigger and way better and more exciting and more beautiful than you could have possibly thought of."

Summing up how he feels about the game, Zelnick used descriptors like "extraordinary," "breathtaking," and "worth waiting for."

And waiting is something Grand Theft Auto fans have definitely gotten used to. It's been 12 years since the launch of Grand Theft Auto 5, but Rockstar confirmed development on GTA 6 back in February 2022. But it wasn't until December 2023 that we got our first proper look at the game when Rockstar shared the first official trailer and initial details.

Grand Theft Auto 6 will take us to the state of Leonida, a fictionalized version of Florida and home to the neon-soaked streets of Vice City, a representation of Miami. The game follows a criminal duo: Lucia, the series's first female protagonist (if you don't count the pixelated blobs featured in the Game Boy Color version of Grand Theft Auto 2 in 2000 and optional playable female characters in Grand Theft Auto Online); and a male character whose name we currently do not know.

As you can see in the trailer above, Grand Theft Auto 6 will parody contemporary American culture with satirical depictions of social media and influencer culture. And, of course, recreations of iconic Florida memes.

The story of Grand Theft Auto 6 is said to be inspired by the adventurous duo of Bonnie and Clyde. The trailer depicts Lucia as a prison inmate. Towards the end of the trailer, we see Lucia and her male companion on the run from the cops.

Rockstar describes GTA 6 as the "most immersive evolution of the Grand Theft Auto series yet." The first trailer certainly lived up to the high expectations, but fans are understandably eager for more. In the words of Zelnick, it will be "worth waiting for."
