This command-line tool provides firmware management for Focusrite audio interfaces using the Scarlett2 USB protocol, which includes these series:
- Scarlett 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Gen
- Clarett USB and Clarett+
- Vocaster
Available operations:
reboot— reboot the devicereset-config— reset to default configurationerase-firmware— reset the device to factory firmwareupdate— update the device's firmware
To use this utility, you'll need the firmware itself, plus a kernel
with a recent-enough version of the snd_usb_audio module.
- Linux Kernel 6.8 includes the Scarlett2 driver with firmware update
support as part of the
snd_usb_audiomodule for all supported interfaces except Vocaster (which should arrive in 6.10)
OR
- The latest version of the Scarlett2 driver (with firmware update and
Vocaster support) is available at
https://github.com/geoffreybennett/scarlett-gen2/releases — this is
a replacement
snd_usb_audiokernel module which you can build against any running kernel 5.15–6.8
Device firmware should be downloaded from
https://github.com/geoffreybennett/scarlett2-firmware and placed in
/usr/lib/firmware/scarlett2 or a subdirectory firmware relative to
the binary.

On Fedora, you'll need these packages:
sudo dnf -y install alsa-lib-devel openssl-devel
On OpenSUSE:
sudo zypper in alsa-devel libopenssl-devel
On Ubuntu:
sudo apt -y install make gcc pkg-config libasound2-dev libssl-dev
To build & install:
make
sudo make install
Usually, just scarlett2 update is all you need.
Run scarlett2 help and scarlett2 about for more information.
