This commit fixes all issues with cocoa pods 1.0 and onwards on pod install for the sample project + update recommended settings for the project in Xcode 7.3.1.
This means project now runs, able to run pod install (for development purposes) and is useful again.
This was tested also with the GM of Xcode 8.0 (although did not run update recommended settings on the project from Xcode 8 as it's not final)
