Harris had made an embarrassing scene during dinner. Now she's at the center of a crime scene?and Eve is more than ready to get out of her high heels and strap on her holster, to step into the role she was born to cop. About the Author Under the pseudonym J.D. Robb, Nora Roberts published her first Eve Dallas novel in 1995. Celebrity in Death takes us back into a calmer world after the high drama of New York to Dallas. It is still a great read with lots of police work and an intriguing story.

All our favourite characters are on board and it is great to have Peabody back to provide all the lovely humour that comes from putting her and Eve into the same vehicle. Eve is maybe a little softer, a little more introspective, following her huge emotional upheavals in the last book and we get to see this several times in her interactions with Roarke. There are just so many quotable lines in their dialogue - so beautiful.

I read this in one afternoon with no effort at all. It was fun, stress free, interesting and entertaining. What more to ask for?

As always, I’m impressed with the fact I’m at book #34 and love everything about the characters and story line that JD Robb has written! I always feel like I’m coming home to friends and family when I read about the gang! Each book is a different murder case, and somehow the author keeps the cases fresh and exciting!

Of course all I have to say is Roarke! Those of you that have fallen in love with him will know exactly how I feel about that man!!! Him and Eve have the best relationship, and I love reading about their loyalty and love for one another! Now their love extends to their friends as well, and I love them all too!

A stand up fabulous series that may take a large commitment but it is so worth it.... I promise!!

Loved it so much! ;)

Eve & Roarke are the BEST! <3

“Got you now,” he murmured, nipping lightly at her shoulder. “A bit of a tickle and you turn into a girl.”
“You’re looking for trouble.”
“Oh, that I am, and as you’re all naked with girlish squeals under me, I think I can find it.”
“We’ll see who squeals, pal.” She caught his earlobe, not so lightly, between her teeth.
“That was a yelp,” he claimed. “And a manly one.”
She levered up, so he used the momentum to roll again, once, twice, until they ended up in the same position but across the bed.
“You’re outweighed, Lieutenant. And outmuscled.” He gripped her hands, drew them over her head. “Might as well give it over.”
He lowered his mouth to take her, and the sound she made now was pure pleasure. Her body went soft beneath his while the sole of her foot slid up to stroke his leg.
The next he knew he was on his back, her knee at his balls, her elbow at his throat. Her eyes glinted down into his.
“Weight and muscle fall beneath agility.”
“You’re a slippery one, you are.”
“Damn right, so you might as well give it over.” Now she lowered her mouth, then stopped a teasing breath away, drew back, teased in for a sampling nip, then another before she covered his mouth with hers.
“Who’s a girl?”
“You’re mine.” His hands glided down her back, around and up to her breasts. “You’re my girl.”
“Sap,” she said, but in a little sigh as she gave him her lips again.

She’d never been anybody’s girl, had never wanted to be. It had always seemed a weak term to her, one of submission and vulnerability. But with him, it was sweet and foolish, and just exactly right.

I will never tire of this series. Nope. Never. I just love Eve and Roarke and all the others. How J.D. Robb does it I haven’t a clue. I am kind of happy in one way being late to this party. I never have to wait for the next one to come out!!

A good friend just said to me that I will probably finish this series by the end of the year. I panicked for a minute thinking what am I going to do without Eve, Roarke and the whole gang. But….phew…..I have lots of .5’s to read. 😊

I listened to the audio for most of this one. I absolutely love Susan Ericksen. I think she does a fabulous job with these books and the characters. Especially Peabody. There were some funny moments with her.

Celebrity in Death didn’t have the same level of action or gruesome crime scene stuff as many of the others but with Eve’s cynicism and annoyance, Peabody’s natural humor and Roarke’s awesomeness it was still a great read!!!

A very good installment in the Death series. Eve is completely authentic as a tough police woman, but I like that Roarke sees her in a more intimate way as his wife. Yet he embraces her as a strong woman and stands by her side. That's a good man! The mystery was good, although it did drag a bit towards the end. Still, it was an excellent book despite that fact.

Overall rating: 4.5/5.0 stars.

This one started out pretty fun because we have our favorite characters meeting their actor counterparts who are playing them in a movie about one of the earlier cases. As usual, it's all fun and games until someone murders Peabody... well, fake Peabody.

more like an evil twin

Fake Peabody was such a jerk that pretty much everyone wanted to kill her. I kinda wanted to kill her. And, we all know how unusual it is for me to want to kill a book character.

How dare you, Mittens! You don't know me! You don't know my life!

When McNab sees fake-Peabody dead, he kind of freaks out a little. This leads to complete an utter sweetness and happy-hearted shipping joy. If we get scenes like this from him being scared, I say we take him to a haunted house.

On the down side, once all of the early fun of the actors settled down, and the Peabody/McNab scene ended, the book got a bit draggy. It was a lot of repetitive interviews and information. There was also no excitement - like chases, car crashes, fight scenes... So, it wasn't really my favorite, but the books are always good - even when they aren't great.

Brilliantly written, good suspense, intrigue till the end.
TBH I didn't like how much they trashed the victim... she was an evil person, but it was slightly exaggerated.

I flove Eve, such a strong woman!

I never knew how much I looked forward to the chase scenes, shootings, stabbing and all the other excitement that permeated these books, until I read this one. I never thought I would find myself saying that an Eve Dallas book could be boring, but this one was.

Eve, Roarke and Dehlia have been invited to the party that is celebrating the movie (vid) "The Icove Agenda". While there, nasty words are exchanged between the actress playing Peabody and almost everyone who is at the party. Naturally, she is later found dead under suspicious circumstances. Everyone is a suspect...

There is a lot of leg-work for Eve and Dehlia, a lot of people to interview and that's about it. J.D. did do the usual and toss in plenty of red herrings, but I just didn't care. I kept trying to force myself not to page to the back of the book to see who really dunnit.

Oh and I did want to mention to the proofreaders and editors, that they may want to rethink using the abbreviation 'anal' for the word 'analyze' or 'analysis'...just sayin'!

Book 34 and still as good as the previous books in the series. The crime might not have been as gruesome as in other books but it still kept me interested.

Eve. I adore her. I love her sassiness, her spirit, her sexiness, her independence, her attitude in a "male dominated" world. Most of her colleagues are men.

Roarke. what can I say that I haven't already said before. Sexy, adores "his darling Eve", always ready to drop what he is doing to help her out. He is perfect.

Peabody is as fabulous as always.

I love Feeney too. I love all the secondary characters in this series.

Even Summerset is growing on me ... sort of.

As I’ve talked about many times before on the blog, the In Death books are my all time favorite series. The newest installment, Celebrity in Death by J.D. Robb, is no exception! It releases today, and fans of the series should definitely expect an awesome addition to Eve & Roarke’s adventures.

Now, as long time fans know, these books are oftentimes pretty much the same. I obviously don’t mean that as an insult – I just mean that we basically know what to expect by now. J.D. Robb definitely gave me a few things I wasn’t expecting this time around though.

One of my favorite things about Celebrity in Death is that it seemed to be funnier than previous installments. There were more laugh-out-loud moments with all the characters. I definitely loved having the humor ramped up.

Also, there was an adorable scene from Peabody’s point of view while home with McNab. Oh man, so cute you guys. You will melt. We don’t get enough from her eyes!

The mystery/suspense was strong in Celebrity in Death as well. Figuring out the who this time around wasn’t nearly as fun as figuring out the how and why. Eve has to dig pretty deep to come up with her case this time and I thought it was crazy fascinating! Lots of curve balls.

Seeing our beloved characters surrounded by the movie stars playing them in the Icove Agenda movie was super fun as well. Especially Eve, since she spurns all the attention. Seeing Roarke’s counterpart cracked me up since he was in no way close to being as swoonworthy as the real thing.

The one bummer for me in Celebrity in Death was a lack of Whitney (Eve’s boss, the police Commander). He didn’t even get to dress anybody down, y’all! I love it when that man yells at people.

Anyway…I loved this installment to the In Death series! J.D. Robb better keep cranking these books out to fill my never-satisfied craving for more Eve and Roarke!

SUMMARY (50 word or less)

J.D. Robb (aka Nora Roberts) wrote another stellar tale in the Eve Dallas series (in Death series). This story was intended to be less heavy than the last and a slightly more than average case. I wasn’t blow away by it, but I enjoyed this one well enough.

June 27, 2019 - Rereading for group buddy read!

One of the very few In Death books that read "slow" to me. Love the relationship scenes - Eve & Roarke, Eve & Peabody - they were awesome, as always. The suspense side just lacked the intensity I'm accustomed to with this series, as I didn't feel the usual urgency during the hunt & capture of the killer. Still, Peabody in pink cowboy boots & Eve wearing Roarke's gift of a magic coat makes it a worthwhile read! Love the characters in this series!

Okay, I know that every book after NY2D is anticlimatic, but I did enjoy this one. A very different twist/story line and isn't that what it's all about?

Some good banter between Peabody and Eve - and we learn about Peabody's new pink cowboy boots!!!

Nadine plays a bigger role not only as Eve's friend but a very good investigative reporter and interviewer - really liked her role in that.

I also liked where Eve actually contacted Summerset to book a "flight" for some cops to pick up evidence in California, something a few books ago she would never have done even though as he explained, she has always had access to the shuttle service!

All-in-all a good read - 2 thumbs up and 5 stars for being original!

This is the longest series I follow and it's still the best.

I've said it before, but it bears repeating: I want to be Eve, be married to Roarke, exchange snarky barbs with Summerset, be BFF with Mavis and have Leonardo design my wardrobe, have Peabody as my partner and be disgusted by McNab's fashion style, have Feeney as my mentor, have tea with Dr. Mira, be harassed by Trina... The list goes on and on. I just love this series!

I seem to be in the minority on my opinion of this book. I'm a huge fan of Nora Roberts and the In Death series. Huge. But I felt this installment was lacking. There was no action at all and little emotion. Maybe I'm just getting bored with the series, but I was disappointed. I judge a book by how easy it is to put it down and it took me 3 days to read it when normally I get through an In Death in less than a day.

”“Celebrity murders,” he muttered. “They’ll probably make another goddamn vid.” At Eve’s stunned, slightly horrified expression, he smiled. “You could make book on it,” he said. “Keep me updated. And don’t be late for the media conference.”
“Shit,” Eve said when he’d gone out. “Shit. He could be right.”
“Who’d play me in this one? I mean, it’s really wild, isn’t it? Somebody playing me investigating the murder of somebody who was playing me. And then there’s—”
“Don’t. You’re giving me a headache. Get those runs done.””

”How am I supposed to enjoy the vid now, when I’ll be thinking how behind the scenes I was trying to blackmail McNab into bed, and the whole time he’s in love with you? And that maybe there’s a vid of the two of you all naked and sexy and—” (Peabody)
“Stop right there before I boot.” (Eve)
“Hey! Maybe there’s a vid of fake Peabody and fake Roarke all naked and sexy. That would definitely make up for it. Maybe I can get a copy.” (Peabody)
“There’s going to be a vid of me tearing strips off your ass then using them to wallpaper my office.” (Eve)

Another winner!!!

Here's where J.D. Robb is (may I say) jumping the shark:

* First, Eve's friend Nadine -- a famed broadcaster -- publishes a nonfiction book on a case solved by Lt. Eve Dallas.
* Second, the book becomes a wildly successful bestseller.
* Third, this book, "The Icove Agenda," is then turned into a movie.
* Sigh! And after that book in the series, you never know when you'll find a character in one of the "In Death" books who gushes about how much they looooooooooved that book or movie.

Anyway, there Eve is at a glitzy party celebrating what?

Oh, just extra adulation over the "vid" on "The Icove Agenda" -- until, wouldn't you know it? There's another murder. This time, it's personal, sorta.

Because the victim is the actress who plays Peabody (Eve's wonderful sidekick) in that movie.

Fear not, though, Goodreaders. If you do read this one, it's reasonable to expect that you will find the story, and especially the ending, altogether satisfying. At least, I sure did.

Thirty-fourth in the In Death futuristic romantic suspense series revolving around Eve Dallas and Roarke...yum… This one is about the Icove case being made into a movie.

My Take
It was good. I also think of it as a bridge novel in that it carries on from Nadine having written the true crime book about the Icove case (see Origin in Death and we are in on the shenanigans behind filming the movie. We still have its world premiere coming up---hence my designation as a bridge.

Could be the kiss of death---I sure hope it ain't!---but Eve is getting mighty comfy with Roarke buying all those yummmy dresses, boots, clothes, etc. for her. It's sweet and about time even if it does take some of the edge out of their interaction. I do enjoy how they tease each other. Even her nightmares are calming down more. It was pretty funny how icked-out Eve was with seeing "herself" playing a detective, though!

Eve's investigation provides a backstage peek at the sniping, bickering, and manipulations on a movie set. There's not so much of the glamorous side in this so much as a look at the real people behind the masks with their weaknesses and true emotions. And the actors discover just how down and dirty a cop will get to dig up the truth.

And McNab pops a question...

The Story
It's a dinner party where the book's main characters meet the actors playing them for the film. It's bittersweet as some of the movie people just rub people the wrong way. One goes just a bit too far and ends up dead.

The possibilities are almost endless for this victim has made it a mission in life to hurt, humiliate, and destroy wherever possible. Even Peabody wants this actor alive again just so she can have a punch up!

The Characters
Lieutenant Eve Dallas is a kick-ass police officer in New York City in 2060. She can't be bought and she always gets her man. The bad guy always gets caught and sent to jail. The good guy, she gets to go home to. Roarke---no last name---is, in Eve's words, "an Irish gazillionaire" who gets her. He knows just what kind of "because" present to buy his wife. He knows how to soothe her through her nightmares. And she's the one woman this man wants just as he is the only one for her.

Detective Delia Peabody is her partner. She-body is from a New Ager background and makes a softer counterpart to the hard-edged Dallas. Roarke brought back a gift for her from their trip to Dallas (see New York to Dallas ) and Peabody has decided it is now her signature---you can imagine how excited that makes Dallas, LOL. Peabody's life partner is the brighter-than-life Ian McNab, an E detective and a whiz on the computer.

Nadine Furst is a TV personality who wrote a bestselling book on the Icove case; now she's doing the screenplay for the movie. She's also good friends with Dallas and Peabody. Kyung Beaverton is the latest in a long line of media liaisons with whom Eve has worked. He seems to have gotten it right as Eve lets Roarke know "he's not an asshole".

The movie people include:
The strong-willed, dominating Mason Roundtree is the director; Connie Burkette, is his peacemaking wife; Marlo Durn is playing Eve in the movie and seems to have really done her homework about Eve while the bitchy K.T. Harris is playing Peabody; the unassuming Preston Stykes is the assistant director; the sweet Matthew Zank is playing McNab; Mavis is playing herself while potty mouth Andrea Smythe is playing Doctor Mira; Julian Cross plays Roarke and never met a woman he didn't want to tup; and, Joel Steinburger is the very successful producer with the ever-obsequious Valerie Xaviar in charge of publicity.

A.A. Asner is the private detective who doesn't mind getting his hands dirty. Barbie is his dippy, but sweet secretary. Robert Willoughby is an attorney and Asner's neighbor. I suspect we may be seeing more of him. Brice Van Horn is K.T.'s brother and he couldn't be more day to her night.

There is very little of Feeney, Whitney, Dr. Mira, Dr. Morris, Summerset, Mavis, Leonardo, and Bella and almost nothing of Trina or Dallas' men.

The Cover
The cover is a bit confusing with its middle strip of diamondplate overshadowing the very busy bottom collage of fishnet, a clapboard, a length of leopard print and handcuffs while the almost two-thirds top strip is a royal blue. Somehow, I just never equated diamondplate with Hollywood…

The title is too true for it is a Celebrity in Death in this installment.

I'm glad I re-read Origin in Death before Celebrity in Death. It probably wasn't strictly necessary, but having the details fresh in my mind added on an extra layer of fun for me. Anywho, I practically stood on the front porch waiting for the UPS guy and promptly devoured the book in about two hours. Probably going to re-read parts before bed.

So what to tell you? Well, the person I thought did it didn't, Eve gets another mag coat, and there are some terrific Peabody/McNab moments. Nadine also gets some excellent screen-time. Robb also introduces a new supporting character, whom I suspect will be important later on. Oh, and there was a great little scene between Eve & Morris that I adored.

I have two quibbles, however. Firstly, you might end up thinking I have a gutter mind, but here's the situation. Wait, I'll put it behind a spoiler cut.

Secondly, Belle makes a brief cameo. Now, the book takes place in October and, according to the good people of WikiInDeath, the year is 2060. This would make Belle between 9-10 months old. Peabody reinforces this by saying she's less than a year old. I don't have kids, but should Belle really

I leave you now with two of my favorite quotes from the book. They're all out of context, so they shouldn't be too spoilery.

"Roarke could have it opened in two seconds--maybe less--and probably just with the power of his mind" (pg159).

"Eve watched her walk away on her impractical shoes, then got up to find Peabody and make sure she hadn't been eaten by squirrels" (pg328).

What happens when Dallas is in a locked room mystery? She finds the killer. Great mix of film and future.
April 16, 2020
FIRST READ: Celebrity in Death is a serial thriller that is taking time to figure out who the killer is. Eve has arranged her board and had staff and commander in to review and discuss what her thoughts are and what they need to do to nail this guy. Second read of this book. Didn't remember very much at all about it.

SECOND READ: We find out that Roarke owns this upper class bar when this horrible event happens. There were about 80+ people that were killed in In this thriller in the #1 New York Times bestselling In Death series, Lieutenant Eve Dallas must solve the murder of an actress whose final role was to die for...

Lieutenant Eve Dallas is no party girl, but she’s managing to have a reasonably good time at the celebrity-packed bash celebrating The Icove Agenda, a film based on one of her famous cases. It’s a little spooky seeing the actress playing her, who looks as though she could be her long-lost twin. Not as unsettling, though, as seeing the actress who plays Peabody—drowned in the lap pool on the roof of the director’s luxury building.

Murder, sex, and blackmail all figure in bestseller Robb’s smart, well-crafted 35th Eve Dallas novel set in mid-21st-century New York City (after 2011’s Dallas to New York). Lt. Eve Dallas feels a little uneasy attending a party at Hollywood mogul Mason Roundtree’s Park Avenue townhouse to celebrate The Icove Agenda, the movie adaptation of a high-profile murder case solved by Eve and her police cohorts. Could K.T. have fallen into the pool by accident? Or was it foul play? K.T. had plenty of enemies, including Marlo Durn, who plays Eve in the film and could pass for Eve’s sister: “I hated her. She was a sick, bitter bully.”

(Third Read) Eve’s wealthy and charming husband, Rourke, lends support while Eve and Detective Peabody pursue yet another gripping case. Agent: Amy Berkower. K.T. Harris , talented but rude made an embarrassing scene during dinner. Now she’s at the center of a crime scene—and Eve is more than ready to get out of her high heels and strap on her holster to step into the role she was born to play: cop.

This was a good read. I highly recommend!! Good stuff!!!

In this installment, there's going to be a movie about the Icove case (Origin in Death).  Eve and Peabody got invited to the movie set and met their celebrity counterparts.  That night, during dinner the celebrity counterpart of Peabody is found floating facedown in the swimming pool.  We have celebrities as suspects.  Let the media circus begin.

Eve is being her usual badass self which I love.
"If somebody doesn't call me a bitch once a day, I figure I'm not doing my job."

It has been 34 books.  Who is the nefarious Candy Thief??? I've no clue.  Zero. My curiousity is killing me.

Peabody and McNab are too cute beyond words.

"You have to know you're it for me, Peabody.  The one."

"We don't want to get married now.  That's for grown-ups."

"Oh yeah.  We'll have a big, crazy wedding.  Get married, have kids."

"When we're grown-ups."

ADORABLE 😆
