A few pages in and I already wanna climb Rome like a tree. There.
I said it.
This book gave me every one of the feels. Jay is brilliant. Rome is delicious. I adored him and Cora together. Sigh.....

I’m reading this out of order but the synopsis for the first (or second) book just didn’t catch my interest and after reading this I already feel like I got the gist of that couple.
Anyway, back to the book in question.
It wasn’t what I expected. This wasn’t angsty, emotional or I don’t know .. high-stakes?! I don’t know why I thought this series was little more of - all of the above. I mean, I do believe it tried to be all those things, I just didn’t think it succeeded. But it was a good-ish “normal” type of love story.
To be honest and irrational at the same time, I didn’t really love or like it but I did wanna keep on reading and I do wanna try reading the next book which is gonna be about Nash, although the reviews are not encouraging.
I liked Rome and I think everyone in his life should have been easier on him and his “moody” behaviour. Not like they should allow or enforce it, but telling someone with PTSD to just snap out of it because it’s getting old and you need them to return to their “old self”.. it’s not exactly kind or helpful. I also thought the whole family drama was a bit melodramatic. Valid maybe?! But melodramatic.
I didn’t really like or dislike Cora. But if I had to choose I’m inclined to say dislike wins. I do like larger than life, blunt, no-filter type of characters but meddlesome ones with a overly righteous and slight holier-than-thou attitude they don’t sit well with me. Now, I also know I’m exaggerating with that depiction. On page, she wasn’t that bad. But the problem with series that focus on a tight-knit group of friends or siblings, is that it can come off as really sweet or obnoxious because everyone has an opinion about everyone else and their dog.
Basically, this is one of those books that you can safely read because generally speaking it’s not that exciting which means there aren’t really any problematic issues. It doesn’t awake strong feelings of any kind, BUT, it is entertaining enough that you’ll keep turning that page.

4-4.5 Stars!!!
Jay Crownover’s third installment of the Marked Men series was about Rule’s older brother, Rome (aka Captain no-fun) and his friend Cora (aka Tink or Half-pint). Rome had all the steam, fun loving moments and captivating characters that drew me in with Rule.
Rome Archer is back from his final tour with the Army. He is home and he’s not been himself since he’s been back. He has issues with his family, and his time spent at war left it's mark. He’s changed. And lets be honest, he’s been quite an ass since he’s been back. Everyone in the group is trying to just let it slide for now, except Cora. This little tattooed pixie gives him a piece of her mind when he says something out of line about his brother, Rule, who happens to be one of her best friends.
Cora is spunky, feisty and a wonderful leading lady! She seems more put together than Rome, but she has her issues too. She’s been marked by her past just like Rome. She’s had her heart broken in the worst way, and now she is very cautious about giving it away. She’s not sure if she ever will. At least not until she finds ‘Mr. Perfect.’
Rome and Cora are seeing each other more often. They run with the same group so it’s bound to happen. One night, Rome is having a hard time and calls the shop for Rule to come fetch him from the Bar. Cora knows Rule is busy, so she decides to go help. From there it all begins. Cora is attracted to Rome. You would have to be blind not to be. He is all muscle, bright blue eyes, ex army alpha male. The feeling is mutual. There is something different about Cora. She is unlike any other girl Rome knows. They both want one another. In one night of passion, they give into all their desires. Cora starts to re-think her ideas of Mr. Perfect...
Rome is closed off to everyone, but there is something about Cora that can bring him out of his shell little by little. He is intrigued by her. Just hanging out with her makes his life more bright. He doesn’t want to give that up.
The two seem like opposites. Rome is a big guy. He is strong, stoic and tough. Cora is physically much smaller, has lots of ink and piercings, and is a spitfire. Despite all their difference, they have things in common. Both are loyal and protective of their friends and family, caring and they have things they are dealing with. Rome and Cora have a lot of obstacles to face. Rome has to deal with his guilt, PTSD, depression and nightmares and Cora needs to get over her fear of falling deep in love and having that person leave. They struggle. They come together. They fall apart. Healing isn’t always easy, but when the two were finally able to get it together, it was incredible.
Overall, Rome was a beautiful romance. Not only was it sexy and sweet, but it had just enough emotion and humor to make it the entire package. I was a bit disappointed by Jet’s book, so I was very excited that I loved this book! Even though Rule has been my favorite book in the Marked Men series so far (I really adore Rule), I can say with absolute certainty that Rome is my favorite Archer brother! I love these characters. I root for these couples. They really are a great group of people. Not only was it nice to read about Cora and Rome, but was wonderful to catch up with Rule, Shaw, Jet, Ayden, Nash, Rowdy, Asa and the rest of the gang. The ending left with a slight cliffhanger (though not with the couple). I’m excited that Nash gets his book next and I’m hoping it features a certain red-headed nurse ;)

THREE ARCHER STARS.
Ever since starting the marked men series, I have been waiting impatiently to get my hands on the eldest Archer brother story. something about Rome made me girly giddy to hear his story and so it goes without saying that this was a highly anticipated book for me. Overall for the most part I enjoyed this story and the moody, broody, military hunk, but sadly there were not enough five star moments to turn this book into a, 'I loved this book' from a, 'I liked it book'. Here are my 'Rome was supposed to be my favourite' book thoughts ...
What's it all about?
Fun loving and feisty, Cora Lewis may came across to the world as fearless and strong but underneath that facade is a woman who desperately desires to be loved by Mr. Perfect, she won't settle for anything less and her standards are so high she isn't convinced any man can reach them. That is until Rome Archer sweeps into her life invading her thoughts and her ever increasing attraction for his moody, angry ways. Rome Archer has left the life as a military man broken and battle weary he can't bring himself to love anything about his life let alone a tattooed fire cracker in the form of his half pint friend, Cora. But when attraction gives way to undeniable passion this pair of misfits must decide if they can make a perfect forever together.
What did I like?
Jay Crownover constructed a sympathetic and touching portrayal of the difficulties of an ex military adjusting to civilian living. I appreciated the writing and heartwarming journey that Rome and his family took to towards healing and moving forward. As usual the characters were engaging and I enjoyed as in previous books the way the characters are all involved in the storyline. I loved the heroine, Cora her sassy, witty and addictive personality really resonated with my reading tastes. I loved her strength throughout and as far as heroines go she was a true winner. Rome will always have a special place in my heart, there has always been something about him that I have been drawn too and his one liners and alpha persona was most definitely appreciated as I read this book. The connection between the two of these loveable's was adorable I loved the nick names and banter between them and was happy to see them come full circle towards end of the book. It was also lovely to see other favourite characters receive some of the lime light during the story and I was happy to see a continuation of their happily ever afters. Overall I liked this story, I didn't fall in complete lusty loving but there was enough to keep me smiling and enjoying what Jay Crownover had to offer.
Why not five?
The relationship between the two main characters had a too much, too fast feel to their relationship development, the story didn't give me reason to believe that the love was believable. I needed more tension before they got together more push and pull and connection between them. There were times that I was distracted and the storyline didn't hold my complete attention and dare I say at points in the story I was actually bored. The book certainly wasn't all bad, three stars holds a definite like ability factor that can't be ignored, the first 25% held my undivided attention and at various points the story line would give me the coveted five star moments that I was itching for. I think this time around it comes down to a case of failed expectation, I was hoping to fall hook, link and sinker for this book featuring my favourite Archer but it wasn't meant to be.
Final thoughts ...
Since reading 'Rule' this author has been on my must read radar, and I have to say that this series is still a favourite of mine, I'm excited to see where this author will take the series next and I'm looking forward to meeting more of her characters. Tattoos, piercings and men who love their women, who can resist? ... Those that haven't started this series, go and meet Rule you will not regret, those that love this series give the lovely Rome a chance, you know what they say; No two people read the same book. This may just be your next five star read. Go grab it readers ... Enjoy, kisses.

Ah, I loved this. So not what I was expecting, but in a good--no, great way. I think Rome might be my favorite out of all the guys so far.

Rome and Cora are my favorite so far. I love how the fiery pixie sees beyond the rough exterior to the man inside. Rome is so honest and straightforward that even when he messes up, you want to cuddle and protect him. Cora has had her heart broken and is afraid to love. Rome is a broken man with PSTD trying to find his place in the world beyond the military. Their story starts off with sass, attitude, and spilt beer but ends with sweet happiness for these two. They are absolutely awesome together and deal with the unexpected quite well. Sexually these two burn astronomically hot. You may need to stand by the AC/fan lol They have their bumps along the path, but compliment each other in the right ways. The plot was constructed well with great pacing. This is not the first in the series to have some pretty intense drama but I felt if did it best in my opinion. The characters are unique and dynamic. Their contrast adds to the appeal. Their development was done really well. I really enjoyed this story! ;) Safety: No OW/OM/Sharing. No condoms. No rape/abuse. Please note that the H is dealing with PSTD and Survivor's Guilt, so if these are triggers, proceed with caution and understanding.

***5 Imperfect Perfect stars from me***
Yep, it's officially... I'M AN ADDICT!!!
I just can not stop reading about these boys and girls...
Everytime that i finished one book from this series, i'm saying to myself "Now, you have to take a break and you will continue after"... but everytime i fail...
I think that it's Jay's fault. She is writing so good and every story is so great and different from the rest of them. I don't have to mention that in every epilogue she is driving me crazy and made me desperate to go for the next book!!!
I love that guys... Every single one of them is so unique and wonderfull!!! I just love them...
I think that when i finish all the books, i will have a very serious problem... :((
But enough with that, i have to talk to you about the "Big Guy" and the "Pixie"!!!
Well, Cora and Rome...
Two different persons in every aspect...
Everything started with a moody Rome in a barbeque, some serious shit that he was saying and Cora as the fiercy woman that she is, she attacked him with a beer...
Hahaha... That was pretty funny!!!
Then their cross path several times because of Rule and the others guys and maybe because of fate...
Well, Rome as all we know from the first book, was Rule's older brother. He was a marine and after the last encounter in the first book, he was angry with his folks and Shaw and all of that because they were hiding a secret that was about his dead brother.
Rome used to be the good, responsible guy... He was trying to be there for everyone that he loved. He was the protector of the twins and Shaw... He was trying to fix the relationship between his parents and Rule... And he was trying to keep Rule out of troubles.
The only thing that made for himself was to join the Army and that for an upper cause... He wanted to make the world safer for his family...
But now he is back and he is different...
He is angry with everyone, including himself. He is avoiding his parents, he is fighting all the time with Rule, he doesn't want to embrace the presence of Shaw anymore...
And plus all that he has terrible nightmares of blood and sand...
All of that are too much to handle it!!! He used to be the hero for everyone but he couldn't save Remy and the rest of his crew back then.
So now, he feels lost and he don't know what to do with his life.
He is drinking too much and he is trying to forget so hard...
In a bar he meets Brite and in a way his life is changing.
But the greatest change comes with the form of a small pixie with big mouth that she can't watch only her business.
Cora as all we know is a great friend for all the others... She is tiny, a rock and roll chick with big mouth and a big heart... She had two differents colours in her eyes that they reflected all her emotions at the same time.
She has piercings and tatoos all over her body and she seems a badass, but believe me when i'm saying that at the same time is so girly!!! She is like punk rock Tinkerbell!!! Hahaha...
She was heartbroken for a long time, because her ex fiancee cheated on her and now she is seeking for Mr. Perfect!!! Everybody keep saying to her that there's no such thing as perfect, but she insisted.
Until Rome Archer gets in her way. She is drown toward him and she can't resist him but he is so far away for Mr. Perfect!!!
She was started something with him but she refused to invest a big part of her heart to him...
Even though that he is complicating as hell, he is acting in a perfect way and that comfuses Cora.
Except that, she is determined to save him from his demons...Told ya, good and big heart.
So Cora and Rome started something that is big and it has its ups and downs.
They are trying too hard to fight their owns demons...
Will they manage to overcome all the obstacles that gets in their way???
Will they find the ultimate love in the face of each other???
Will Rome manage to fight and concrete his nightmares???
Will Cora understand that perfect sometimes means imperfection???
Well, i really enjoyed and this story... I love that guys...
They have become my daily joy and i can not stop reading about them and their lives...
That is making me a peeping Tom??? Oh, God, no!!!

Cora as all we know is a great friend for all the others... She is tiny, a rock and roll chick with big mouth and a big heart... She had two differents colours in her eyes that they reflected all her emotions at the same time.
She has piercings and tatoos all over her body and she seems a badass, but believe me when i'm saying that at the same time is so girly!!! She is like punk rock Tinkerbell!!! Hahaha...
She was heartbroken for a long time, because her ex fiancee cheated on her and now she is seeking for Mr. Perfect!!! Everybody keep saying to her that there's no such thing as perfect, but she insisted.
Until Rome Archer gets in her way. She is drown toward him and she can't resist him but he is so far away for Mr. Perfect!!!
She was started something with him but she refused to invest a big part of her heart to him...
Even though that he is complicating as hell, he is acting in a perfect way and that comfuses Cora.
Except that, she is determined to save him from his demons...Told ya, good and big heart.
So Cora and Rome started something that is big and it has its ups and downs.
They are trying too hard to fight their owns demons...
Will they manage to overcome all the obstacles that gets in their way???
Will they find the ultimate love in the face of each other???
Will Rome manage to fight and concrete his nightmares???
Will Cora understand that perfect sometimes means imperfection???
Well, i really enjoyed and this story... I love that guys...
They have become my daily joy and i can not stop reading about them and their lives...

Rome by Jay Crownover is the story of Rule's (Rule is from the first book of the Marked Men) older brother. Rome is home for good but is finding it difficult adjusting to being back from war. He feels guilt at being unable to keep all his men safe but also has not come to terms with the fact that his younger brother, who passed, kept his sexuality a secret from him. He feels like he's failed those around him.
Cora, is the feisty body modification artist at the shop. She has a no holds barred personality and is always there for her friends <-- even when her advice is not necessarily asked for. Cora has kept a tight hold on her heart after being hurt by an ex. In order to protect her heart, she has set an unrealistic idea of what a "perfect" man should be.
These two characters were perfect for one another. There was undeniable chemistry and the care taker in them both helped both characters grow throughout the story. Both characters were tough as nails but were also hauntingly fractured. I felt that Jay Crownover did a great job developing them.
I also want to add that these two are haaaawt! Although I loved Jet, I found it wasn't as steamy Rule. For all my fellow smut lovers- Jay Crownover has brought back the steam!
This was another great delivery by Jay Crownover. She is an autobuy, drop everything, somebody will get hurt if they bother me while I'm reading her books author. Reading about this group of characters is like being reunited with old friends. Waiting for her books is like anxiously waiting for my next visit home. 5 awesome stars! ♥

This third book bring us the Archer brother number two (or number one, since he’s the oldest), Rome, who recently got out of army where he saw some things so bad that still haunts him.
It also bring us Cora, the sweet pixie-chick and best-friend of basically them all.
If you read the previous books you know that although Rome is a great guy, is going through some changes and some problems in this life that make him behave, well, like an asshole. But while everyone is letting it go and giving him time, Cora doesn’t have any intention of letting his assholeness slide.
After a few encounters, some discussions and misunderstandings, they end up together because despite all, they both have an immediate attraction since the beginning.
And that’s when things get real, because not only Rome has some family problems to go through and a PTSD to deal with but Cora has her own past to deal with, and having her heart-broken one time she is careful about giving it again, so she’s looking for Mr. Perfect.
So how can they be right… if something always go wrong with them?
Rating: 4,5 Stars
Storyline: Very good. There are some elements and unexpected turns that make us hooked to the story.
Writing Style: Also pretty good. There’s some minor editing mistakes but you can overlook that. Dual POV, first person.
Character Development: Their connection is amazing. Although minor annoyances, they are extremely good together. And both of them are very well written character by their own.

In general I think Jay Crownover does a great job telling her story. I enjoy her writing overall and the characters are relatable and funny. I love the nicknames she gives people such as Captain No-Fun and Admiral Ass Hat. I did not read Jet due to my friend's opinions regarding the book's heroine. I decided to go ahead and give Rome a try though.
With that being said, I got a tad bit annoyed while reading. This book seemed pretty predictable and the actual storyline started getting on my nerves. If you know me I have started making shelves to track how many books seem to have a trend with certain things. This book fit quite a few of those areas.
You have your gray eyes trend, while this was not the main character for this book, this will I'm pretty sure be the heroine in Nash's book with her "dove-gray" eyes.
You have your running. Of course Rome gets upset and what does he do. He goes running. You know b/c six miles is cake. (I will say he probably does run a lot if he is getting that sexy vee though)
Then you have the his penis is too large.....Please tell me if you have actually ever said the words to a guy "That won't fit"
Umm hello babies come out of your puss so a dick will fit in you. It might hurt a little but it will fit and feel good.
If I was about to have sex and thought his dick was huge I would be like
Cora is supposed to be this bad ass pixie chick who works in the tattoo shop as a piercer but then she seems like an idiot. She's hung up over her ex, Jimmy, then she says that about OMG it won't fit when she has sex w Rome, then she , then she doesn't want to tell Rome she loves him, then she I mean
Of course when you have a bar in the book there needs to be some biker drama.

And lastly I will say PTSD is a serious issue affecting many war veterans so I'm glad Rome finally realized he needed help.

Jay Crownover’s done it once again! She totally mesmerized me by her amazing storytelling – Rome is poignant, compelling, knocking your socks off romance, that made me swoon, laugh and simply just have fun.
I utterly love Crownover for pulling something like that! It’s like she always has a different trick up her sleeve. Her easy, cute and incredibly romantic style of writing is freaking awesome! An I can honestly write, that she’s one of these authors that can totally write another book in series without it being a boring copy of previous novel.
I was looking forward to meeting Rule’s big brother. He sounded like a perfect hunk of a man that could make my ovaries go crazy, and hell yeah did he make them dance. Rome is an ex-soldier, and at twenty eight he retired and has a very hard time to live civil life. His quiet, broody and definitely unhappy. He suffers from PTSD and the only way he can forget about the constant guilt and blame is by drinking a bottle of vodka.
Meeting Cora, feisty, tattooed and pierced woman and his exact opposite is like being struck by a lighting. But Cora isn’t looking for a man like Rome. She needs her Mr. Perfect – stable, loving man that will give her a chance at happily ever after and a family.
The two of them were adorable together. I loved seeing their constant banter, crazy antics and off the charts sexual chemistry. They were really hot together.
Every character Crownover’s written about is so different and just perfect in his or her imperfections – Cora and Rome are fantastic example of that. She wonderfully grasped and pictured them together.
Cora and Rome are so unique and fresh, that it was really awesome to read about them. There is literally nothing in them that reminded me of Rule/Shaw, Jet/Ayden personalities, which made reading Rome a phenomenal breath of fresh air.
Overall, Rome is steamy, hilarious and extremely fascinating read, that made me think I’ve died and gone to book heaven, or fell asleep and had the best dream ever. This is a wonderful story, that can melt hearts and is created by someone who really know how to do her job. Amusing, explosive and unpredictable, Cora’s story is a must read!

Jay Crownover at her best!
I've read the previous three books in this series. And despite my initial issues with the editing (especially in Rule), I still recognized Ms. Crownover's masterful storytelling.
In Rome, she has proven once again that she can create flawed yet relatable characters. Couples that make you want to root for. Rome and Cora are no exception.
We met Rome during Rule's book and he's shown to be the good son, the all-American elder brother who keeps everyone in line. We were left with the knowledge that Rome was deployed to war and suffered a great loss while serving there.
Here, we see Rome floundering in his role or his identity. He's not quite the big brother/protector that he once was. His experience during the war cast a dark shadow over his disposition. Basically, he was a changed man. Cora, on the other hand, was a free spirit. She had her heart broken once and she doesn't want to be in that position again. And then she meets Rome.
When they met, Rome was in a bad place; physically and emotionally. And while other people were tiptoeing around him and handling him with care because of what happened to him, Cora was having none of it. She called him out more than once and Rome was hooked.
Their story wasn't as tumultuous or angsty as Rule and Shaw, but they have their own issues too especially with Cora's fear of loving and getting hurt again. Rome also needed to deal with his grief and guilt for not doing what he thinks he was supposed to do. When the two of them finally came together, it was just beautiful.
Another thing I loved about this book is we get to catch up with the previous couples from the previous books. Rule and Shaw are as strong as ever, and Jet and Ayden as well. Plus, we get a glimpse of what Nash's story might look like. It's something that the author did really well without being contrived.
Overall, Rome is another great addition to this remarkable series. On that note, on to Nash's story. I can't wait.

ROME OOO ROME
He was tall, way taller than the other guys, broad and strong and strapped muscles with short, dark hair cropped to his head
He was definitely effing hot and am also such a sucker for those military boys <3
As I was hoping to enjoy Rome more, but I couldn't, Cora kinda was annoyed me especially she went made an announcement!!
Hence, everything after that, I was skimming through....I just felt their love was more forced!!
BUT THE BEST PART, WAS TO SEE RULE AND SHAW TOGETHER AND HOW THEIR RELATIONSHIP HAS GROWN :)
RULE is definitely my favourite of all!! I so can't wait to get my hands on Rule's paperbacks!!

I loved Rome! I thought Rule was my favorite in this series, but Rome is right up there with Rule. Cora and Rome are very much opposites on the outside, but matched perfectly in their beautiful hearts and souls! I adored this couple!
Cora is the spunky little friend with a sassy mouth, who works at the tattoo shop with Rule and his boys. She’s a fiercely protective and loyal friend, but she’s been burned in the romance department making her weary of future connections. Cora is holding out for “Mr. Perfect” after being shattered by a man she thought would be her whole future. With her expectations, Shaw and Ayden worry she’ll pass up something good waiting that elusive “perfect man.”
Rome, Rule’s older brother, is back home, out of the military for good after suffering an injury that results in deaths on his team, and survivor guilt. The normal, loving and protective guy his family and friends are used to is MIA. Rome is grumpy, bad tempered and basically an asshole to all around which leads to a confrontation with Cora after he lashes out at Shaw and Rule. Rome is furious at first, but on thinking about it Cora’s spunk amazes him. He likes her straight talk and her vibrant personality. Cora seems like a handful, but one Rome may not mind taking on:
“I don’t know, Half-Pint, something tells me reining you in is probably a pretty good time.”*
Cora didn’t know Rome before he went into the service so she doesn’t know the Rome everyone talks about, therefore doesn’t have as much patience with his bad temper. She thinks he’s hot but definitely a stinker, or as she calls him “Captain-No-Fun” (made me giggle, every time).
He just emanated a sense of “take care of business” that was heady, and I shouldn’t have found it attractive, but I totally did. He was gorgeous as he was annoying.*
Still, after their blow-up, Cora has a big enough heart to give him the benefit of the doubt, and this is where she starts to see that Rome is just as gorgeous on the inside as he is on the outside. And this is where things get interesting.
These two were like total opposites physically: he was big, with not a mark on his gorgeous body and she’s little with tattoos and metal embellishments, yet, on the inside they had similar values. Both loved their family and friends fiercely and would do anything for them. I loved that these two “opposites” were so attracted to each other, while not technically being each other’s normal type they didn’t judge because of that. Instead they appreciated the beauty of each other’s individuality.
I was only human and there was something about all that plain, old-fashioned beefcake that was hard to ignore. But I was surprised that he seemed to return the sentiment. I didn’t for one think I was any more his type than he was mine.*
There were problems, like Rome dealing with the after affects of war, and Cora dealing with her fear of being hurt, but thankfully they handled things like adults for the most part. When they didn’t it wasn’t overly frustrating or drawn out. As a reader you could totally relate to their feelings even when they were in the wrong. I have to say Rome reminded me a little of some of Kristen Ashley’s alpha men. He’s definitely a no-nonsense man’s man! Yes, please!
I have so much love for Rule and Shaw’s story, the first in this series. I enjoyed Jet and Ayden’s story, but Ayden’s behavior kind of took some of the fun away. Rome was a close tie with Rule for me. It was nice catching up with these couples, Rule and Shaw in particular! It was also lovely to see Rule and Rome working things out as brothers and with the family, for which both Cora and Shaw deserve credit. I was surprised how much my feelings turned around for Ayden’s brother, Asa. He was a trouble maker and up to no good in the last book, so it was nice to see his changes. I feel a story brewing for him but I think Nash will be up next. There were a few scenes between him and a pretty nurse that have you wondering at their history. My interest is definitely piqued, and I can’t wait to find out what their story is!
I love the Marked Men series. Jay Crownover writes compelling characters that immediately sneak into your heart, and romances full of chemistry and heat! I can’t wait for the next one!

We, as a nation, have experienced the ramification of our sons and daughters, family members, and friends fighting for our country many times. There have been many books, movies, and personal stories told. Each combat experience is unique to the conflict, region fought and environment but all have the singular purpose of defending those back home and wanting to protect those we love. Our service people deserve the same understanding and devotion they so freely gave us.
However, that is not always the case… and since that can be a factor in their re-entry to civilian life… sometimes with all they now have on a continuous loop in their recesses of their minds… it can make finding their place in this world difficult.
We met in the first book, Rule-Marked Men, Rome, the older brother of the Archer family. Through the journey of Rule and Shaw, the MC’s of that book, we saw how Rome was the warrior, protector of the family, and the one that worked every conflict out between all of the family members. At the conclusion of Rule, Shaw dropped the bomb of Remy’s secret to the family only to have the parents admit they knew of it for years and let it remain hidden.
Rome, as the go-to guy for his brothers, took this as a betrayal to everything he knew of his family life and place in it. He had been confessor for Shaw… the one who worked out is his brothers’ problems and also just cared that everything should be right….
So this causes a huge rift with everyone close to him as he goes off to finish his last part of service. He continues to serve, watching his men and brothers in arms die… and just doesn’t get why he keeps getting spared… His brother Remy died in a car accident……during this last tour, all his men die in the same explosion making him the lone battered survivor….
And now he is home… lost…. And Rome is determined to never let those who loved and depended on the Rome he was, see this crushed, confused, disillusioned one.
Yet there is another warrior of sorts in this circle of friends who has decided to address the bullshit Rome is dishing out to his friends and family. This force…. This take-no- prisoners-spitfire is Cora.
Cora is something else. She comes from a very difficult upbringing with an old gruff Admiral who had decided a boy was what he was supposed to have had… and instead was left with a petite girl to raise alone. So since her dad was all straight forward no-nonsense… the apple didn’t fall far from the tree… yet there was a yearning in this hot little womanly package tatted and pierced; she had thought the escape with Jimmy her ex-fiancé was the answer to her life… she thought she had found the man and love that was it for her..but life slapped her with a hard lesson of people she trusted hiding and turning a blind eye to Jimmy’s cheating leaving her to walk in on him doing the dirty deed with a client. This shocked her world, her faith in what love looked like and what it really was…. Causing her to come up with the concept of holding out for the perfect guy…. The one who would be there for her… who didn’t need fixing or had issues… one for the long haul.
Clearly, Rome definitely did not fit that profile… no way, no how…. Except there was one little itsy bitsy problem…
You see Cora’s sexual radar went off when Rome was around… and he was equally smitten and both were a stick of dynamite just waiting to blast….. and when it did… neither one of them were prepared for the nuclear level of the connection and need. Cora was able to see Rome for who he was… all of the hurt, fear, loss, and confusion. She had the tools to help him but still knew he was everything she had decided she didn’t need.
So this what we have; two people who for some reason are good for each other without really “getting it” until confronted with reasons to be real and not hide from the realities of their now serious connection. And what was the most impressive was Rome, even through all of the demons and fears he had… was able to recognize his safe haven in Cora and express it to her. I really was impressed by that.
There were also a few other story points in this book that impressed me. Cora in her headstrong focus to rid this Archer family of their dysfunction and heal all of them decides to do an intervention and bring parties together to get the necessary closure regarding Remy and his life.
I felt this was handled in a mostly realistic way. I don’t know if everything in “real life” would have gone so smoothly….… and those with life experience touching on these matters would have a better idea … but I felt the author really tried to handle a situation which was important for all concerned in a smart way.
Another issue addressed was how we can still see people one way when they are really trying to grow and be something better… Rome had his demons to work through and so did Asa, Ayden’s brother. The parallels for them and the same for Rome with another character added depth and understanding to the story.
I felt if there was one thing that caused a little frustration for me was some of the repetition of Cora’s needs and reasons for being the way she was. I also was not completely thrilled with one of the plot points used… however; it was and ended up being a catalyst for major acceptance and change so it worked in the end.
Jay Crownover has made me love this group of characters. I am invested deeply in their well being and future. I have seen them grow as people, make serious changes in their lives, learn about life, embrace love, and be open to where it takes them. I am primed and ready to see the next chapter. Nash and “the Saint” have a heavy load to carry and I will be happy to help them through it.

Terrific Buddy Read with my pal, Mishyjo
We, as a nation, have experienced the ramification of our sons and daughters, family members, and friends fighting for our country many times. There have been many books, movies, and personal stories told. Each combat experience is unique to the conflict, region fought and environment but all have the singular purpose of defending those back home and wanting to protect those we love. Our service people deserve the same understanding and devotion they so freely gave us.
However, that is not always the case… and since that can be a factor in their re-entry to civilian life… sometimes with all they now have on a continuous loop in their recesses of their minds… it can make finding their place in this world difficult.
We met in the first book, Rule-Marked Men, Rome, the older brother of the Archer family. Through the journey of Rule and Shaw, the MC’s of that book, we saw how Rome was the warrior, protector of the family, and the one that worked every conflict out between all of the family members. At the conclusion of Rule, Shaw dropped the bomb of Remy’s secret to the family only to have the parents admit they knew of it for years and let it remain hidden.

Buddy-Read with the amazing Future-Gurl June 20th!
This is a stunning video and song, about PTSD and TBI that I recently discovered which brings goose bumps to my skin.
4 Fighting-for-your-life Stars
When I was younger I always figured that if I ever settled down with a man it would be with a firefighter or a soldier. Not because I had a uniform fetish or anything like that but because I have a very soft spot for both of these professions, professions which require a level of sacrifice and selflessness. Of placing yourself in harm’s way for the safety of others. And while I had no disillusions about how stressful and emotionally draining that would be on a partner, I always felt that the cause would be worth the difficulty, for me.
It’s funny how love can come along and gum up the works, no matter your intentions.
In this instalment of the Marked Men series, we spend time with the eldest Archer brother, Rome, a veteran who is relatively newly home from serving. And while this is definitely a romance, I felt it handled some of the difficulties of returning home from service and trying to eck out what that means and how you go from here extremely well.
“Seeing those scars, those marks that he most definitely had never asked for, I had to wonder how he felt about being permanently marked up against his will.”
It’s not often I stumble across a romance with an ex-soldier or marine and feel like the subject is handled appropriately, in fact I generally dislike them rather intensely. I liked how it was done here, a lot. I felt like Rome’s journey in this story was beautifully, heart-breakingly rendered. I dated an ex-soldier when I was younger who suffered from some pretty intense night terrors and I felt there was an appropriate level of respect to the reality of similar situations within Rome.
I also quite liked his relationship with Cora. I liked that she was the spunky, tattoo-covered, eccentric and he was the straight-laced one, I thought it was a nice change of pace. Overall, I found this romance moving and beautiful, if a bit overly dramatic for my tastes. I just really enjoy how Crownover creates characters even if her stories are a little over the top for me.

What a little slice of heaven this book is….Rome is a sex god…. and ladies….he doesn’t have a problem with love!! Well, maybe after battling the demons he has festering in his psyche. I loved Cora (aka Tink) and her “no holds barred” personality, especially for being such a little pixie.
This was another great story in the lives of “The Marked Men” and not only is this a story of finding love but it’s also a story of “self-discovery”. Both Rome and Cora will venture outside the safety of their protective walls to trust and try to experience life without their life-jackets. They take the plunge into each other along with the support and love of their family and friends.
Cora
We have met Cora in the previous books since she is the “body piercer” at the shop. She is tiny but she is a bull who takes no crap from anyone. She is everyone’s surrogate “mother” who is always there to give advice, listen or help to any of the guys or her girlfriends. Cora may help everyone else but she doesn’t take advice from the others when they tell her that she is on a useless mission by waiting for “Mr. Perfect”, but Cora won’t listen because her past was too painful with the lying cheating bastard (aka her ex). Cora refuses to settle for an imperfect guy because she is just too scared of the past repeating itself.
Once Cora gets wind of Rome and instant dislike bubbles in her stomach and she nicknames him “Captain No-Fun” because of his surly attitude. The more time Cora spends with Rome though, the more she sees inside his battered mind and heart…plus being the motherly figure she is….you know Cora just has to step in there to ease his pain. Since I can’t give any spoilers away, I’m gonna keep this short and just say that Cora has a TON of soul searching to do and she has to battle a few obstacles thrown her way before she realizes that Rome is her “imperfect perfect”.
Rome
Wow…he has so many demons to battle before he can live a normal life. Not only does Rome have to deal with PTSD from serving in the war but he also has to fight his anger and guilt over losing his brother, Remy. Rome has always been the father figure with the group and now that he is wounded with PTSD, he feels like a total failure. Rule and Rome are constantly going at it because of Rome’s surly attitude and drinking binges, but it isn’t until Rome gets knocked on his ass by this little Tink….(or half-pint) that he realizes it’s time to clean up his act.
There is also a guardian angel looking over Rome in the form of a bar-owner who takes Rome under his wing and helps him heal, one soldier to another. Through hard work and therapy, Rome realizes that he actually did have something to come home to. He is needed and he is loved and not a worthless soldier drowning his sorrows in alcohol. But don’t get me wrong, Rome has many obstacles to hurdle over through the book and it may even take the ultimate sacrifice to get Cora to understand how serious about the future.

By the end of the story – the next book in the series is already being set up with Nash and a mysterious angel from the group’s past. Read on to find out more about Nash and his love future. Will the boy finally settle down with one woman?

3.5--Good But Not Great--Stars!!
I liked Rome, I did...but I just didn't love it. It wasn't WOWING. It wasn't anything new. It was predictable. It was a little cheesy.
Things I liked about Rome:
(1) Cora wasn't annoying....or at least not as annoying as another certain someone....anyone remember Ayden?!?!
(2) It didn't take the whole book for Rome and Cora to get together!
(3) There wasn't a lot of dumb drama--cheating, etc.
(4) The sex was pretty hot.
Things I didn't like about Rome:
(1) It had one of my book pet peeves.
(2) The storyline was a predictable in parts. Jimmy, Phil and Brite...yeah
(3) Sons of Sorrow
I will say, Rome was definitely better than Jet for me. I like that we get more from Rule and Shaw as well as the rest of the gang. I am a fan of the series as a whole and will read the rest of the books.
Looking forward to Nash and Saint's story....there is definitely something fishy going on there.

***3.25 Stars***
First and foremost, my apologies for what is going to be a rambling review. Unfortunately this one didn't completely work for me. I liked it, but didn't love it and found myself repeatedly annoyed by Cora and her unrealistic expectations.
Having to listen to her ramble on and on about finding Mr. Perfect, having a perfect relationship and having someone be "all in" with her gave me a headache. If I had to hear the word "perfect" one more time....
I liked her when she was dealing with anyone else, but when it came to her own personal life she had her head up her ass.
Also, I didn't understand the melodramatic overreaction to the demise of her relationship with Jimmy?? She was so young when their relationship ended over his cheating, and I had a hard time empathizing with her feeling of not being capable of ever truly loving again (EVER. Jimmy killed something inside of her. DEAD. Not coming back. No way). That's a bit much there. I mean her maturity level was shown when she admitted to daily Facebook stalking.....five years later. And then when he comes to apologize....she chews his head off and socks him in the gut.
So suffice to say, not a big Cora fan.
Rome on the other hand was great. His internal battle with returning from war and not recognizing the world around him anymore was understandable. All he's known is taking care of his family and being a soldier. Now, he's out of the army and his family is able to take care of themselves and slowly mending, without him. He was out of his element and completely lost. He'd lost his purpose.
"I got used to everyone needing me, to them relying on me, and now that I wasn't needed anymore I simply didn't know what to do with myself. That honestly terrified me more than any war zone or bar brawl..."
Cora gave him a safe place to share his feelings, unload his burden and vent his frustrations. She didn't judge him, she pushed him when needed and held his hand while he found his footing.
"I'm fighting with my folks. I'm fighting with Rule. I'm fighting my vices. I'm fighting my fear of the future. I'm fighting my own goddamn head, and I'm just tired. I'm retired. I was suppose to be leaving all the fighting in the desert."
My heart broke for this lost man. I can't even begin to imagine how hard the struggle must be. Rome had a fantastic support system around him that proved to be there every step of the way. And seeing Rule be the sage and levelheaded Archer was a great shift in dynamic.
In all honesty, I was more invested in Rome the man, than Rome the romance hero. I just didn't fully get the connection between him and Cora. Maybe I shouldn't have read this after Rule, since his and Shaw's love had history....but I just wasn't as invested.
And the cliche twist that came a little over half way thru had me rolling my eyes. Completely unnecessary.....though definitely not as unnecessary as throwing some motorcycle club action in there. What was that?
I did like that there was finally some closure regarding Remy. I will give Cora her due props for handling that situation quite well. It was a risk, but it definitely paid off. However .
And on a final grumble of things....if you're going to give me an epilogue, please make it about the couple I'm reading about, not setting me up for the next book. Please and thank you.
Overall, a middle of the road read that I liked but didn't love.

Servicemen have a very special place in my heart. I have a very close friend who is in the Army and several of my family members are in or have been in the Air Force. So I had pretty high expectations going into this, and with my not so stellar track record with Ms. Crownover, I was a little worried.
But I didn't need to be. This was wonderful.
Rome is a stellar leading man. Bruised and battered, he's been broken by the things he has seen and done in his time at the front lines of battle. And that is where this book excels - the way in which Rome struggles to regain some semblance of a normal life after seeing so much death and destruction, is so vivid and detailed that I felt like I was living the struggle with him. And it broke my heart a little bit.
Cora was lovely. She's a straight shooter who knows what she wants and has no qualms in telling you what she really thinks. So imagine the trouble she gets in when she steps into the tornado of roiling emotions that Rome is carting with him everywhere. They were such a complimentary couple, they just worked so well together, it was really enjoyable to watch their love story unfold, even if Cora had a really hard time actually fessing up to her feelings.
As always in a Crownover novel, the drama-llama is hard at play in the second half of this. But you know what, this time around I'm allowing it. There is also a generous amount of cheese on top of all this, but I ate it right up, because I fucking love cheese.
This is the book I have been waiting for in this series, and I can't wait to read the rest of the boys stories.

Rome is goin through a lot he as just come out of the army he still isn't talkin to his parents after them hiding things from him an the relationship between him an his bro Rule is still very explosive cause of Rules relationship with Shaw so it's a lot to take in but everyone is getting annoyed with his pissed off attitude an Cora just could take it anymore she does know him as much as the rest of them but his attitude was so annoying so she throw beer over his head an give him a piece of her
Cora is lookin for her Mr Right she's been lookin for him since her Ex Jimmy totally shattered her heart it's not easy to trust someone after what he did to her but after what happened she grow stronger an wouldn't let anyone get to close she luvd the guys at Marked Men they were al like family so they protected her an she looked after them an would put them in there place when it was needed she didn't like it when people would start crap with the people she luvd so Rome was goin to b a problem she never could hold her tongue when it was needed so she had no choice but to give to Rome even if he is so big an sexy she's not his type an he's not hers but she could helpin getting lost in his eyes even if there was so much sadness in them
Things between these 2 got really hot really quick once they had each other once they couldn't stop even if Cora tried to stop it the sex was to good they were just goin to c how things worked out an just go with the flow but with Rome dealing with his head bein al over the place it was goin to b hard when things were good they were amazing together but when they bad Rome turned to his bestie a bottle of vodka an just hid himself away Cora could deal with this she had already dealt with a broken heart an the feels she had for Rome were a lot stronger than her ex's so she knew she had to hold on to her heart a lot tighter
The Archer bro's r just amazing I luvd Rome the thinks he was dealing with were hard but some of the things could of been sorted if he wasn't so stubborn an boy r these boys stubborn but I luvd how Cora helped him so would do things that could of made things so bad but she alway made them work even if it did take them people out of there comfort zone she was so caring an helped Rome so much u would probably never put these to together she is so small covered in ink an he is so big to her but they fit so well I just luv them together there is a lot drama throughout this book an some of it had me a lil scared an angry but other part had me melting on how sweet these to could b when the personalities were quite strong

3,5. Aunque no me acabe de convencer la forma de escribir de la autora, para mí esta serie mejora con cada libro. La pareja que forman Cora y Rome me ha encantado, por lo poco que parecen pegar en un principio y lo mucho que se complementan al final. El personaje de Rome es maravilloso, un héroe acostumbrado a hacerse siempre cargo de todo y que no puede arreglarse a si mismo tras volver de Afganistán, un personaje roto y con claro oscuros que acaba viendo cómo el amor lo puede/cura todo.

Well well well, I like Rome. I have a softie for a military romance. And Rome is a perfect fit. He is broody, mysterious, strong and so alpha male. An alpha male with a big giant soft heart.
I do love how his encountered with Cora developed into much more. A surprise pregnancy seals the deal between Cora and Rome.
Cora is tough to swallow but I get her at the end. She is such a big mama bear. A perfect match for Rome's giant mussy big bear heart. Both of them are so protective.
Overall what a wonderful read.

The good: Decent plot and story line. Loved the sizzling chemistry between the two main characters in and out of the bedroom! Their characterizations were very catchy, honest, and real.
I now wish Cora was my bestie! <3 She was so fiery and feisty and I loved every minute of it!
The bad: If anything, it was the pacing. The beginning started off fairly slow but by 20 percent in I finally got into the flow of the book.
The characters:
Rome: tall, broad shouldered, short, dark hair cropped close to his head, azure eyes; has scars on his body from his service in the military.
Cora: very small and petite; has short, spiky blond hair and eyes are two different colors (turquoise and hazel brown); also has tattoos and piercings.
My thoughts:
I really liked “Rome.” Maybe not as much as I had loved “Rule” but it definitely held its own. The two main characters, Rome and Cora, are portrayed to be tough as nails on the outside but fragile as glass on the inside. It was amazing at how alike yet how different they were.
Cora was like a rock for Rome. She held him in place and helped him get his act together. Rome, on the other hand, was not the same man he was when he left and returned home. He feels broken, scarred, disconnected, and out of place from this world that he grew up in. Rome struggles with “civilian” life but with the aid of Cora, he learns to pick up the pieces while rediscovering himself and re-connecting with those around him.
“I just wanted to bury my head in the sand and go back to a point in time that felt comfortable and familiar. I hated feeling like a visitor in my own life, and no matter what I told myself when I woke up in the morning each day, I couldn’t shake feeling like everything I had come back to after my contract with the army was up was a life that belonged to someone else. My family didn’t feel right. The new dynamic in my relationship with Rule didn’t feel right. Trying to get used to Shaw being taken care of by my wayward and reckless little brother didn’t feel right. Crashing with Nash while I tried to get my shit straight didn’t feel right. Not having a job lined up or any clear direction of how to support myself doing something other than fighting a war quite possibly felt the most wrong out of it all.”
I’m not saying that Cora doesn't exude any vulnerability like Rome because she does and also gets called out on it from time to time. I just appreciated that even with personal issues aside(as in a cheating ex-fiancée!), that she doesn't wallow in her own self-misery but still carries hope for a better future. After all, she knows what she wants and will tell things like it is!
ex. 1: - “That’s too much for one person to try and carry around all the time, Rome. You can’t be responsible for everyone or feel guilty all the time for being one of lucky ones.”
ex. 2: - “That’s not what I mean. You’re not happy and you’re not even trying to get there. Jeez, Rome we have more military in this state than we do normal people. Go get help, go find someone to talk to. Let someone save you for once. I know your brother and the other people that love you would appreciate it.”
My verdict :
A great addition to the “Marked Men” series!! I recommend if you liked “Rule”’s story since Rome is his older brother. I can’t say that I’d ever suggest Jet’s story, which is the second installment in the series, but I do recommend “Rome”’s to all of you who have been waiting for it.
I see that Nash’s story is up next and I couldn’t be more excited. It seems that he’s going to be paired off with that nurse (whom we later find out is named “Saint”) that was in charge of Rome in the hospital. Apparently, they have history together. I wonder how that’s going to pan out?!
