April 2019 Aw, poor Tawnypelt... I can relate to her so much in this book. Change is hard, but necessary. I loved that we got to see what's become of the Tribe-- I'm glad that they're still the Tribe despite the Clan's efforts to change them, what... three arcs ago? I'm also burning with curiosity about Shadowkit/paw...

June/July 2023 Tawnypelt's such a good girl. I love how her relationship with Dovewing develops.

Ok so why did Shadowkit get a vision for the Tribe? The Tribe has its own afterlife and healer to get visions from! It's so unnecessary, and it makes the Tribe look inferior and dependant on the Clans.

Also this book portrayed seizures very badly. If someone is having a seizure, DO NOT PIN THEM DOWN!!! It's incredibly unsafe for you and them. I'm disappointed but not surprised, Warrior cats.

I did like Tawnypelt and Dovewing bonding in this book though, it was really sweet and a highlight. I love how Tawnypelt comes to respect and relate to Dovewing. Also Shadowkit is absolutely adorable and I loved him

As for Tawnypelt's internal conflict I just didn't really care lmao

Na początku Gołębia mnie taktycznie irytowała, ale na szczęście nie trwało to długo. Wszystko wynagrodził Shadowkit, którego coraz bardziej uwielbiam

Premise: With her son the new leader of the new ShadowClan, Tawnypelt has been appointed as Clan deputy. But from the start, the older she-cat can see that ShadowClan is changing, and not necessarily for the better. For the younger cats, she represents a time in their history that they're eager to forget. Then one day, her chance to prove herself comes when her grandson has a startling vision. Tawnypelt is determined to help him discover its meaning. And yet, even if she can, will it cost the deputy something she believes she can never let go of?

Story/Writing: Considering this is part of a novella collection I bought months ago, and that I'm reading this series in chronological order, I had to wait a pretty long time before I got to this last one. And I am more than happy to say it was worth the wait! The only knowledge I had of it was that it was about the events that led to Tawnypelt stepping down as ShadowClan's deputy. By the time I came to it, I was bracing myself for something uncomfortable, given she was pretty much the only cat who supported her mate, whom the rest of the Clan scorned as a weak leader who failed to stop Darktail. But once I finished the story itself, I was more than happy with what I got! The reasons for her stepping down made sense, and didn't come about because her life was being threatened or anything. It felt very much like the story of a character who's so wise and experienced yet reluctant to give up the way things have been done for such a long time. I felt equally torn between wanting the ShadowClan before Darktail to be remembered and wanting them to move on from his reign of terror that very nearly made them go extinct. But I was really happy it turned ended as well as it possibly could have.

Characters: While this story can be read fine enough on its own, this is definitely a case where knowing the characters from previous titles makes the story all the more emotionally impactful. There was a real core of feels in this story, in my opinion, that really got me invested in it. Both older and younger characters contribute strongly to the narrative, and I wouldn't have it any other way!

Tawnypelt – Long one of my favorite ShadowClan cats, this is probably the best that Tawnypelt has ever been. She's gone through and experienced so much in her life – joining another Clan, being driven out by that Clan she'd given so many moons of love and service to, then losing her mate and two of her three kits – and you really feel for her and her struggle here. She feels like she's gotten older and having such a hard time forgiving her Clan and her own son for going against her mate, however misguided he was. But in the end, no matter what, she will always love her Clan. Kind of like how a mother will always love her children no matter what. That said, were it not for her stubbornness and fierce love for the new kin she has, she wouldn't have led the quest to get Shadowkit to the Tribe, and they could've gone extinct forever. At the same time, it really tugged at my heart-strings to read about her considering living in the Tribe forever. Probably my favorite scene is when Rowanclaw comes to her in a dream and says she shouldn't fear change for the Clan they both love so much. And even though she does step down as deputy, it felt wise and that she made the right choice. May Tawnypelt know the peace she deserves for the rest of her moons!

Dovewing, Shadowkit, and Stoneteller – One of the best features of this novella is the relationship between Tawnypelt and Dovewing, which of course very much resembles a mother and her daughter-in-law, respectively. There's tension between the two of them at first (as there often is), but once they become united in their mutual love for Shadowkit, they learn so much about the other and grow from one another as well. It was really heartwarming to see them come to understand and love the other. Speaking of Shadowkit, what a precocious young tom he is! It doesn't surprise me that he wants to be a medicine cat. He already has a lot to live up to considering his lineage. But I know he'll be a great, passionate, and determined apprentice to Puddleshine! If nothing else, the connection he and Crag Where Eagles Nest – the Stoneteller appointed by Jayfeather – must be some kind of foreshadowing. And moving onto Crag, Jayfeather could not have chosen a better cat to be the next Stoneteller after the death of his predecessor in "Sign of the Moon." He's a confident healer-leader of his Tribe and full of faith in their ancestors! It was so inspiring to see him lead the Tribe so well!

Various Other Characters – Speaking of Stoneteller, I was utterly filled with joy to find out that the Tribe of Rushing Water was being featured! I didn't think they'd be featured in the series again! At least, not any time soon! It was great to see them doing so well, particularly Stormfur and Brook and their kits! It was also pleasantly surprising to see them being so welcoming toward Tawnypelt, Dovewing, and Shadowkit, given the last time Clan cats visited the Tribe sort of ended on a sour note (to say the least). Speaking of which, I'm glad that it seems ShadowClan seems to finally be getting back on their feet again. It was touching (if a little odd, given the initial tension between Tawnypelt and her Clan) to see them welcome the three travelers home at the end. Not to mention Tigerstar II is already proving to be the best leader they've had in seasons. Ironic given he has the exact same name as his notorious grandfather!

Overall: Having come to this novella with a good deal of curiosity, I was thrilled that I was satisfied in such a heartwarming and meaningful way! I hope Tawnypelt finally gets the rest and peace she's earned and that her influence does last in some way in the new ShadowClan!

This novella is fairly solid, in my opinion, although not too extraordinary. I like the cast of characters, specifically seeing Tawnypelt bond with Dovewing and remark upon old cats she was close to (Flametail, Rowanclaw, Dawnpelt, etc). It was nice to be reminded of who's related to one another, and I appreciated the acknowledgement of Tawnypelt's age and the theme of times and Clans changing.

(SPOILERS AHEAD) However, the plot didn't capture my interest too much. It was nice that it advanced the characters' personal journeys, but the action itself didn't make perfect sense to me. How exactly would a tree falling down a waterfall have killed the cats in the cave behind it? And if it was so big and deadly, then how did a single bolt of lightning destroy it completely? Nevertheless, I am satisfied with this story, even if it doesn't rank among my favorite novellas.

A good book.
It's nice to see things from Tawnypelt's perspective. It's sad to see what this cat has gone through... Her son drowned under ice, her daughter was killed by Darktail and her lover was brutally murdered in front of her eyes.
Shadowclan has made her suffer so much, first when her father became leader, second when Sol tricked Blackstar, third when her clan decided to go against Rowanstar and yet here she is, showing her loyalty to her clan.

I understand her doubts and the need to leave Clan territory. I would feel like a complete stranger among these cats. I hate how Tawny has to just accept her fate and "adjust" to the new shadowclan... I recently finished the 5th book of the 6th Arc so I have no idea how good Tigerstar is as a leader but I would have loved seeing Tawnypelt become a leader and build her clan the way she wanted to.

Tawnypelt! Finally! Truly wonderful to have a journey with her. She's been such an amazing character since the very first arc, making the tough decision to leave Thunderclan for good. The story was only made better as she was joined by Dovewing, undoubtedly one of my favorites, and having this beautiful in-law journey together.

The only thing that really cuts off a star is the tired old plot of going to the Tribes and fixing their shit for them while learning a life lesson or two. Moonkitty said it best: "If they ever return to the tribes again it'll be too soon." Other than that, good stuff.

Nah. No. DNF. Boring af and I hate the Tribe. This is not what I wanted from a Tawnypelt novella. I want to know what life was like for her when she joined ShadowClan when her father was ruling it, not whatever this is. Tawnypelt deserves a better franchise.

Also DO NOT hold down someone when they’re having a seizure! It’s absolutely deplorable that the Erins are promoting that crap. Literally ever reputable source out there tells you to NOT hold down someone who is having a seizure. Very dangerous thing to teach your young audience. Shameful.

Tawnypelt's Clan: 4 stars

I read this novella so I could officially say I'd read all the Tawnypelt content out there before The Elder's Quest releases. ;)

Honestly, I really enjoyed it! Tawnypelt is a great character, and I never would have expected to read a book about her and Dovewing and Shawdowkit going to save the tribe (again), but here we are! I thought it was good. It was also interesting to see what exciting expectations Shadowsight had when he was young. I wonder, did even these visions come from Ashfur? If he could never talk to StarClan at all...? Hmm.

This book really bored me, I dreaded reading it, the only part that caught my eye was Shadowkit. I love seeing where he had to travel to the tribe as a kit. I loved Tawnypelt as a kid and loved to see her grow towards the end of the book.

I didn't really like this because I don't really care about ShadowClan but when they went to the Tribe I liked seeing Stormfur and his family.

Great but a bit weird, I didn’t expect that story. But I love Tawnypelt so it was good to read about her.
