Si bien tengo que reconocer que después de los primeros capítulos la serie no me gustó decidí darle una nueva oportunidad y me terminé encariñando con la historia y con el autor. Hoy les traigo mi reseña del segundo libro del autor norteamericano. Aquí Martin empieza a dibujar lo que sería su estilo personal con una novela un poco diferente a Canción de Hielo y Fuego, en lugar de caballeros y un mundo medieval tendremos una historia un poco diferente.
Esta novela empieza en el sur de Estados Unidos en el año 1857, aquí estamos a pocos años del inicio de la Guerra Civil Norteamericana. Se que es una forma rara de empezar la reseña pero creo que esto no es un punto menor. En este libro se vive tocando el racismo y cómo los blancos luchaban por mantener sus privilegios sobre los negros esclavos. Esta elección no es caprichosa porque de la misma forma que los blancos se imponían sobre los negros los vampiros harán lo mismo con los humanos. Creo que este es un punto de vista interesante que se repite a lo largo y ancho de toda la novela.
Nuestra historia empieza con Abner Marsh. Marsh es un hombre feo y pobre pero con una habilidad sorprendente para manejar vapores por el Río Misisipi. Es por esto que es contactado por Joshua York un atractivo magnate de Nueva York que le hace una oferta irresistible. York quiere construir el barco más lujoso, rápido y conocido del mundo. El problema es que si bien York tiene el dinero para hacerlo todo barco necesita un capitán y la persona ideal para este trabajo es Marsh. Es aquí que los dos hombres se embarcan en una aventura de negocios y un nuevo proyecto económico.
Tras unos meses de trabajo nace una hermosa embarcación con dos ruedas de paletas. York decide llamarla El Sueño del Fevre, si bien a Marsh no le gusta este nombre porque lo asocia con la fiebre acepta y se encarga de trabajar para que el barco sea conocido a lo largo y ancho del río. Estos primeros capítulos son sumamente interesantes porque si bien aún no se empieza a hablar de vampiros si se habla mucho del negocio del barco y como los dos socios buscan trabajar juntos para que su proyecto salga a flote.
Iris Miller es una chica que vive con un pie en el mundo real y otro en el mundo sobrenatural. Iris es una persona que hace muchos años puede ver a diferentes tipos de fantasmas. Al verlos su cuerpo empieza a reaccionar haciendo que se sienta muy incómoda e incluso se desmaye. Eso hizo que la familia Miller tuviera que mudarse varias veces de su hogar y que Iris se convirtiera en una aislada social. Hasta el momento su única amiga era una joven vestida de blanco y de cabellos negros. Como se imaginaran ella es un fantasma lo que hace que Iris no tenga amigos de carne y hueso.
Los primeros capítulos del libro avanzan como uno esperaría que avancen. Iris va a un nuevo colegio donde siente una ansiedad social enorme por culpa de sus problemas con el otro mundo. Además tiene que enfrentarse a ser “la nueva” en un pequeño pueblo donde todo el mundo se conoce. Todo eso hace que en muy pocas páginas tengan que enfrentar mucho bullying y termina volviéndose amiga de “la chica rara”. Una de las cosas que amo de cómo escribe la autora es su capacidad de mezclar estos momentos de “vida en el colegio” con la parte más sobrenatural de la historia. Iris es una chica de secundaria y tiene que enfrentar todos los problemas de bullying normales pero también deben lidiar con los aspectos que son únicos por su situación de medium.
La vida de Iris se empieza a acomodar con las nuevas clases, el nuevo pueblo y el bullying brutal que sufre por parte de Sophie y su grupete de amigas. Es en estos momentos que la chica empieza a tener visiones de una mancha negra que hace desaparecer a los fantasmas que ella conocía. Es este el momento donde empieza la verdadera historia y como todas las pequeñas pistas que Audrey nos fue soltando a lo largo de los capítulos anteriores se unen. No voy a meterme en detalles de esta parte de la historia para no arruinarles la lectura pero creo que es aquí donde las cosas se empiezan a poner más y más interesantes.

Esta es la primer novela de la montaña interminable (o de la torre) que escribió este hombre. Esto es importante porque si están acostumbrados a las novelas más nuevas de King les va a sonar raro leer Carrie.
Esta historia es simple y sin ninguna sorpresa, por más que al final se revelan algunas cosas desde el principio de la historia ya sabemos como va a terminar y como lo que en un principio puede parecer divertido y alegre termina convirtiéndose en una pesadilla.
Lo que a mi me encantó de esta novela es que está escrita en dos tiempos, por un lado vemos la historia de Carrie y de sus poderes. Por el otro podemos ver las consecuencias de lo que aparece en la novela.
Sobre los personajes no hay mucho que decir, Carrie es una de esas personas que lamentablemente nacen en la familia equivocada y eso les trae una cantidad de problemas en su vida. Teniendo una madre super religiosa (al punto que ve a su propia hija como fruto del pecado) no es sorpresa que la pobre Carrie haya tenido que sufrir bulling intenso durante toda su vida.
Como no quiero hacer spoilers voy a cortar el review por acá. La historia es super simple, pero es buena y efectiva, es de esos libros que cuando los agarras no te dejan ir hasta que los terminas. Si andan esperando una historia de terror no creo que les guste Carrie porque no es terror, pero si buscan un drama con elementos sobrenaturales este libro es para ustedes.
Sin duda el peor final de saga que leí en mi vida. La historia intenta ser interesante pero no lo logra enganchar.
Primero la reacción de Eric es patética, si tanto la quería a Sookie hubiera dicho algo y no quedarse en silencio haciendole caso a su creador como un pelotudo.
Segundo, En este libro Sam se vuelve un dios sexual y una persona genial, algo que pasa mágicamente de un libro para el otro.
La útlima critica es que me parece muy exagerado que justo en este momento todos los enemigos de los libros anteriores se junten para matar a Sookie.
Si este fuera el primer libro de la saga quizás recomendaría que le den otra oportunidad, pero a esta altura solo leanlo para terminar la saga, este es mal libro. Parece que Charlaine Harris lo escribió sin ganas....more

Para empezar vuelven los problemas con los cambiantes, después empieza todo el problema con la política vampirica y para terminar Eric cambia de personalidad mágicamente y se vuelve un imbecil. Para mi es uno de los peores libros de la saga, pero si llegaron hasta aquí no les cuesta nada terminarla.

Este libro es uno de esos libros mediocres con los que termina la saga, no es malo pero tampoco es divertido.
Por un lado empieza a conocerse mucho más de la familia feerica de Sookie, lo que es triste es tener muchas escenas mostrando a los tios y primos de Sookie caminando desnudos por la casa para reforzar la idea de que la cultura de las hadas es diferente de la nuestra.
Lo interesante de este libro es que empiezan a haber ataques de odio contra los cambiantes, por alguna razón el salir al mundo no les salió tan bien como a los vampiros.
No voy a darle más vueltas, el libro no es bueno, lo más divertido de este libro es que vuelve Elivsperdón Bubba :D...more
Este libro es bastante interesante porque se conoce un poco más de la vida de los vampiros con los que interactua Sookie. Creo que es muy interesante ver como se sale un poco del rol protagonico y deja a alguien más bajo el reflector.
Bill
Bill es uno de los personajes que conocemos un poco más en este libro. Bill queda muy dañado por la batalla con las hadas en el libro anterior y Sookie trata de curarlo, el problema es que para hace eso necesita la sangre de un familiar y si bien sabe que Bill tiene una hermana vampiresa en algún lado, primero hay que localizarla y pedirle su ayuda.
Sobre la historia de Bill descubrimos que su creadora (Lorena) lo convierte porque le gustó fisicamente. El problema es que las relaciones vampiricas no duran mucho y preocupada por Bill decidió conseguirle una "amiguita", la cual es bastante parecida a su esposa (en vida). Es aquí que conocemos a Judith, quien se puede nombrar como la hermana de Bill.
Eric
Eric es un personaje que hace mucho en este libro, podemos ver como se lleva casi el titulo de protagonista, ya que hace muchisimas cosas interesantes.
Por un lado engaña a Sookie y logra prometerse con ella (mediante un engaño pero en fin se prometerse), además logra una posición fuerte en la política vampirica ya que está empezando a hacerle frente a los otros vampiros del área 5. De todas formas esto no está del todo arreglado y es algo que quiero ver en otros libros.
Lo más interesante de Eric es que su creador (Ocella) llega con el hermano chiquito de Eric (Alexei Romanov) la versión vampirica de los hijos del sar de Rusia, el único sobreviviente de esa familia y un niño con una sed de sangre imparable.
Creo que esta es la parte más interesante del libro, ya que se matan varios pajaros de un tiro, se conocen los orígenes de Eric, se conoce a su creador, y se pone un "malo" que sería nada más ni nada menos que Alexei.
Sookie
Sobre lo que le pasa a Sookie no hay mucho que decir, por un lado se ve involucrada muy fuertemente con Eric, y si bien este no la deja participar mucho en lo referente a su creador y a su hermano, ella se las ingenia para conocer todo y a la vez ayudar a sus amigos (Bill con su enfermedad, y a Sam con el odio de la gente del pueblo, quienes no aceptan del todo a los cambiantes).
Sookie además cuida a su sobrino Hunter y vive con su primo Claude, lo que hace uno de los capítulos más divertidos e interesantes del libro. Por un lado mostrando un lado más humano de Claude y por el otro mostrando la divertida interacción entre Sookie y Hunter, quienes al ser telepatas los dos tienen más cosas en común que cualquier tio y sobrino.
Otro aspecto importante del libro es la manada de Shreveport, quienes encuentran a un hombre lobo muerto en los terrenos de Sookie, lo cual desenlaza en una discusión política y en la justicia de los hombres lobo (cosa que es demasiado sanguinaria para Sookie y prefiere no ver).
Por ultimo hay una especie de explicación de las intenciones de Dermont, el abuelo de Sookie parece no estar loco, sino que controlado por alguien con grandes poderes, si bien no se aclara mucho de esto creo que en los próximos libros si va a ser el tema más interesante que se toque.
Por último decir que es un libro muy completo y divertido, pero que por momentos no me terminó de enganchar, de todas formas es un muy buen libro de Sookie y lo recomiendo a todos los que les gusten estos personajes....more

Nuestro protagonista se llama Ralph y es una persona que tiene serios problemas para dormir, a lo largo del libro estos problemas se van acrecentando pero como él pierde la capacidad de dormir empieza a ganar otras como una percepción de las cosas que las personas normales no pueden ver.
Este libro trata de temas muy delicados y hay que tenerlo en cuenta, ya que las personas sensibles se pueden sentir ofendidas por algunos de estos temas, desde la vejez, la inminencia de la muerte y temas polémicos como el aborto (posicionando personajes a favor y en contra).
La historia en si trata sobre el mundo que Ralph empieza a conocer a medida que va perdiendo su capacidad para dormir, la lucha que empieza a tener con los "doctores calvos y bajitos", unos seres que pueden cortar el hilo de la vida de las personas y matarlas. Además de como Ralph empieza a asimilar el mundo con el que empieza a tener contacto.
Esto es una lectura previa obligada para el que quiera empezar a leer La Torre Oscura ya que tiene mucha conexión, este es uno de esos libros que recomiendo sin dudarlo, si les gustan las aventuras sobrenaturales y quieren leer algo desde un punto de vista de una persona mayor, no duden en leer esto que vale muchísimo la pena....more
En este libro cambia la situación sentimental de Sookie, ya que desde el principio Quinn la invita a una cita y las cosas empiezan a ir bastante bien pero al salir del tatro son atacados por unos hombres lobo recién mordios. En este momento no está claro quien es el objetivo del ataque, pero la resolución quedará en suspenso porque Sookie no se queda mucho más tiempo en Luisiana.
A la mañana siguiente Sookie parte para Nueva Orleans, porque su prima (que resulta ser una vampireza) murió, en este caso no solo por ser su única familia viva, sino porque era la amante de la Reina vampirica y las cosas se empiezan a mezclar con la realeza.
Este libro además incluye un nuevo personaje, Amelia, una bruja joven e inexperta pero que supera su falta de experiencia con emoción y ganas, además rápidamente se volverá un personaje central en la saga de Sookie por lo que no será lo único que veamos de ella.
Por último este libro tiene una gran revelación final y muchas escenas de sexo interesantes. Este libro es de los mejores de Sookie y si lo leen no se van a arrepentir. Por cierto, si tenían dudas sobre la tapa del libro, eso es una escena. Me acuerdo que cuando lo leí me empecé a reír porque no esperaba ver a Sookie cabalgando en un tigre (en el sentido literal)....more
Muerto para el Mundo es en mi opinión la mejor novela de la saga hasta el momento, en este libro se centra mucho más en Sookie, además que el reparto de los seres sobrenaturales aumenta exponencialmente, en este libro ya hay brujas y hadas.
El mayor problema de este libro es un grupo de brujas con el que empiezan a tener problemas, para empezar, las mismas empiezan a hacer magia atacando a los vampiros. Ellas no solo son brujas, sino que son consumidoras de sangre de vampiros y buscan controlar a los seres de doble naturaleza de la zona.
Por si lo estaban preguntando, al final del libro tenemos una batalla campal de seres sobrenaturales, la cual no tiene ningún desperidico. Sin duda uno de los mejores libros de toda la saga con una de las mejores escenas de acción.
El libro es divertido y gracioso, lo más interesante es que este libro reúne todos los personajes sobrenaturales que alguna vez tuvieron importancia en el mundo de Sookie.
La conclusión de este review es que si leyeron el 3ero y están en duda si seguir leyendo o no, LEANLO que no se van a arrepentir....more
