There's just one major plot point, Athena dies, and June steals her work. The rest of it is just a lot of info on how social media works for authors, and how their profession is so miserable and lonely. Additionally, some of the scenes in this book just didn't make sense to me. Like June is somehow portraying herself to be Chinese, and when she goes to this Chinese club meeting, the people there actually confuse her to BE Chinese? I mean, could they really not tell she doesn't look Asian? The finale was kind of cool, but it was kind of ruined because the ending just dragged on and one.
I didn't get the point of this book, if there was supposed to be one. Is it that writers should stick to writing about their own race? Because that doesn't make sense to me.
I didn't find it as sharp or cutting as described on the cover, but some parts of it are amusing.
What I liked : - The characters are interesting and real, including a transgender character which I felt was very well done. - Some un3.8 out of 4 stars

What I didn't like : - I felt the writing was way, way too verbose. In many instances, it took away from the scene. I feel someone needs to abridge this book -Many scenes and dialogue were too young-adult for me. Some interactions between Roma and Juliette felt straight out of Bridgerton, in an annoying way. Even the scene where the two rival gangs decided to meet felt more like a kindergarten fight. But I didn't deduct a star for that since I didn't know this was a YA book before picking it up, so that's on me - Some plot points didn't even make sense.
This definitely wasn't a fast read, at least for me, and by the middle I was getting antsy for the story to move on. But I would recommend if you like slow burn stories.
