Founded in 2015 by John Forbes, the company is headquartered in Dallas, Texas. Centerbase was founded by John Forbes, a software entrepreneur.[3] The platform's development was influenced by input from law firms and insights from Forbes' daughter, who was attending law school at the time. The company introduced its first product at the 2017 ABA TECHSHOW, a platform integrating key law firm operations into one system.[4][5]

In 2021, Centerbase acquired Family Law Software, a provider of tools for divorce and financial planning calculations.[6][7][8] The same year, the company also received growth equity funding from Mainsail Partners, a private equity firm.[9][10][11][12]

In 2022, Centerbase acquired Legalfit, a marketing platform offering website design and SEO services for law firms.[13][14][3]

Centerbase's core product is a cloud-based platform that integrates functions such as timekeeping, billing, matter management, accounting, and customer relationship management.[2] Key feature include the Automated Time Capture tool, which tracks activities in applications like Microsoft Word and Outlook, logging them as billable events for review to improve time tracking efficiency.[15]

In 2023, the company introduced a profitability reporting feature that allows law firms to analyze financial metrics, such as revenue, expenses, and billable hours.[16][5] The following year, Centerbase integrated a document management system using Microsoft SharePoint technology, which includes document version control, optical character recognition, and e-signatures capabilities.[17]
