Iris er ættkvísl um 260–300,[1][2] tegunda blómstrandi plantna með skrautlegum blómum. Nafnið kemur úr grísku orðinu yfir regnboga, sem er einnig nafnið á Grísku gyðju regnbogans , Íris. Sumir höfundar telja að nafnið vísi til fjölda blómlita í ættkvíslinni.[3] Auk þess að vera fræðiheitið, er íris almennt heiti yfir allar tegundir ættkvíslarinnar auk nokkurra náskyldra ættkvísla. Hún er vinsælt garðblóm.
