Workshop on “Randomized controlled trials”, 28th October 2024
The Research Division conducted a “Basic Workshop on Randomized Controlled Trials” on 28th October 2024 at NTTC Hall-1, 4th Floor, JAC Building, JIPMER. The workshop featured distinguished resource persons, including:

- Dr. Prasanth Ganesan, Professor, Medical Oncology, JIPMER

- Dr. Sandhiya Selvarajan, Additional Professor and Head, Clinical Pharmacology, JIPMER
- Dr. Vikas Menon, Professor, Psychiatry, JIPMER
The workshop had 29 participants and aimed to provide a comprehensive orientation on the fundamentals and various types of Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs). The sessions covered key topics such as framing hypotheses and research objectives, sample size calculation, and the principles and methods of randomization and masking. The workshop also covered data analysis methods for RCTs, ethical and regulatory considerations, and highlighted common pitfalls in conducting RCTs. To enhance participant engagement and learning, integrated, interactive group task sessions were conducted at the end of both the forenoon and afternoon sessions. These tasks provided hands-on experience and facilitated practical understanding of the concepts discussed.
This session offered valuable insights and practical knowledge for researchers to design and execute robust clinical trials effectively.
Workshop on “Graphics for Publication”, 18th September 2024
The Division of Research, JIPMER, successfully organized a Workshop on “Graphical Presentation” on 18th September 2024 at the Multipurpose Hall, JISPH Building, JIPMER. The event saw enthusiastic participation from 33 registered attendees. The workshop was coordinated by Dr. Nishad Plakkal, Associate Dean (Research), and aimed to enhance participants' skills in creating impactful and visually engaging presentations. The session emphasized the effective use of graphs, charts, and visual tools to convey complex ideas and data with clarity. This interactive session provided attendees with hands-on experience and practical tips to elevate their presentation skills, ensuring their communication is both professional and engaging.
Fundamentals of using Redcap for Research”, 7th August 2024
The Division of Research, JIPMER, conducted a “Workshop of the Fundamentals of using Redcap for Research” on 7 th Aug 2024 at the E Learning Center, II Floor, JAC Building. This workshop focused on the junior faculty (Assistant and Assoc Professors) in JIPMER, Puducherry. The objective was to enable the faculty to understand the basics of creation of proformas in redcap and use it in their research projects. Ten faculty participated in the workshop. Good Clinical Practices Workshop, March 1, 2024
National workshop on Good Clinical Practices (GCP) was conducted on 01.03.2024, at JISPH auditorium by Dept. of Clinical Pharmacology and Pharmacology in collaboration with division of Research. Members of ethics and scientific committees, faculty, undergraduates, postgraduates, Ph.D. scholars and clinical site coordinators participated in this workshop.
Manuscript Writing Workshop for Nursing Faculty, January 12th 2024
The Division of Research, JIPMER, conducted a Manuscript Writing Workshop on January 12th 2024 at the Multipurpose Hall in JISPH Building, JIPMER. This workshop focused on the faculty in the College of Nursing, JIPMER. This was a ‘hands-on’ workshop where participants would develop a draft paper (based on the work done in JIPMER), and the resource faculty would have one-to-one interactions to fine-tune the manuscript and make it ready for journal submission. The objective was to enhance the capability of nursing faculty in preparing high-quality manuscripts and increase the publication output from JIPMER. The workshop also aimed to bridge the gap between completed research and publications.
Fifteen faculty participated in the workshop. Dr MJ Kumari, Professor, College of Nursing and Dr Prasanth Ganesan, Associate Dean Research were the coordinators of this program. Participants were encouraged to complete and submit the manuscripts to a journal within four weeks. Dr Thappa distributed the certificates and urged the participants to take the messages from the workshop to increase their publication output.
Manuscript writing workshop, October 30th, 2023
A Manuscript Writing Workshop was conducted by the Division of Research, JIPMER on October 20th 2023 at the Multipurpose Hall, in JISPH Building, JIPMER. This was planned as a ‘hands-on’ workshop where participants would come with a manuscript plan (based on the work done in JIPMER), and the resource faculty would have one-to-one interactions to fine tune the paper and make it ready for submission to a journal. The overall objective was to enhance the capability of junior faculty and resident doctors in preparing high-quality manuscripts and also to increase the publication output from JIPMER. The workshop also aimed to reduce the gap between completed research and publications. Thirteen participants registered for the workshop. Participants were encouraged to complete the manuscripts within two weeks of the workshop and many submissions were completed within the timeline.
Human Bioethics, 8th September, 2023
The National Workshop on Human Bioethics was organized by the Department of Clinical Pharmacology, JIPMER Puducherry in association with Department of Pharmacology and Division of Research, on 08.09.2023. A total of 63 delegates attended the workshop from various states from India. The participants included were clinicians & non clinical departments, staff nurse and students with background of allied medical science or basic medical life sciences
Workshop on “Data Analysis Using STATA”, September 5-6, 2023
Dr. Nishad Plakkal and Dr. Palanivel were the coordinators for the workshop. Over two days, the sessions gave participants hands-on experience in using STATA for cleaning, manipulating and analyzing data. The topics covered included STATA descriptive statistics, inferential statistics, data labeling, generating new variables from existing variables, commonly used statistical tests, and generating graphs. Regression models and diagnostic tests done in STATA were discussed.

SFACTS training, 09th August, 2023
The Division of Research organised an orientation and training session on the SFACTS – Project Management Software for use by the Administrative Staff, Principal Investigators and Project Staff fraternity. Training on various modules on SFACTS like Grant, Payables, and Payroll was provided to the admin staff by the resource persons. Queries and doubts raised by the staff were addressed in the session regarding issues and compliance requirements. Discussions were made in various topics including raising Advance, Purchase Order, accounting for TDS on GST for Vendor Bills, GFR rules, Login Credentials for various users, taxation for project staff salary, arrears processing, Chart of Accounts, Interest Calculation, Backup of data etc.
Ph.D. Research Capacity building program, August 2023
This was conducted for Ph.D. Scholars of JIPMER of 2023 batch for a period of three months from August to September 2023. The program aimed at building the key research skills of the scholars in grant seeking, planning, conduct and publishing of their upcoming research work. The program consisted of five research related modules such as research methods, biostatistics, ethics, good clinical and laboratory practices, and grant writing. Each module had approximately 12-16 sessions and the emphasis was placed on equal representation of interactive sessions, online learning, assignments and self-reading in each module.
Second JIPMER Advanced Course in Research Methodology (JACRM), August 2023
This program is jointly organised by Department of Medical Education and Research Division. Around 20 faculty have registered for this course which was launched in August 2023. This includes three phases - Internal modules spanning across various topics like Research Methodology, Biostatistics, Ethics, Scientific writing, adult learning and teaching and Critical thinking, creativity and soft skills and External modules.
